Music 100%. Being neurodivergent I just can’t handle the quietness that generally comes with reading so music on low is perfect to catch my attention just enough to bounce me back to my book without completely distracting myself with other thoughts or my phone ect.
This is me right now. My downfall is TH-cam Shorts. I normally don't have this problem (much). But atm I'm just super tired, so my brain can't really do a lot right now. Including making decisions and reading. So am trying to just accept it 😊
I don't stress out if my brain doesn't have the energy for reading and want to watch anime or something like that instead, byt I do struggle with scrolling in my phone. Two things that helps me are 1) a timer for social media (which is an option in my phone) 2) using an app such as forest to block my phone for a little while so I don't fall to temptations.
This resonates. That damned phone is right there while I'm reading in case something important requires my attention (it never does). Leaving it in another room and on silent is the best solution.
Yes totally agree. It's a huge distraction and if you're reading for even a couple of hours it's highly unlikely that anything will need your attention really.
I'm not reading paper books very much because it's harder now that my brain's been rewired by the internet. I can do audio books though and I "read" a lot of them.
Hehe thanks! Yep it's absolutely me! I turned my app blocker off Instagram the other day, forgot to turn it back on and didn't realize I spent an hour straight watching reels!
Great Video and advice! I actually put my phone in ultra battery energy (only messages, calls and librera reader on the black screen). Or letting the phone in another division, with sound. To not worry to much if im losing someting i put a timer or read more 10 pages and then i check if i have a message
I used to do that! When you're reading from it though, hopefully you're not distracted? I upgraded to a kindle after a while. Mostly so I could read at night without the screen glare.
What helps you to stay focused while reading?
rain and fireplace sounds, I somewhat programmed my brain that the minute I turn it on, IT'S READING TIME.
@@iihdel7741 I do that with lofi for work. Works a charm so a great idea to do something similar for reading. So smart!
I love Read With Me videos to stay focused. They’ve usually got peaceful audio and it’s almost like having a friend to hold me accountable!
@@paige1404 oh gosh that's so true! I need to try reading to those some time

Yeah I totally get that. Any kind of short form content is easy to get sucked into, especially if you're tired.

Those are great suggestions!

Audiobooks are absolutely reading so I think that's a great idea. I read them while I'm out for a walk, or doing chores.
I love the intro, I was like "stop scrolling, start reading!" haha that's so me - TikTok has got me good these days

That's a great idea! There's absolutely a bit of anxiety around missing something important. At least for me
My problem is...My phone IS my book..Since its an ebook
