The Odd One Amongst Odd Ones | Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Review

- Alright so I reviewed Final Fantasy XIII a while ago, hate the game, love the game! than we got to Final Fantasy XIII-2 which is okay and then we have Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII?! I guess the title Final Fantasy XIII-3 was too much to ask? Welp there is always that odd one out in the family and as the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is the odd one out in the Final Fantasy series it sounds about right that even the odd one out series as its own odd one out.
For those who haven’t watched my review of the previous two Final Fantasy XIII games, I love Final Fantasy XIII. Yes it’s weird, odd and while I prefer older instalments of the series Final Fantasy XIII will always have a special place in my heart… and no that is not because Lightning is my number one waifu!
Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a place as well but it does not hold any weight compare to its previous instalment. But then there is Final Fantasy XIII-3 which has been awhile since I played it but I always struggle to give a place. It’s the reason why I waited so long to play and review it after my completion of Final Fantasy XIII-2. But now the time has come, I have played it and now I am going it a place and review it.

I know this game can be rough around the edges, but once combat clicked for me, i loved it. It was so fun, exploring became a blast, etc. I can totally understand peoples frustrations because it really is a hard game to learn. But I loved it!
Out of all the female protags in the FF series I like Lightning the most. I wish she actually came back in a new series some kind of way. A JRPG role model for sure for me lol
heck yeah! I at some point hoped she would appear in Kingdom Hearts thou that chance was so slim... and considering KH moved more and more away from Final Fantasy we probably will never see her again :(
This was a well narrated and put together video. Personally I don't really like the writing of this game. While I am of the (seemingly) few who really likes FF 13, the sequel and this threequel(?) was not amazing to me. good ideas, but rushed and felt forced.
It feels like someone whose favorite game of all time was Majoras Mask was given a third of the time needed to flesh out a game a shot at directing this.
@sphions thank you very much! Yeah sadly FFXIII is a bit left out in the FF fanbase and while I understand its still a shame.
that is very well put! Thou just like Majoras mask it has some heart to it... be it rushed/forced :/
Man, lightning Returns felt like one of those direct to video sequels of really popular movies. You know, like Aladin 2, Lion King 2 etc.
I was never as harsh on The first one in the trilogy as others, though I still like the second the most. But the third one... blergh. I disliked everything about the mood, the ps2-style low-poly npcs, the endless text bubbles, the bland environment designs. It all felt so thoroughly unepic once you actually get to play.

To a degree I understand the harshness as it was breaking the mold very brutally and it is very rough to play it at first. But ones you get it than things become very interesting! but I'm afraid many people didnt get to that point...
