The 80's were a magical time... Especially to be a kid... The music really took on a specific sound that just embodies the decade so well... I miss it. If we only knew what was coming... Ugh
Ohhhh, Jason. I couldn't agree with your comment more. The words just aren't there to describe the magnificence of the 1980s. Especially the music, the movies, even TV, it was just absolutely magical. And as you said, we had no idea. We just didn't know the gift we have been given as kids, that childhood was sooooo good.
Only kids enjoyed the 80's commercial crock...thank god grunge and raves came in the 90's..
That sound made people wanted to treat other people better.

This is one of those songs that I totally forgot about and then heard it again within the last half year and was reminded just how good it is. Such an 80's song too.
While in the store Bed ,Bath, and Beyond , they played this on their sound system. I had totally forgotten about it. I forgot the title. I got home, when to TH-cam and just entered "promise" on a guess and gave a big yell..."YES ! Immediately put it in my favorite. And come back to it every few weeks.
Weddings, grocery and drug stores, Napoleon Dynamite and, now, Tik Tok keep this 80’s staple alive. And it’s such a recognizable intro to the original MTV generation. ✌🏽

Great 80s song. I was in France when this song came out, and they used to blast this song at metro stations in Paris. Such a good vibe, this one.
1988 had some great tunes. Didn't know this came out in 88? So did another banger that year Taylor Dayne's " Tell it to my Heart"... loved that one too.
Awesome song. It touches me every time I hear it. Life is very short and getting harder to find that special person. When you find that special person to pour all yourself into, it's worth more its weight in gold.

This reminds me of working at record stores back in the day in 1988-91. It almost had a "new wave" sound, despite being late-1980s.

This reminds me so much of a GREAT time in the 1980s (this and many other songs). Is it the music, or good times and good friends that it reminds me of that makes it such a good era of music? Warm, fuzzy feelings.
I'm generally not a fan of techno-pop, but I always liked this song because of the incredible vocal arrangement. And I loved "Napoleon Dynamite"! Now I have a craving for some delicious bass.

This has always been one of my favorite songs every since it came out when I was a kid. Great reaction. I love watching the young react to my generation’s music. If the 80s did one thing right, it was the music. I was astounded to learn that it’s now considered classic rock. Nooo! Classic rock is what my mom listened to.

It's literally the best of both fast and slow, tempo is fast but the vocals are melodic and slow alot of the song. Unique. This is one of many reasons it's still being played and loved by all ages to this day

Back in the 80s-This was mine and my boyfriend's song. Then, we got engaged. And it was still OUR song. We were so cool and at the time, it was a cool song. For years, we were like, "Yeah, our song is/was The Promise." Then, we got married, and we still proudly proclaimed The Promise as our song. And everyone was always like, "Awwww, how cuuuute!!" And then, Napoleon Dynamite. Thanks, Napoleon. You killed a great thing.
