I believe you can respond to the life gain aspect of the diamond valley ability but not the creature being sacrificed. This is because the sacrifice of the creature is part of the cost
That's my understanding as well. Oracle wording makes it pretty clear that it's part of the activation: ⤵, Sacrifice a creature: You gain life equal to the sacrificed creature’s toughness.
What a great match. I'm really surprised that Wilco didn't pull out the win on game 1, and game 2 just goes to show how much a Juzam can hurt an opponent, even when it isn't yours lol.
A deck builder at heart, love looking over the lists in detail before I watch. That first deck, full power 9, and I get the black vise / wheel idea. But I might still want the Mind Twist - still so powerful as an option to lock down a board advantage. Plus leaves them wondering which way to jump / wrecks their remaining hand if they've reduced it due to vices. And no Twist in the 2nd list either. Interesting. Question - do all of these people run the real power 9 and duals? How do they all play these $50,000 decks casually...
@@TimmytheSorcerer Thanks! I was starting to feel like I was way off base LOL. Yeah it's not in the other decks either. That's actually crazy, Mind Twist banned while full "power 9" allowed. Do you agree Mind Twist might have been in the "power 9" if it hadn't been in Revised?
@TimmytheSorcerer at 27:00 he actually kinda has to regenerate there since if he passes priority and Gideon does so aswell without choosing to sac. juggernaut to valley the creatures trade without Wilco having another opportunity to regenerate the troll.
What about when he psionic blasts the angel and the other player responds by eating the angel with the diamond valley, wouldn't that mean the psionic blast fizzles and doesn't do the two damage to caster?
No. The damage being dealt to the caster is not contingent upon the damage to the creature. When Psionic Blast resolves it does whatever it still can do, which is damage to the caster.
It's hilarious that 30 years later the removal has barely changed, even in formats like Legacy. The removal from the very beginning was like a 10/10, and the average creatures were like a 3/10, kind of hilarious.
I don't know how lax the tournament is, but I don't think Wilco should have been able to take back that Braingeyser in the 1st game. He dropped the card and tapped lands. Had he started tapping lands but not dropped the Braingeyser yet, then untapped the lands, that would be a different scenario.
I always root against the player who spends too much time tapping and untapping thinking and changing his mind, not counting life totals correctly, not removing exiled creatures from the game, etc. Ah, sweet justice.

Correct. Sacrifice can’t be prevented in any situation just like you can’t prevent someone from putting mana into pool.

Thanks for the great voice-over Timmy!
Second live tournament win indeed ❤❤.
Greatfull as ever to be part of this great community
🙌
Great games in completely opposite ways.
I think an A,B,U + Legends event would be interesting.
I would've gone for the risk and braingeyser to the opponent. With two vises, giving 7 cards means upkeep will be 6 damage.
He had diamond valley to save himself if he didn’t hit a bolt

🍻
He should have just Orbed the Juzam itself then untapped and disintegrated the Angel while still at 1 life.

I believe Mind Twist was banned at this event.

That first game was pretty intense. Use the disk!

The Unlimited Fireball irks me lol Dude’s rockin Alpha/Beta Power, Duals, and Bolts…but has an Unlimited Fireball.
MTG just released Bird Wizard Zombie Clerics that morph into Cat Dragons, then use Exhaust fumes to turn all your creatures into 6/6 Ooze monsters.
😂

@deeterful but isn't it the case that it doesn't resolve because it's target has been removed?
25:36 Gideon does it not take damage from the rack?
2 racks. looks like he still had it tho. they should ban control magic. this made a good resemblence that diamond valley would still be good.
Those aren’t Racks, they’re Vises.
You mean the vise? He was so close to win it!
Psy blast doesn’t resolve if the target is removed.
I need more Juzam Djinns in my life. The count is currently sitting at 0. 😮💨
I’m in the same boat 😭
I said "blow the disk" about 30 times in round 1. 😂
😂

True, they did do a slightly better job with creatures in arn, but the sets immediately after went back to making inferior creatures 😖
Good morning big brother

It’s up to the opponent 🤷♂️
