It feels like everything just gets taken to an extreme… we went from beauty rooms full of stuff to getting rid of/throwing everything away. There for sure can be a balance 😬 and it doesn’t have to be a trend.
Well, behind a possible trend, there is surely a reality: the occident countries are facing some huge economics problems. Who can now afford to spend hundreds of dollars/euros in makeup or skincare while groceries are costing an arm and a lung ? Especially if there are already cupboards full of it.Choices have to be made... i choose to pay my bills and feed my children and finish up all my bronzers and foundations, simple as that!!!
I am already stressed about bills, what to feed the kids. So To relax I go play with my makeup. But there are so many products that I do not want to throw out. It will take me years to finish myself. Now everyone around me is just being realistic. No more wastful spending. Your whole statement is spot on. @celinesand
I actually think your content is aligned with the underconsumption trend. I see you being critical of expensive products that don't hit the mark, I see you do swatch comparisons and see you do ranking videos where you compare releases. I have major buyers remorse when I buy a beauty product and it goes into a drawer after a few weeks because it wasn't quite right, but I also get a lot of joy from discovering a great product that is fun to incorporate into my routine and makes me feel prettier. I feel like your channel helps me make better choices, so while you've totally influenced me to buy certain things, more often than not you've saved me money and shown me I already have a certain shade. I think it'd be great to see more of the classic products that are your ride or dies. Maybe you could incorporate older products into things like a bronzer roundup, to show how all the new releases compare to the best of what's already out there. And I still do see videos like 'top 3 in every category' or 'all time favourites' videos perform well too. So perhaps that's something to consider!
Three points from a 55-year-old lady .1 I have a larger makeup collection than my friends so things that I’m buying now have to be the best of the best. .2 I have a little bit more money now that my children have left the roost so I want to buy some nice things for me. .3 I love to shop my stash videos. It makes me so excited when I see things in influences drawers that I have. I think I was on the right track. I spent my money well , thank you for your videos. Have a great day.
55-year old too! I agree, and I will admit I do have a little too much stuff. For me, videos of people using the things they already have instead of getting new os best. I do have those massive PR hauls, and never watch videos like that.
I love make-up and trying new formulas. But, I do feel terribly guilty when I am buying products when I have perfectly comparable ones already. For a few months now, I have been much more mindful of my purchases, so I was happy to see this video. I am committing myself to USING what I already have and replace when necessary. I will still try a couple of new formulas, but will be much more selective, and will wait to get them for my birthday or as holiday gifts. I will continue to watch videos of the new stuff, but will challenge myself to find what I already have that would kind of give me the same look :) And honestly, I do love the videos that feature classics that continue to give us a great experience.
Couldn’t agree more!!! I do have to express frustration at the limited edition/limited quantities that don’t allow for a wait period to purchase products before they sell out .. :(.
I have been in the same boat for the last 3-4 months. To be honest, having 7 open foundations, 12 blushes, 52 lipsticks, and 5 concealers does not bring me joy anymore. I will stick to buying the foundation I love the most, but only after I've finished what I currently have/give them away when I want to try something new. I am 36 now and am starting to be more mindful, not only because of the money but because I am starting not to feel the need to try everything and keep up with all the new releases.
Once upon a time, there was actually a time, way before social media, online shopping and the internet, where we didn’t have massive closets, beauty rooms, or huge collections of anything. Clothes were actually good quality, they lasted and lasted, they got mended, sent to the tailor, etc… Shoes were actually leather! Makeup was quality too, and my stash did fit in a small acrylic container! I don’t like what has happened to us: fast fashion, fast anything, and sorry, but influencers. I am guilty of over spending and I am making a conscious effort of cutting down. Keeping only my better clothes, what looks best on me, and the makeup that looks best on me too. Underconsumption? I’d rather calling it curation. I won’t buy any more fast fashion, look for real leather shoes and purses and will only buy luxury or high end makeup, less of everything, but better quality. I want to go back to that time.
I absolutely loved this video, Sofia. I agree, I don’t think using what you have is a trend, I feel it is what most of us did (at least me) prior to social media. My makeup collection grew exponentially starting around 2015-ish when I began watching WAY too many beauty YT videos and now realize a lot of those people just wanted viewers to buy affiliated makeup as they NEVER had any negative thing to say about any product. Over the last couple of years, I’ve decluttered a lot of makeup and still had more than a “regular” consumer…at least amongst my family and friends. I still love makeup and skincare, but definitely am more selective of what I buy now.
Sofia, you are not only gorgeous. You are so smart and communicate with supreme finesse. I freaking love you!!!! Thank you for content. Reviews and discussions ❤
Sofia - some of us, particularly your older demographic, are going to watch you because your personality brings light to our day. Great makeup info whether it is new or old, but your loyal viewers will watch you whether you are talking about makeup, purses, or dare I say cats! (A quick hug to Minnie and Luka!) In fairness, though, you do the best eyeshadow of anybody. I am currently in awe of your organizational skills, and am glad the minimalist trend didn’t hit your sunglasses collection we were able to peek at behind you. (lol)
Sustainable living. Very pleased with the whole refill movement. We want lux packaging that we can keep and drop in a refill. Stop the throw away packages. Luxury brands are now catering to HENRY, high earners not rich yet. We need good reviews now bc if prices are sky high, Tom Ford, we need to know if it is worth the price. Also what is their profit margin? How do they treat their employees? What special ingredients are they using? Is the product sustainable? Does the company care about all their clients?
I have backed way off from purchasing makeup… just not as excited about it as I once was. Very much into taking care of my skin and health these days. I still have a lot of stuff.. *luxury makeup* it should last me for the rest of my life!!😂❤. PS- that TF eye look is gorgeous on you!!!
Thank you, Sofia for this video. I think consumers are watching the economy, looking at the housing market with home prices dropping in many major cities, friends in IT/Finance/insurance getting laid off in massive RIFs, and we are hitting the pause button in overconsumption. We’re reevaluating that what we have right now is more than fine and we need to take a breath to enjoy what we have. There is nothing wrong with that. I watch Shop my Stash videos all the time. They always remind me of a forgotten love that needs to be revisited. Thank you! ❤️😍🙌🏽👏🏽
A more curated collection, is what I'm trying to pair down to. Being that I'm in my sixty's, I now have more knowledge of what works for me,and what I enjoy. Love luxury!
One aspect I find frustrating about some videos nowadays is that people want to compare products of year X to other products from year X, and not what came before. I want to know if the product is really good EVEN compared to something that came in the previous years. My two cents to the discussion. Thank you for the video.
I personally would love shop my stash videos mixed in with new makeup videos. I think it creates more of a balance and it makes it more fun to use some of our older products and still purchase a few new really good quality items. I love these commentary videos as well. You have a lot of really interesting content.
Great video, Sofia! As always, quality content. I like seeing you use products you’ve had for a while, too, with your commentary on luxury news and trends.
Totally agree with everything you said. And I really appreciate that’s what your channel is about, helping us navigate through all the luxury options so that we can figure out what is best for us and not overconsume. I love your passion for quality and beauty, and you’re always honest if you genuinely love or don’t love a product. And if you ever decide to do more “shop my stash” - I would totally watch them! I like hearing about classic reliable makeup, doesn’t always have to be the latest. But do what you feel is best, we’ll watch 😊 On a side note, I love that taupe colour baby blade brow pencil on you, the tone and shade is perfect! What do you think of the VBB eyebrow gel, does it have a pretty good hold through the day?
really loved this style of chatty video sofia! Would love to see you discuss any other similar thoughts you have on beauty/consumption/social media trends in the future!
The thing that I find frustrating is that nobody really talks about the excessive waste that both over- and under-consumption are creating. Throwing a bunch of things in the bin and becoming a minimalist does not really solve the bigger problem. Garbage doesn't get vaporized in some magical place on Earth, it accumulates and it will result in shifts on this planet that will hugely affect our species. I would like to hear more about how people deal with this excess, how companies are trying to become more sustainable, how are we going to deal with pollution created by plastic....I think that would be a good trend, conscious underconsuming.
Hermès hooked me with the refillable limited edition lipstick cases, but I'd love to know the bronzer refill size to skip the plastic case (with the blush refill glue situation, that packaging decision seems too counteractive to the sustainability claim) and use the vintage mother of pearl brass compacts I started collecting instead. I actually started looking for those on resale to use up my decade old powders I wasn't using because of their bad plastic packaging. Refilling a Revlon balm stain into a vintage lipstick case also had me see how tiny the bullet is for the more than double sized plastic pencil it came in.
I like watching new product reviews so I can experience them without having to buy them myself. So in that way I watch a lot of videos but am "undercomsuming" (aka being a regular person who uses up a product before buying another one).
Really enjoyed this video! I like the idea of this trend because if that prompts thoughtful consumption, that's not a bad thing, in my opinion. I know for myself that I've drifted into higher priced but higher quality and less frequent purchases .
I enjoy these commentary videos a lot and I feel like nobody does them quite like you do. I enjoy the market and financial discussions in relation to trends in beauty and fashion. I find it fascinating! Also I would absolutely watch a shop my stash video. I actually enjoy declutter videos because I enjoy seeing what really stands the test of time. Also, I am absolutely recreating this look with honeymoon and desert orchid tomorrow. I still don’t own peau de peche but I’ve seen 2 people mention it today. Must be so good to have people talking about it so much after all this time:)
Five years ago, I needed to go on a no buy and stumbled across TH-camr Hannah Louise Poston who built her channel on fewer, nicer things. I adopted her way of thinking and pretty much don’t own any drugstore makeup, but do my research and buy only what I know will work for me. I found your channel researching RMS blushes, but continue to watch your channel, not for Chanel or Hermes products, but for your lovely personality and honesty in reviewing. You don’t need to review new products for me to continue watching. Would love to see more Get Ready with Me, Shop My Stash, and even Empties videos.
Hi! As european we don’t over buy like americans. My daughter came back from Seattle for less than a week. She said there is really too much to buy, too big quantities. So doing choices was difficult: it was easier not to buy. She offered us presents that she choose mindfully and with all her love… everything was great. A part of her heart is still in the us but she is happy to be back at home ( and we are happy too😊)
Your reasons are spot on. Had more money to spend on beauty as we had extra cash to spend during lock down. I personally now feel like i have enough. And no new release is making me feel that excited. I am much pickier. Also, now started to travel again or do other things, so less money for beauty. In addition, life has gotten so much more expensive. If i am spending $90 on 1 makeup, it is better to be good.
So well said. I enjoy living vicariously through you on some of your purchases, it may not be because of the price but my lifestyle doesn’t warrant it. I thoroughly enjoy your channel and point of view.
As someone who’s been on a low buy for 10 years I refuse to go crazy buying a thousand items. My bff works in beauty magazine and the amount of PR people get is crazy. I’m sorry, I’m not paying big bucks for so many random “influencers” to get it for free. Was lucky enough to go to some perfume launches, I’m a nobody (beauty world wise). Just feel realllly annoyed about pr marketing tactic. That being said, everybody should do whatever they want.
I absolutely love this video. Ive cut back on purchases recently. Im more selective of what i buy and want to see more tutorials with what you already have. Great talk Sofia!!! You're the best!❤❤❤❤
Sofia, this is my first comment on your channel (actually, I think my first comment on youtube). I like your content, especially the one with information about selling rate, or trending philosophy or something like that. I love luxury makeup, but for me, this passion can satisfy with seeing other people using them (most of the time). So thanx, and keep it the way that you enjoy ❤ sorry if i have mistakes, english is my third language.
There should be a balance. I’ve been a longtime ‘kind of’ minimalist and professional organizer. I like to have options but not things that I probably won’t ever use. It does take time to understand yourself and what you will use. People don’t realize that when you swing back and forth between these extremes you will end up getting more. People can declutter things too fast and have regrets, so they go out and replace items they shouldn’t have decluttered in the first place. And, why does everything need to be considered a trend?? People have been using up their products since the beginning of time.
I think Prada nailed it as a more recent entry into the makeup market… their shadow palettes are smart as they are neutrals for the basics, but also a pop of color when you want something unique… but more importantly their formulas are immaculate. Luxury that hits all the marks. And yet all the creators I follow did one video on those and moved on, I would absolutely have watched a video where those are revisited or a shop-my-stash including those. But probably there is nothing in that for creators! As consumers we have to be smart, and sometimes it is hard.
I always appreciate how thoughtful and intelligent your commentary is. I really appreciate you. And this is why I always watch your vidoes no matter the subject and the products. ❤
Sofia - you hit the nail on the head with this one. I’ve picked up a few of the latest launches from Fenty and Patrick Ta only to be let down by the products, not because they were bad but they just didn’t quite match my expectations which are higher now thanks to channels like yours! I am becoming much more discerning on what I spend my money on, more so than “buying less”. I also think revisiting older products (as many have mentioned) would be well received, especially before a Sephora event as I’m more likely to pick up an oldie but goodie during those times 😊👍🏼
I’m so tired of everything becoming a “trend.” This is just normal shopping/consumption habits - or at least, it SHOULD be. On the other hand, hauls are problematic. Especially when it’s the fast fashion type. I love and appreciate your channel. I do not come here to see you review Amazon or SHEIN. I want the best of the best so I can make my own decisions on how to spend my money on something that I deem “worth it.” I by no means am in a tax bracket to buy a Chanel handbag but if I want to buy a $200 limited edition beauty or small goods product, I’d like to explore that option via an in depth review from a luxury channel. Please do not change the direction of your channel to appease those who want less from you. There are other channels for them to explore in which you do not have to compromise yours. ♥️
I liked this video and I like all your videos as it does help me make informed decisions on my purchases, especially with TF, Chanel and Dior cosmetics. You’re not afraid to call it out when a product is under performing and you’re usually right.
This was a great commentary video! You always do a thorough comparison when introducing new products which is how I initially found your channel when I was looking for reviews on a particular luxury product and I ended up staying and getting an education on lots of other things I liked! Not so great for the wallet but I like to think that it at least taught me to be very discerning with which items I choose to buy when buying luxury and by the time I pick one I know it is the perfect one for me because of your reviews 😊
I could totally stop picking up new eyeshadow palettes but I’m going to need my girls Pat and Tasha to hold off on new palettes. And Isamaya, can’t forget her.😂
My perspective on this topic is as follows: for a passionate make-up lover approaching 40, during and after covid i’ve found myself with plenty of expensive products expiring and ending in the bin (unless it was for eyes only) plus having a child i’ve had far less time to do my make up anyway. At some point i’ve started to rebuilding my “base” collection but much more practical and suitable to my current life style. Meanwhile all the products have sky rocketed the prices to sometimes an absurd level and like u’ve said not always the price increase is paired with the quality upgrade as well (often it is quite opposite). Plus with new trends of clean/green etc work horse products have been reformulated so they r not nearly as good as they used to be, yet much more expensive. Therefore before i spend any money as a regular/quiet consumer i look for quality rather than quantity. I want 1 product tht is the best of the best, more elegant yet breathable. I’ll watch several reviews before even approaching a visit in a store myself. And i do appreciate channels like Yours who r well-informed and have experience with the luxury brands and their products. And with certain experience its easier to understand when someone is trying to push a product on u or remains more neutral. There is one more thing tht has changed in the last few yrs- the new releases on and on, always more frequent. With this rate Chanel soon will become a colour pop with a luxury price tag 😂🤣 . In the last 3 months its their 3rd or 4th release. By the time a new product becomes available worldwide, 2 more r being announced. So its not only about the money, but the number of items. If i want to buy a new blush, within 3 months there r at least 10-15 new ones dropped on the market (new shades, formulas etc). I have 1 face and limited space to dedicate in my drawer for any given item whereas its a blush or a pair of shoes. Imagine a person “unprepared” entering say sephora and wanting to buy a blush but trying to examine all or most of the available products over there first… overwhelming. So my motto in this current craziness is less is more n quality over quantity. And thanks to channels like Yours, U’re doing a part of the homework for me 😘
I love all your videos! I can say as someone who is always on a budget you help me find the items that I will truly utilize. You break down every review so well that it has helped me enjoy beauty products and pick items that truly work well for me!
Very interesting analysis Sofia!❤ I love "shop my stash", tutorials, reviews and generally old style youtube videos. I understand the blogging need but exegaration makes me a bit tired! I like chanels like yours that there is balance. Can see beautiful luxury product even if I could afford buying just one of them. But Love being informed for the luxury new fashion/make up releases which imo those actually define the trends. Minimalism is a huge controversial subject. Btw as a GenX, don't watch TikTok 🙈
I love new product videos, because it helps me see real footage of the product vs paid company shots, and helps me decide what will work for me or not. As a light olive skin tone it is often hard to see what new stuff will actually look good on me, and there isn't much created specific to olive, especially light olive. Shop my stash videos are good too in my opinion, as long as the products are still available for purchase--or they have a good dupe to share instead. Nothing worse than falling in love with a look or whatever and then "oh sorry guys, this has been discontinued for 3 years blah bah blah"... I'm a quality over quantity person since forever. Drugstore is cool and I regularly watch creators who feature those products, but I find most of the color stories they put out don't work for light olives, and even if they did, the price point of drugstore is crazy stupid. Yes the quality over all has improved in the last few years, but if I'm only saving 5-20$ for a "might maybe work for me" drugstore product vs a more luxury brand I *know* will work for me, I'm gonna spend the money instead easily. One of the biggest reasons I love watching your channel is your honesty in reviews, and you don't constantly buy products you don't need or like *just* for the views, but that you will occasionally when you get overwhelming requests from your subscribers.
Excellent content. I actually did enjoy seeing you use your "stash". The look you put together is beautiful and cohesive despite using multiple brands. Love hearing your thoughts on what is going on in the industry! Thanks again for all your work on your content.
Great commentary video and I agree so much with what you said here. I come to your channel to see new releases and I love that you basically review every new thing I'm interested in. It's so helpful to see the items used in real life and in natural lighting, so I really appreciate your channel and hope you continue making the videos you currently do!
I love your content! I love the luxury fashion and bag content. I don’t have the budget for those things but I love watching them. When you showed the Fame brand jeans, those were in my budget and I purchased 2 pairs. They are my favorites. With makeup I very rarely buy the prestige brands. I usually buy more of the luxury brands. I just decluttered my makeup and I had 3 bins of makeup that I sent to my daughter and granddaughter. I still have too much but I’m more discerning now. Long story short, I love your reviews and the content. By the way, I love the new brushes! Thank you!
Hey Sofia, love this video and i think you and i (or at least your viewers and I) are on the same boat of underconsumption. I’m a little saturated with all the products i have to and I’m in a place in life where i don’t have that additional money to spend on makeup that i won’t be able to use. So this video was very cathartic. Ty for making it ❤️🙏🤗
And, I love the luxury content. Like you, I enjoy seeing what's on trend, and what's out there. So please keep sharing your thoughts and opinions. I enjoy it so much! I'll stay with you, I am a fan. 👍🏼👋🏼
I really enjoy your content as it includes swatches and comparisons to other products. You genuinely review products & I respect your honesty above all. I'd like to see a best of the best video in each category, or if I could only keep one in each category.
Sofia, I love this video so much! I agree 1000% with everything you said here. I seriously love watching your videos and enjoy following you on Instagram also. I LOVE luxury makeup/fashion and seriously obviously the packaging has to be beautiful as well 🤭🤭. I don’t go crazy buying stuff but when I do I prefer quality over quantity. Thank you so much for sharing this with us Sofia. Huggies to Minnie and Luka! 😻😽
For those of us who went crazy and over purchased... I have slowed down and would love help with organization!!! Would love to see a video on ideas of how the consumer with a larger collection could best organize alot of beauty products. TY for all that you bring to the space ; ))
Hey Sophia. I really appreciate you doing the work for us. Also, I have adopted, with makeup, the mantra from the fragrance community of "try before you buy". Not every brand is available locally, or I have to find the time to get to a store, but once you or another trusted content creator has helped with the process of elimination, I can target the trying. My makeup purchases of the summer were the Chanel tricolor palette, which I use a lot, and a Saie liquid blush, in a totally different tone. That is also an excellent product. The staples (brows, mascara, concealer) get used up before replacing. My one content pet peave is the avalanche of videos on the Hourglass holiday pallettes. Seriously, everyone. Chill out about those.
Hello, I'm more familiar with perfume, as I've been collecting it for decades, so I'll try to briefly summarize my impression. In my opinion, a lot has gone down the drain since the coronavirus era. Both the quality of some brands (even after takeovers) and, as discussed in the video, the prices have gone up. In addition, with perfumes you HAVE to test them, you can't tell from the bottle how they smell and no, a few fragrance notes are not enough to recognize whether a fragrance matches your skin chemistry. The problem now is that there are fewer and fewer fragrance samples available, both from the brands and bottlings that I would buy if there were any. There is a lack of bottling (which brands may have given to stores in the past) as well as a lack of small sample bottles. To cut a long story short: I buy far fewer perfumes now because I can't test them adequately. One spray on the forearm is not enough, plus I don't have as many arms as I would like to test perfumes (when I go into a store) because the stores always say you can spray in the store ;-) In addition, not everyone likes to smell like a perfumery when they drive through the city. My experience is based on my location here in Europe, Austria. All the best for you and your cats, Maria
Interesting video! Before I forget, I love the look you created and actually do like shop my stash videos. I have always loved and purchased luxury makeup and skincare, but feel the prices of those items have unreasonably gone through the roof, which resulted in my being more discerning in what I buy. I skip whole collections or certain shades in a formula that I do love now. Also, handbags and accessories have gone crazy and this again has curtailed the amount I buy. Technically, I can afford these things, I just feel taken advantage of. As far as TH-cam creators go, I don'y watch some of them anymore as they love everything and just throw in as many sponsored links as they can. Similarly, I have to laugh at the race to get affiliate links out for new products - I do understand that it helps creators' purchase power for their channel and that it can be helpful to know when something has been released, but sometimes it just feels like I'm in a shark tank, haha. I appreciate when creators put those messages out even when their link isn't affiliated and I reward those creators. Btw, I personally do not enjoy videos about unboxing mountains of PR packages; I do enjoy when creators use their PR products, disclose that they were received in PR and then give an honest review! Finally, I do enjoy your channel: you're very enthusiastic, but thoughtful and helpful! I hope you don't mind my novel, haha.
I liked t this video! I also enjoyed seeing you shop your stash I would definitely watch it, but as you said this is YOUR valuable time and effort. I want you to do what you feel is right and best for YOU. I appreciate your hard work and your content ❤😊.
A good video, Sofia! Great topic and you discussed it so well. You are a thoughtful, intelligent woman. I enjoy your channel and like to watch it for inspiration on luxury products. You can do fashion as well as makeup IMO. I watch Michelle Wang as well and she shows both. I am as you described a consumer who is selective on what I spend my hard earned money on. I like to expand my collection with luxury or high end products but only one or two at a time. I do have several Dior Addict lippies and YSL lippies though. I am a quiet luxury consumer as you mentioned. I am a 73 year old on social security. I do enjoy fine things but have to be choosy. Feel free to do more fashion videos if you wish. I would like to see some 'shop my stash' as I have only recently started buying good makeup products and could use some suggestions of high end products. Thank you again for your content. Glad I found you on YT.
I actually started checking out Beauty TH-cam and the luxury stuff just a few weeks ago, and from learning about drop-shipping brands to fully avoid them... I love buying the discontinued or older things from resale (zero budget and sustainability and fave brands changing formulas), plus I live in Europe, and then "new releases" are a different concept depending on brand accessibility. It ends up being more affordable and sustainable for me to track down the older items, and once I started finding some vintage compacts and cases, I realized how much everything is just catering to (plastic) packaging with new releases of same/regular products. I'm a sucker for seafoam colour anything, but didn't get the gushing over the Gucci bronzer case now that I'd gotten a few European vintage ones before it (but I do even use the Gucci brush, cause why waste it). I both can't throw out 10-20-year-old drugstore things I have, and got into overconsuming some luxury resale makeup recently (went from 0 to 6 Hermès lipsticks in 3 months?!), which then makes me use up the old things more to justify the "art" purchase for vanity table space. 😅
Loved this. I love luxury beauty and I’m not loyal to one brand. I favor Chanel but have products from other brands usually after seeing on here/Social Media. But I’m a thoughtful buyer so in a way I guess I’m naturally in this category. I do appreciate the new customer or ‘sale’ % off on websites or stores-helps when trying a new brand. (eg Chanticaille, VBB, etc.) I love your videos including the luxury bags!
I love it that you are staying true to you and your brand. There are plenty of great channels for Walmart fashion and Amazon dupes if that is what someone is into or enjoys watching. No need to bully anyone. Is this a trend? I think it's a reaction to the times and a correction from the over consumption that happened with the surging of social media. But I will never be a minimalist. I am here for all the luxury reviews.
I found this super interesting! I rarely buy luxury so I really appreciated your insight! If I’m going to buy luxury, I really do want the best of the best. I need to go through your videos and see if you’ve posted a best of the best video - there are a few things on my list to try. 😃
I definitely see myself within the mind set of saving and buying fewer but higher quality items that truly suit me best especially in cosmetics, skincare, fragrance and style I feel much less wastefu in both my actual product waste as well as financial waste buying what know know I will fully enjoy and use and the products last much longer and or work better for me as well …. I love shop my stash videos because I love seeing the process and results of coming up with different looks from products “ it’s not always the most exciting products that preform well” …as someone who has used the same foundation concealers bronzer and blushes for multiple years now I felt that in my soul thank you 😊
Call a women's shelter near you because mine accepts clean, partially used cosmetics (except mascara). It's a great way to clear your clutter and share what might be a treat for the recipient.✌️💙💚💜
I have found myself being a more discerning purchaser understanding I only have one face to use this all. But to that note I also find I am more conscientious in particular categories such as eyeshadow. I def find I lean towards can I dupe that those colors in my own stash or is the new product unique in some fashion. I do appreciate the comparisons you provide in your videos which helps us decide “but do you really need it?” Mostly driven by economic shifts and rebalancing of our income as travel and social aspects have returned since lockdown. Love your content and love these discussions!
just want to thank you for all of your valuable work - please don’t listen to the naysayers. your videos really help us in deciding what or what not to buy. and please keep reviewing luxury products - this is what you started with and what you’re known for. i’ve stopped watching another youtuber who started with luxury and prestige, but now reviews mostly drugstore. just like luxury brands will always have buyers, you will always have viewers who have graduated from drugstore and only want luxury.
Great video, dear Sofia, i agree with you and you look amazing!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩It's hard to keep up all the new releases, it's soo much! Because of my serious allergic asthma, we live spring/summer in our beach house which is smaller. Rule no. 1: it has to fit in our beachhouse, otherwise i get drown in makeup, simple, and such a waste for the planet. Was i crazy for PMG etc palettes before getting more dry skin as well as more sensitive eyes, yes, but gave away all of that. And still too much makeup here, really doing it better, but great reminder for all of us! And indeed, what i want is the best of the best! And i love your comparisons!!! And, a video using "old" makeup (what is old nowadays???) i just love to see it, than i see products i may or might have still! So, i love to see shop my stash video's! And i also love the video's about the new releases! I'm not an American, in your country makeup is very important, but as a European, i would say to you, you don't have to buy it all, i watch anyway, sooner or later, cause i just love your video's, Sofia!!! Ranking video's i really love! For example powders or bronzers, of course you still purchase new ones, and it gives us an idea what you really love the most! Expensive bags, i just don't use them, health reasons, my, mostly Bogner bags contain losts of meds, simple. What i love about you, is you being you, so pure and honest, and also digging, making excel sheets, if its for your new home, where it's the best in the USA, temparature etc, cold winters, hot summers, i remember! The video about your new cat , i loved it the MOST, from the ones you made this year, is that strange Sofia? I just love watching animals and yours are also soo cute! We have an Australian Labradoodle despite my lungs, its possible! And i love also watching wildlife video's/content, from Sheldrick, Reteti, Imire, and others! Have to stop, crazy late here in NL/EU. You are smart enough to find your way through this, you are at 100 K before you know!!!❤
I totally agree about being more “selective” with purchasing luxury beauty. Last few years I would definitely try and get my hands on all the pieces in the Chanel, Dior, Tom Ford etc launches. However, this year I’ve been purchasing just the pieces I truly want. When Chanel launched 2 blushes for summer, I asked “which one do I really really want” and I only got one. Did I want both… yes lol… but I know I really won’t use both. I’d just be collecting. And I want to use my collection not just let it sit in my vanity!! I love your channel and thank you for sharing your luxury purchases (especially the shoes❤)
I love shopping my stash but i also love new things. My favorite way to use up makeup is to designate my oldest stuff (3 or 4 lipglosses or lipsticks and an eyeshadow palette or blush stick or something like that) as gym makeup. When i take my shower I wash my face and get to do my makeup twice in a day😂 this way I get to use up stuff i once loved and things I love right now at the same time! I love all your content and watch every video. You have a true knack for performance! Thank you for all you do.
Great video Sophia. I enjoy your content so much especially when you mix it up with commentary and fashion. I haven’t bought as much makeup since Dior & others started changing their formulas. I am tired of buying eyeshadows and there is no pigment so you pull out an old pallet just to create a look…ugh! Rant over 🤣🤣
I love makeup and skincare and I’m guilty of wanting to try everything new! For a regular consumer I have a lot of makeup! So I promised myself to go on a no makeup buy for at least 3 months! And I told my kids to hold me accountable for that!!
I’m in the same boat. The amount of makeup and skincare I have is just stupid. Especially since I’ve noticed lately that wearing makeup seems to be aging me so I’ve pulled back a lot.
I really enjoy long version videos. I don’t have TicTok and Im really not interested in a quick review of anything. I enjoy your channel because you review luxury. If I want a drug store review or a lower price point dupe Amazon type review, I’ll search for it. In the same way I might look for reviews of sunscreens or French fármacy products. This applies to fashion as well. I can see how constantly reviewing certain things can get boring and monotonous and people branch into vlogs and lifestyle, I think sometimes it works and others not so much. It depends on the style, age and lifestyle of the followers, it can be a gamble. As for purchasing, I often try to use affiliate links to help support your channel as well as others unfortunately there are times I can’t because I live in Europe ie. the Guerlain Pucci colab and it isn’t available for me. Great video, as always!
My makeup is carefully cultivated, and I live in an area with no luxury counters and a limited Sephora. I did not buy during Covid. I rely on you to show me Tom Ford eye shadows, Gucci blushes, Victoria Beckham, RMS, Westman Atelier and Chanel. I appreciate your reviews. I do not watch tik tok or buy viral makeup. It’s a big investment that I want to see before ordering.
Love your commentary & channel! Keep doing you. I use your channel to inform my purchases. Yes, you are an, "influencer." However, I am an adult; responsible for my decisions. It's up to me to under- or over-consume beauty products. It seems that consumers are trying to shift the blame of consumption from personal responsibility to influencers. Personally, I love your channel! I went to Neiman Marcus to get color-matched for & test out the texture/coverage of the Chantecaille Future Gel Skin Foundation. It's fabulous! I also purchased the Giraffe eyeshadow. Thank you!
I so get you. I've been declutterring my collection. Trying to keep a very curated collection. But lately I've been seeing so many beautiful blush videos that I was influenced myself to try several. So I tried the. Armani luminous silk, and the. Hour glass liquid blushes and a few others and I'm just enjoying it so much but I am a little overwhelmed. I may need an intervention.🤣😳😂
Great video and information. I try to be selective on what i buy in general. Im not perfect. I also Love shop my stash videos for ideas on makeup we already have and Love❤. And I Love Minnie and Luca😊
I'm definitely feeling the quilt over over consumption lately. I love makeup and have a large collection but lately I feel myself being way more thoughtful about what I purchase. And I'm in the camp of id rather spend more on something really good then buy a bunch of cheap things.
Hi Sofia! Thank you for this great POV. I fully agree with you. One other factor that is contributing to reduced sales of, and reliance on, makeup and skincare is the increased popularity and relative affordability of Botox, fillers and other procedures - as the effects look better, last longer, and are cumulatively truly and effectively anti-aging.
Great topic. I want unique colours, quality and performance in beauty. I don’t get the feels for luxury packaging as long as it’s practical and ok, I’m happy. I like viseart, simple packaging & good quality. I’m looking for the viseart of other categories. Yep I’m happy for influencers to buy and try on my behalf, they have opinions based on experiences with more beauty in a way that I could never experience. I want to know what they think is the best coral blush and why! I also love seeing people use older products, it’s interesting to see what influencers really liked over time, it often triggers a shop my stash for me too.
I don’t really follow trends just more what I like best for me and my daughters. I enjoy your content and agree you do the best of the best and that makes it easier for me personally to choose a product. Thank you Sofia.🥰
I love that thier blushes are clean the swatches are bad but on the cheeks 98-99% are really good the eyeshadows are hit and miss for me and they aren’t really clean so they pretty much messed up the eyeshadows for no reason 😅☺️
Brava Sofia! Such a well constructed video! I agree there needs to be a personal balance with spending on luxury items but that’s not to say that I would not hesitate to purchase a new Pat McGrath palette if it interested me (I live in hope! 😉) I love your content so stick to your guns Sofia and I wish you continued success. Much love from Melbourne Australia 😊🌹🥂
You’re not wrong we are looking for high quality .Certain brands don’t do it for me they have to be amazing ❤I love Chanel .I appreciate your reviews 🥰

It feels like everything just gets taken to an extreme… we went from beauty rooms full of stuff to getting rid of/throwing everything away. There for sure can be a balance 😬 and it doesn’t have to be a trend.
I totally agree with you! It’s kind of annoying how everything has to be a trend. I just do my own thing lol
THIS!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏
@@RR-fn6dmYes! Exactly 💯
Thank you for the feedback! 🤗
I couldn't agree more:)
Fellow 55 year old viewer. Yes to all the things!
55-year old too! I agree, and I will admit I do have a little too much stuff. For me, videos of people using the things they already have instead of getting new os best. I do have those massive PR hauls, and never watch videos like that.
55 here as well and wholeheartedly a big YES to everything you said above!
Agree!! Except I'm 57😂😂❤
55 here also! And yes, I agree with the Shop My Stash videos. Brings me some of the same feelings.
I’d really like to see more shop my stash and revisiting old favorites videos. Thanks for doing what you do.
I don't have ""extra money" and still overspend on makeup. I am guilty and blame myself.
(lol)
For Me: I’ve gotten rid of 90% of my influencers channels and am refusing to buy more until I need something.
Agreed, I like the videos showing how older products are used, it helps inspire me too 😊
Great video, Sofia!
But do what you feel is best, we’ll watch 😊
On a side note, I love that taupe colour baby blade brow pencil on you, the tone and shade is perfect!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the feedback!
👏 👏
I have not bought any makeup for a month. I am going to try to hold out until 2025! I am sure there will be a few exceptions. 😜
Totally agree. This is the first commentary on this topic that I actually listened to. Sofia also covered points I havent thought about myself.
Loved this video Sofia! To be honest I had to delete Tik Tok, I felt like I was losing brain cells every time I watched...
Legit I had to download it to research this video and I think my IQ dropped 🫠🫠
@@SofiaSeesBeauty 😂😂😂
I felt fine until you said « not buying the same shade of lipstick over and over » because I’ve really been doing that 😂
We are all guilty 😂
I liked this video and I like all your videos as it does help me make informed decisions on my purchases, especially with TF, Chanel and Dior cosmetics. You’re not afraid to call it out when a product is under performing and you’re usually right.
Great video, really thoughtful. I’d love more comparison of new with your favorites.
And Isamaya, can’t forget her.😂
U gotta unsubscribe and unfollow 😂 then u won't even know.
If i want to buy a new blush, within 3 months there r at least 10-15 new ones dropped
on the market (new shades, formulas etc).
You might enjoy Donna from MyNewObsession her channel is all about shop my stash and project pan content 😊
@@mellokitty4186 thanks I will check it out
I love new product videos, because it helps me see real footage of the product vs paid company shots, and helps me decide what will work for me or not.
Love this comment
Excellent content. I actually did enjoy seeing you use your "stash". The look you put together is beautiful and cohesive despite using multiple brands. Love hearing your thoughts on what is going on in the industry! Thanks again for all your work on your content.
Great commentary video and I agree so much with what you said here. I come to your channel to see new releases and I love that you basically review every new thing I'm interested in. It's so helpful to see the items used in real life and in natural lighting, so I really appreciate your channel and hope you continue making the videos you currently do!
Thank you for your reviews Sofia. I love them because they are luxury items. I rely on your opinions. Keep them coming!
you are becoming my favorite youtuber. your video is thoughtful and you are very enjoyable to watch! great video
Thank you!
Great video ❤, and I agree with most of the comments your subscribers stated.
I love love love your channel. You help me be mindful. As I already know I love luxury beauty, I want to make informed choices and you help with that!
Hello,
I'm more familiar with perfume, as I've been collecting it for decades, so I'll try to briefly summarize my impression.
One spray on the forearm is not enough, plus I don't have as many arms as I would like to test perfumes (when I go into a store) because the stores always say you can spray in the store ;-)
In addition, not everyone likes to smell like a perfumery when they drive through the city.
My experience is based on my location here in Europe, Austria.
All the best for you and your cats,
Maria
Its spot on! You have got what its all about. Very interesting to listen to you.
I tell myself don’t buy new lipstick until I finish at least one 🤣 and I have many. Though eyeshadow is always exception 😅
So hard to finish an eyeshadow! 😅🙈
I use my blush and bronzer as eyeshadow and it's the best look I ever had. Got tired of eyeshadow palettes. Too overwhelming.
Yes I have a playlist! :)
Good to know. I usually give it all to my loved ones who are very happy to receive it :)
Loved this video!! Thanks so much..very well said..and I LOVE shop my stash videos.
just want to thank you for all of your valuable work - please don’t listen to the naysayers. your videos really help us in deciding what or what not to buy. and please keep reviewing luxury products - this is what you started with and what you’re known for. i’ve stopped watching another youtuber who started with luxury and prestige, but now reviews mostly drugstore. just like luxury brands will always have buyers, you will always have viewers who have graduated from drugstore and only want luxury.
I love your channel and thank you for sharing your luxury purchases
(especially the shoes❤)
I love shopping my stash but i also love new things. My favorite way to use up makeup is to designate my oldest stuff (3 or 4 lipglosses or lipsticks and an eyeshadow palette or blush stick or something like that) as gym makeup. When i take my shower I wash my face and get to do my makeup twice in a day😂 this way I get to use up stuff i once loved and things I love right now at the same time! I love all your content and watch every video. You have a true knack for performance! Thank you for all you do.
Love what you do, Sofia!🎉
Haha love that you got your kids involved to teach them good habits 🙂
I think your look is beautiful!!! Love your commentary I agree with all your points!!!
Why thank you Sandy!
Thank you dear for taking us along. Can't wait what the HIDUPZ queen picked up at Fendi
I’ve been declutterring my makeup and reflecting on how I amassed so much lol
Great topic. I want unique colours, quality and performance in beauty. I don’t get the feels for luxury packaging as long as it’s practical and ok, I’m happy.
I like viseart, simple packaging & good quality. I’m looking for the viseart of other categories.
Yep I’m happy for influencers to buy and try on my behalf, they have opinions based on experiences with more beauty in a way that I could never experience. I want to know what they think is the best coral blush and why!
I also love seeing people use older products, it’s interesting to see what influencers really liked over time, it often triggers a shop my stash for me too.
I looove shop my stash videos, especially looking through the make up collection at first
I don’t really follow trends just more what I like best for me and my daughters. I enjoy your content and agree you do the best of the best and that makes it easier for me personally to choose a product. Thank you Sofia.🥰
Ps. You are so right- consumers are overwhelmed at times (and bored) but what types of videos are hetting the most views? Ty Sofia!! Well done.🎉🎉🎉
And Dior reformulated and increased their prices and the powder formula is awful. They ruined their eyeshadow palettes and blushes too.
I love that thier blushes are clean the swatches are bad but on the cheeks 98-99% are really good the eyeshadows are hit and miss for me and they aren’t really clean so they pretty much messed up the eyeshadows for no reason 😅☺️
I’d love to see more luxurious beauty products from brands like sisley or la prairie
I agree!
@@CourageousDreamerAllon4journey right? Chanel and Dior are so mainstream now
Brava Sofia!
