Well, I stumbled across your channel about 5 hours ago and I can’t stop watching.
    You are amazing!
As a 52 year old who has rebuilt more than a couple boats I desperately want to send you a load of tools, but then I have to remind myself that at your age I was struggling with the same limitations and you keep getting the job done! So well done!

You’ve taken on an astronomical project it’s just going to take time. Also, keep in mind you’re taking on a project by yourself that 95% of the population would not even attempt. Of course, it’s going to be difficult. Of course you’re going to have problems. I’m confident you’re strong enough to overcome any obstacle.

You are doing fantastic. I know I'm getting to this video late, as I just found your channel, but cut yourself some slack, you are doing the majority of a major boat overhaul BY YOURSELF!
I give you so much credit, you are living your dream, and sailing, even more impressive is the fact that you are solo sailing! You are living my dream, even to the point of sailing nude!
    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

You are doing brilliantly! I sometimes used to work in a Tyvek suit in an air-conditioned building and it was hot work. I can't imagine how it must feel under the tropical sun! This is the hardest part of the job now. Everything is in bits and no matter how hard you work it doesn't look like anything is getting done but this is the point where it starts to get better. From here, you will see that each step starts to bring you closer to your vision.

we use them at work and its kinda besides the point but some of the guys what they do is slice the back of the suit open with sharp razor blades similar to like a bear claw attack they get some movement thru the suit .. u can also cut the inner thighs and underarms .just a idea ...

Yes, you will be able to go back to sea. Yes, you will be able to do it. Speaking to you as a father of two girls a bit older than you I can say with confidence that you should be proud of all you've accomplished on your sailing adventures and your boat overhaul. Your instinctive hard work ethic will bring you to success. I'm betting on seeing a future episode where you're relaunching the boat. Keep up your good work. Best of luck. Please make your holidays happy ones.

@Sailing Artha, hi, for what it's worth, in all my years I've never witnessed a young lady with the determination you have. You've taken on a project that so many would run from. With all the challenges you've faced, then overcame, you've showed your followers you are well worthy of the 'bell ringer subscribe', this due to you being upfront and real, letting the emotions flow freely but most of all ... modeling that non-chiffon, nor lace trimmed 'Zoot suit' and making it look as fancy as a sleek little black dress. You've done good!!! I can't wait to see the emotions of 'splash day' ... that will be an episode chocked full of goosebumps and tears. Until then ... keep going ... you've got this!!! - Jerry

Was looking forward to this update as always. Big projects have a thousand little steps to them It can be really daunting.... frustrating ...overwhelming to the point of 2nd guessing and doubting yourself. We all been there and it sucks cause it sooo draining. But recognizing that and releasing all that stress is a good step Crying, talking about it to someone supportive even on video helps get rid of some of it. Big projects not only improve your boat but yourself as well.
As for the daily or weekly tasks : Take a breather for a minute, walk around and create a master list of ALL projects in some kinda order. Dont worry bout it being 2 or 10 pages long, its simply a roadmap, a chart that guides you. Each morning make the day's short list from that master. Dont go "overboard" taking on too much. If you get done fast you can either add another task or have a nice walkabout. Keep it real and if you get hung up due to needing a tool or part move on to the next task on the list. Dont interrupt your flow during the day. Plan on morning or late afternoon run into town for items.
Take each day on its own and not the entire boat project. Dont look at the mountain 100 miles away and think ' ohh my God its soo far away!' Just stick your hand out and say ' okay I'll go this far today ' Its one step at a time. Before you know it you're at the mountain or in your case the sea !
Last but not least know when to give yourself a break . Take a ride up in the hills Show us the island ! Life isnt all work. Yes we know you have certain amount of time on the hard and you get antsy to sail again - you'll get there dont worry..... Showing different places, sites and people of the DR in your videos will help keep viewers interested. Its an important part of doing them. Show us the town and its people. Viewers are stuck at home or in their offices, some will never get to see places like the DR etc. How bout even a short interview with the Marina's owner or manager on how they got started . Free advertising goes a long way 😊
Sorry for the epic comment but ya needed a little nudge and good support. You'll finish her dont worry And you'll be casting off once again stronger, a little wiser and tons more confident !

To free up old nuts and bolts. Wire brush all of the exposed thread and nut. Get every bit of corrosion or paint off. Soak with PB Blaster for a day, or longer. Start at the nut to unscrew it. Starting with the head is just a losing game. Hopefully the nut will come off with the bolt/screw still firm in the hull. Wind the nut to the top of the thread slightly past the last thread and whack it with a hammer to try and drive the bolt down if it is still tight in the hole. Even the smaller piece of paint, rust or corrosion can stop a nut from turning. Been there a million times. Take your time if you can.

I always joke that I didn't get a PhD in history; I got a PhD in Patience. This is a major restoration, not a spiffing-up, and it'll give you your own PhD in Patience. Sweating in a Tyvek suit and respirator is just as much a part of the whole thing as standing night watch at sea is; everyone's done it unless they're loaded. And nothing will teach you your boat better than having to work on every little bit of it. A BCC is as worth doing such a job on as any boat there is, and no small boat will take better care of you wherever you choose to go. You've made serious progress. It helps me to break down huge jobs into sub-jobs, as checklists; I can jump between them as necessary to keep going (say, when weather is not good for one thing or I'm waiting for parts or whatever), but at the same time I can keep up with where I am with each one, and I don't get confused or overwhelmed.

I remember you saying, in an earlier video, that you start to feel bad if you have to stay in one place for too long .....So I can understand your frustration !.... ..BUT....your time WILL come.....and you'll, continue doing what you love doing......AGAIN !
I feel for you, when I cant physically help you with your boat !.... But I guess a lot of people feel that way toward you when they see you cry !
Anyway....glad you got your supplies to finish the job Nicole ! It won't be long now,
till you are floating again in ARTHA... and I feel that you are very proud of yourself for what you've accomplished so far !
Love from me in Australia ⛵🦘🇦🇺🌹

Hi. You could also wash the hull one week or a few times with a pressure washer and scrub it with a scouring brush.
That way you will make the hull very clean. Also if you remove all the gel coat then the hull, in that temperature, is going to dry out very quickly. That drying leaves a residue that has to be removed with high pressure and scrubbing. Now is the ideal time to take a measure of how much moisture is in the hull and/or let the hull dry for a while before applying a Barrier coat or whatever you like.
But that is your decision of course. But since you've already done so much work. Since you have some osmosis, there will probably be some moisture in the polyester. But you can't tell until you measure. If you have osmosis again, after some time, because you haven't done the right thing now, you can sand it all off again. :) You should consider it anyway. Talk a pro or something :)
And you can use polyster resin. It doesn't have to be epoxy. Its way cheaper. :)
    Greetings Belgium

I used a grinding burr. Basically a round ball about half size of golf ball with rasp surface. I did 100 blisters in one day and then hit with heat gun which pushes out the moisture and in another day I filled all the rounded holes with fairing compound. Only needed grinder in a couple of spots. Easy peasy. Boat yard now is on same technique. Super time saver.

At least you are out there doing it! I’ve been working as a Merchant Mariner for years, and I still don’t see myself as a sailor. I can definitely see how being on the hard can make it seem like you’re not a cruiser, but it is necessary to keep the boat running smoothly! It helps you gain more trust in the boat too.
Working on refitting my first seaworthy sailboat this winter/spring while daydreaming of cruising at work. One day I’ll get the courage to actually follow through with quitting. Keep up the good work!

You're not lazy. You are making amazing progress. Don't fret. We, your followers, are not going anywhere regardless of the rate of progress. We just want to see you succeed. I've seen a lot of people go through what you're going through - you're doing great, especially considering you are doing this by yourself with minimal support (both physical and emotional). Once you're out of the yard and on the ocean, it will have all been worth it. ❤

As someone who's worn a tyvek suit a good bit, I generally use duct tape to make it fit/hold it up. Remember they don't call your boat "on the hard" because of the dirt beneath it, but because of all the work it means you have to do.

Projects are like a staircase. The flat parts are where you make progress and not too much effort. Then you run into the vertical part which seems unclimbable. At this point you need to have a strong talk to yourself put your head down and plod along. How long it takes doesn’t matter. You have the guts and determination to keep going as fast as you want. Don’t give up on these stages. One day you will get to the top and can enjoy the next flat bit for a while. Don’t look too far ahead as it can be depressing. One day at a time. All a project is a series of small steps that add up to a major step. You have a beautiful boat, age is on your side keep hydrated and treat the heat as a sick joke that is happening to you. Crossing an ocean is a just a lot of day sails added together. You are on the right road. Turning round sucks so keep going. Take care .

You have taken on a large project. There must be others in the same yard who are also doing big refits. They are your "pack" right now. When I am overwhelmed, I make the goals tiny. Perhaps, I will do 3 coats of varnish on this item by lunch time and then some other small thing after lunch. That way I don't have to worry about the overall project until one of the tiny goals is to update the project chart. I believe you can do this.

I would suggest a shallow cone shaped high speed drill bit/or abrasive, rather than grinding, to get rid of the boat pox. You'll remove a lot less fiberglass, and less fibreglass work later, followed by less sanding. You can then cut circular fibreglass patches and lay them into the holes in layers. Just a thought.

Awwwwww. It's okay. Of COURSE you will be out there sailing again. What else would you do? Forget all you've learned your entire life? Pfffft.
I understand, trust me. 2 summers in a row I gave up to take care of my stroke recovering Mom when we're slow at work. Still have NO REAL ROOF on my cabin and haven't worked on it in almost 2 MONTHS now 😞😞😞. Been too busy working OT and taking care of my Mom (and she llives 7 hrs away round trip....make that journey WEEKLY). It's cold again. Walls not done. Hardly ANYTHING done this entire year. Sooooooo frustrated and annoyed. I'm RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. But. You will get through this. I will get through this. One day soon I'm gonna see you in the cockpit of your new vessel braving the elements and undergoing some monumental voyage. And maybe you'll see a video or photo of me on my deck overlooking the mountains and throwing some logs into my stove as it begins to snow. We. Got. This. You Got This!! You've come too far! You've accomplished too much! Whatever it is you put your mind to, I have NO DOUBT you're gonna accomplish it. 🤜🤛💪👍😁⛵️💨 Hang in there, girl. Please please..although you ended positive..go sailing a day or more Nicole..just with friends or as crewmember to bring a boat from A to B (and maybe also earn some needed money for that). It will do you good and is one of the best down-time away pushers I think for us sailors and our kind of pack-members..yes you will sail again..and yes me too will watch you doing so.❤ Sadly too far away and too poor still to support you directly but I know you will succeed..I know you will..but find some more 'fuel' for your optimism. Bravely forward and sail by today's wind❤🎉..or at least keep trying..like me almost 3 decades later in life😅

I second all the compliments here for what you've undertaken and what you've accomplished so far. And I'd like to say most of the hard part is behind you, but it's not...your boat has a SERIOUS case of boat pox. I'm honestly surprised that a boat with the BCC's reputation had it that bad. The blisters went well beyond the gel coat. That's added exponentially to the workload you've taken on. Most people prior to barrier coat have maybe a dozen large blisters, and 25 little babies that barely get into the lamination; you've got them everywhere you turn, with SERIOUS cavities. So, give yourself a pat on the back. Some would have run away after seeing the true extent. Heck, just grinding off all bottom paint is a job and a half on boats smaller than yours! But starting with a clean, smooth bottom that's been ground back to the fiberglass, fully dried out (which takes at LEAST as long as you've been on the hard, so don't sweat the time spent so far), and then barrier coated will give that vessel a second life. And whenever you go to sell her, that work you're doing is very marketable to a new buyer. You also have it meticulously documented with lots of proof of what you've done. It's probably already worth a decent bit more than you paid...and it should be with all your sweat equity. So take a bow

Thank you. Yea I think because the boat was sitting in the harbor for at least 10 years without a haul out, the water seeped in. Thanks for the encouragement

I realise these vids are way after the fact but it pays to read the comments. For example the angle grinder disc flip was covered by another kind soul a while back. Also talcum powder. More hints gleaned from people smarter than me working on boats. Grab some clamping vice grip pliers for all those jobs where you need to grab onto stuff from the other side. Another way of cutting skin fittings, cut the mushroom type top with a cutting wheel on your grinder into pizza slices, just like you were cutting a pizza, careful not to go to deep so you only graze fibreglass, then with cold chisel in-between fibreglass and fitting hit and lever pizza segments off the tube. The bronze levers and breaks quite easy this way, easier than grinding the whole lot down methinks.
Please tell me you saw the don't join lithium with agm warning comments from the marine electrians in the last vid.

As an old fiberglass person....it seems that your best option would be to fill all those pockets where water has penetrated...and then re glass the hull..
There are just too many holes to patch...

Hi! I think you're doing amazing work, and appreciate the vulnerability you show in your videos. So many people on this platform only show how "perfect"their life is, when we know in reality they're all just as messed up and as imperfect as we are, so they come off as fake. I know how lonely (and difficult) a solitary lifestyle can be and wish I had a friend/partner as resilient and as.honest as you seem to be. Please keep going, and know there are people out in this cruel world who wish you well and are genuinely rooting for you.
A thought: in addition to Patreon, you should consider posting your PayPal or another option for people to help with one-time donations, in case they can't commit to an ongoing monthly amount. Best wishes!

You shouldn't beat yourself up over your progress. Do not use any polyester resin. It doesn't compare to epoxy for water resistance. The only other advice I have to give is to switch to flat grinding discs with a backing pad instead of the flap discs. Go as coarse as you can get. Gouges and scratches don't matter when you're adding filler material. They're actually beneficial for bonding. There's NOTHING worse than laying underneath a fiberglass boat hull in tight quarters and grinding over head in a tyvek suit. Nothing helps for comfort in those situations.

Hi Nicole, just ASK for help, within the yard, or the hardware store. Set a time, "even if you can help me for an hour." You'll be surprised how that helper boosts your own enthusiasm. Most "genuine" helpers won't stick to your "set " time, but will stay longer. Don't be embarrassed to ask for help. But always give them the time of an hour. I'm 12k miles from you, otherwise I'd be up in a heartbeat. If you get more than one offering to help, accept that offer. Two people, say just helping for an hour, plus you, will achieve a hell of a lot. Take care mate. All the very best, from down here in Nz. Remember ASK.

Very sexy work outfit, Nicole. The boots are the finishing touch. I can see this on the summer catwalk in Milan. Seriously, you're doing a great job. When you are up to you elbows in alligators it's hard to remember you were sent in to drain the pool. A bit overwhelming at times. Please accept a big hug from all of us. What's next on the list? I've had days at work when I busted my butt and at the end of the day I felt like really didn't get anything done.

Thanks! Next on the list is repair the blisters and cut new rigging. I’m waiting on a good day for the mast to come out. I’ll be putting a video together on replacing the luff of the head sail and installing the new Norseman wedges later on. It’s been rainy, so much of the hull repair is delayed, though i am about 2/3 of the way done with the blisters on the port side. Thanks for watching

You're doing a great job... You are living the life I wanted to until life got in the way now after two wife's 5 kids and a work accident that put me on social security disability I'm trying to work towards that dream myself and I will not let it stop me so don't let it stop you
I watched a video of a minute ago where you talk about why you cry you know you and I we have a lot in common I ODed on diet pills when I was 10 years old because my mom and my dad and people at school tell me I was fat well even after 3 months in the hospital because I lost 100 lb in 6 weeks nothing ever changed except for me I still have them thoughts of what it would be like if I wasn't here and even after years of therapy that doesn't change you just have to make your mind up you're going to live for yourself that's why I'm looking for a sailboat so I can get out there on the ocean myself

Hey there. Thanks for sharing this. I went through my own battles of compulsive eating and codependency. It took over my life and I had to go through a dramatic shift in my mindset in order to be okay. I’m okay now, but it took being desperate and hopeless enough, along with the will to want to live. It’s not easy, especially when people look in on my life and think it should be easy. There is ALWAYS a way though. Always. As for where you are now, you haven’t lost any time, you’ve just gained perspective and maybe the motivation to get to where you want to be. I hope to see you out there!

Nicole, got a question for yea.. How do you eat an Elephant? the answer is one bite at a time.. whenever you work on big projects that seem very overwelming, stop yourself and focus on each task, and get them done. one by one.. and you'll make it to the end. a small trick i learned from a old TV station engineer. never worry about the things you cant change. only worry about the things you can change, then decide if you want to change it or not.. so, dont worry about your following, because girl, we are here with yea the entire way. dont worry about money, its good to be mindfull of money, but dont worry about it.. if you need it, say so, and dont be embarrased. people will help.. also, your pretty and amazing, how can you not have a following? i know i'm a Fan, and cant wait to meet you on the water one day. :)
