I noticed Hookfang always becomes the most frantic out of all of the dragons when he loses his rider. Those two piss each other off constantly, but they still care about each other a lot.
You know, I'm starting to have feeling that Hookfang annoys intentionally purely Snotlout due to the latter’s attitude. In "A Tale of Two Dragons", when Astrid and Snotlout switched dragons for some time, Hookfang's first reaction was super friendly head cuddle, instead of some trolling. You get what you give, I guess...
There's so much humor in this show, and these two carry a good portion of it! it seems like they don't get along, but they have their own unique bond. Toothless and Meatlug getting mad at Hookfang there was hilarious!
He may be annoying, but he makes the show funnier along with the twins I feel like, without them, this show would be less funny. And the dragons, too, they also make the show even better.
You can always count on Hookfang to put Snotlout in his place when he's getting too cocky. Also, Snotlout must have cartoon levels of stamina, or something like that. He's been set on fire countless times, he's been hit by Hookfang's tale twice (once actually sending him flying into a wall), he's been electrocuted, and Hookfang flew him into a post at 0:21, among other incidents. Like Wile E. Coyote, he has sustained so many injuries, but still manages to walk away.

The Twins repeatedly get themselves hurt, either by fighting each other or by doing something stupid. Or both
I gotta say, Snotlout and Hookfang’s relationship is the same one Ash used to have with his Charizard (back when it first evolved and was disobedient). Oh, who am I kidding? Charizard was way worse. At least Hookfang lets people ride him, Charizard used to never let people do that.
i feel at least half of hookfang brain power is reserved for ways to hurt snotlout. he puts alot of thought into hurting snotlout that if he didnt he could be way more smart
I’m very convinced at this point that Hookfang is the second smartest dragon in RTTE. He understands what Snotlout is saying. He absolutely can hurt someone but for all the things he does to Snoutlout, he never does any real damage. I’m sure he knew in HTTYD 1 that he was placed in that arena to die. He also knows that Snotlout was the one that got him out.

the jorgensons are a very physical family. his dad spitelout "blugeons his own head for sport" and their clan intiation is at 9 months old killing a bear (a 9month old has to kill a bear to be part of the family) snotlout is quite durable.
Honestly i'd argue its not that toxic, especially later on. Riders and defenders i can agree but in rtte they seem to have a pretty good understanding and care for each other🤔
Out of all the Hookfang moments in Dragon’s: Race To The Edge none have made me laughed harder than 1:47-1:50! It’s not because he fires at Snotlout it’s because one of his eyes looks slightly smaller than the other it’s just so funny to me because it’s a stupid like look and I absolutely love it! I remembered laughing hard at this the first time I saw it and I still do! 🤣🤣

In the Indy League of Pokemon there was an episode where Ash gets temporarily separated from his Pokemon and during that time we get subtitles to what the Pokemon were saying when it was just them. I wish we could have gotten a RTTE episode of that with the dragons. It would have been awesome and funny to know what Hookfang was thinking every time he abuses Snotlout.
And yet HookFang secretly cares about Snotlout due to Snotlouts arrogant and selfish (and on occasion eccentric) personality that’s my guess on why he doesn’t have a full bond with HookFang
