I played this game when it was free for a time. While it ws a bit fun, I found certain things to be frustrating, and now that I think about it, most of it came from comparing it to, and trying to play it like, Company of Heroes. I felt frustrated trying to micro my infantry into cover, and seeing how they often move all over the place trying to get into cover (instead of going where I told them to). The game seemed to have many interesting aspects, but I never got to understand how to use the reserve mechanic. And couldn't find the way to upgrade my production buidlings, although that's probably mostly on me.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me.
I know this will sound crazy to some, but I could see a really good warhammer 40k total conversion mod for this. It seem like it would work in theory with the existing mechanics.
Great review thanks. Second time you used "hokey" for this game too :D I still think they shouldn't have over-simplified the heavy vehicles i.e giving them the same armour type as regular infantry. This cuts out the interesting rock-paper-scissors counter mechanics which make games like COH so interesting. In COH tanks and heavy vehicles require a counter in the form of anti-tank for eg. I respect what the devs have done though with this game and I appreciate they are a small first time RTS developer. I look forward to enjoying the campaign at some point and if the multiplayer can be reworked a bit then I'll definitely give it a go.
For me, it has been the best game of the last years, yes, there are some features lacking, but man, I had just such fun playing the campaign and using those crazy mechs... highly recommend it! Better give 50 bucks to those passioned artists than to Blizzard, EA etc ...
You always deliver great insight into these games, thank you very much. :) I am so thirsty for a new RTS but I'm also someone who prefers base-building more and checkpoints not so much - top that of with the "kinda world war" setting which isn't really appealing to me.... :( I can see what they were going for, though. Might still grab this in a sale and see if the campaign can grab me
Wait, all factions have medics and all of the classes. Yes their weapons might vary a bit. But a flamer unit is available for all. The only unique units is the basic (since guns are so different) and the heavy armored guys.
I find myself agreeing with most of this video. Iron Harvest has a great aesthetic with cool mech designs, but the game's release was harmed by bugs and missing content, and the gameplay itself felt like a downgrade from Company of Heroes despite being full-priced. The lack of a munitions resource removed a lot of customization and tactics from the game, the simplified cover removed a level of skillful positioning (one of the best parts of CoH), and the mechs, as cool as they are, don't have a ton of gameplay depth other than just being beefier units you attack with. Though I do appreciate how the devs are working hard to update and balance the game months after release. Here's to hoping that they manage to turn things around, because there's definitely a lot of potential in Iron Harvest. I'd hate to see such a cool world go to waste.
Seems to me like a simpler, poorer dumber cousin of COH that has a lisp too. It might be good for people new to this RTS style, but for COH veterans it just won;t cut it. Tnx for an honest review.
The reserves are pretty well balanced I seen a lot of different tactics Saxony does have a big player base but there not really that amazing as in that mutch better then the other two you can easily steam roll Saxony hell would even say there smgs aren't Even that great being beat by the Polanian rifle for micro and beat by the rusviet shotguns for rush tactics
Thanks for the review, it pretty much confirmed what I already suspected from the few gameplay videos I've seen. In the end I'm glad I didn't buy it and likely won't, as gameplay feels pretty shallow compared to Company of Heroes series. Plus, I definitely prefer good old fashioned tanks instead of mechs! Also, here's hoping you don't disappear for another 3 months.
imagine not having 8 player functionality in an RTS in 2021. even POPULOUS 3 has 8 PLAYER NOW!!! A GAME FROM 1998 THAT ONLY HAD 4 PLAYER, HAS 8 PLAYER NOW! -_-
its just a shame a 2020 game is still outclassed by a 2008 one on both graphics and gameplay . never had the courage to play this one it just feels cheap
I don't get why everyone praises CoH when it is just spam-spam-spam. No tactics, no strategy. Just build units, which you can use to bully the enemy and that's it. Have you played CoH2 recently? The Wehrmacht players always build artillery or use OP artillery abilities that have no counters. What about the rest? Same story! Every game it becomes a game of firing explosive shells and missiles at the the enemy. I have about 150 hours and I find the game as stale as it can get. Every game, the map turns like the Moon and there is nothing but craters which makes the maps dull. On top of that tanks are way too strong, absorbing hits and being able to drive backwards like in full speed, make AT-guns almost completely useless, if not massed in bigger numbers or the enemy is dumb to not move their tank from harms way. And if you try to do something fun, which may not be meta, you lose. Also, I am sick and tired of artillery and the whole RNG part that surrounds it and the game. Sometimes Artillery doesn't do much, sometimes it lands at the vehicle/squad and kills it instantly. Some abilities like dropping smoke bombs or such that are not just damage abilities are great, but to have a I-click-and-win button is so lame and is not fun. Oh but it cost resources, oh but it has a long cooldown. Well, from experience that doesn't matter much. When you've outplayed your opponent just to get bombarded back to base, how is that fun or skillful on the part of the enemy using the said abilities? On top of that, the BS hard counters where the German team has the delete-infantry infantry, the best HMG, the best tanks, the dumb halftrack Stuka that deletes stuff. It is not fun but just a game of frustration to see your units get annihilated in mere seconds. Not sure about IH and whether it has such dumb gameplay decisions but not having abilities to nuke your opponents army without counter in my opinion is a pro, not a con.
@@steelprophecy5951 It was for me when I played 3v3 and 4vs4. Majority of the games were just spam. And before you tell me that the game is balanced for 1vs1 and the spam there is less, I sincerely do not give a damn.
I agree with you, it has potential but right now it's not worth the price

Why would you play a 40k conversion of this over Dawn of War 2?

Hard to beat the King (coh) but nice try now if we could just get Sega to give the game some love maybe a new expac or map pack

Great review, thank you. What I've seen Iron Harvest success in is art :)) the game looks aesthetically beautiful. Looking forward to Iron Harvest 2.
