Fun fact: The characters in the first Animal Crossing can recognize a love letter and reject you.
When I was a kid, I thought Olivia was pretty and was borderline obsessed with her, so I sent her such a letter. She rejected me completely, told me to leave her alone, and included a piece of furniture as bargaining and out of pity.
    It was a golf bag.

Funny, the only time I see anyone claiming Nintendo is locking content behind a paywall, was those Amibo figures.
The Gameboy linking to the Gamecube was accepted because owning a Gameboy was a no brainer at the time. Actually, I've seen hundreds of people wishing that any of their DS or 3DS models could hook up to the Wii/Wii U as well, which Nintendo never delivered on fully sadly.

It’s because you can’t put too much locked behind amiibo. It’s surprisingly tricky to have amiibo content in games. You can’t have too little, and you can’t have too much. The perfect solution to this would be an amiibo special game. A game where you don’t have to pay to enjoy the game, but to get a character you want. Think Disney Infinity, but not cancelled.

You talking about your Animal Crossing nightmares reminded me of one of my video game-related nightmares I used to have. It was the one where me and my dad are sitting in the family van outside a store waiting for mom. All of a sudden the van shifts and begins to sink into the ground, or more accurately, a puddle of Shadow Mario's graffiti, the same way the graffiti made buildings and people sink into the ground in Mario Sunshine. It was terrifying watching the world get replaced by complete darkness right before waking up in a sweat.

    • @chopsmccartney6786
      @chopsmccartney6786 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I had similar nightmares from Mario Sunshine. One of my earliest video game nightmares took place in Ricco Harbor, where I was fighting the big Blooper boss. The environment would just fall away except for me standing on a small steel platform held up by scaffolding. The map would get flooded with water, the sky texture lost its clouds and just became this aqua color, and the Blooper boss would become giant in size.

That reminds me of when I was younger as well- my brother and I named our character Asshole. And our town was called Asstown. My dad saw what we had named it, and pretty much said the same thing your dad did. Yep. XD
Aside from that, my brother and I weren't very good at the first game, but we did still play it a lot. We probably started a new town every other month. Although I still remember some of the villagers we had in our first town; Scoot, Tangy, Vladimir, and Quetzal.
It was the first time we had ever played the game, so we didn't really know what to expect and going into the villagers' houses was very interesting and amusing because Vladimir's was a weird mix of playground toys and construction equipment, and Scoot literally just had some grass flooring and a sprinkler. We were like "what the heck, these animals LIVE like this?!" and we just found it hilarious.
We also loved sending mean letters to villagers, but more often than not, they would just say that they didn't understand what we were trying to say, but thanks for the letter anyway.
We also loved pissing off Tangy. XD
And we were terrified of Booker for some reason. I dunno, just the way he would follow you around the police station was a little unnerving for us. :P
Lastly we had a cheat book that we got from one of our school bookfairs, and it had a bunch of codes for rare Nintendo items that we could get from Tom Nook, so we used those to decorate our house and time-traveled quite a bit because we could only redeem one code a day.
And that's about it! The only other games in the series I have played are New Leaf and New Horizons, both of which are excellent.

She probably bought it because it was for kids. When I first tried it out I did not like it I was more interested in what my father got me called Orcs and Elves. Lol but one rainy afternoon I decided to give Wild World a try and well it's safe to say I fell in love with the game. Every waking moment I had it was to play Animal Crossing. I would sometimes wake up early just to play the game and talk to my villagers. I spent a lot of time playing Animal Crossing. Till one day my dad wanted to try it out because he saw how much I was playing it and well he didn't know but he accidentally deleted my town and made a new one. I was devastated like all those fun times I had were gone, those memories I shared with my villagers, my hard work, my town. Everything it was all gone. I was so sad I could've cried.

If in New Leaf she was seen doing more stuff outside and you could talk to her normally instead of her only being bussines then i'd think i wouldn't mind as much the shift in mascots, but even now in New Horizons we still don't really get to talk to her normally all that much. If we're sharing memories, I wanna share some of mine as well.
I never really got into the series super hard like most people did until New Leaf. Before that, I would beg my sister to let me create my own profile on Gamecube just to make custom shirts lol. I did have my hands on Wild World, but my young stupid brain didn't really understand the full enjoyment that came with the game because I instantly hacked that sucker with an Action Replay. I kind of just skipped City Folk only because I only ever rented it. Not for very long of course, had to make use of my local Block Busters. Eventually though, I got New Leaf a year after launch and I finally understood what it was all about, and I had so much play time in. I never really played the multiplayer stuff, but it was fun just slowly building up my town, upgrading main street, and decorating my house. I would play it on the bus before school, after school, whatever free moment I had that wasn't spent on responsibilities. I set a goal for myself that I would play the game every single day for a year because I loved it that much, but I eventually just got burnt out and only played 8 months straight, but that was my fault. Once I got the villagers I wanted, I didn't want anyone to move. Had my house the way I wanted it, and gave the town the best decorations I could. At that point, I was only playing it out of routine and upkeep. I didn't like changing stuff when I had it perfect back then, but my mentality has changed. New Horizons feels like a breath air. The freedom you have to fully customize your island and the amount of things you can do on a day by day bases really ignited my love for the series once again. Just like you James, I have my own qualms with it as well, but I hope Nintendo patches some of these issues. A ton of my friends online and irl have the game too, so interacting, trading, and just chilling out on each other's islands is a lot of fun to bond over. AC really is just a feel good game anyone of can just play and relax with, and I'm thankful for that.

That's why i like new leaf so much because it was like a thowback to the first game. Everyone had their original roles pretty much it made me happy. I only rented city folk and played it so I can't really say how I felt about it because I only played it for a little bit. I thought the city part was interesting. The fact they brought it to new leaf in a way is good too.

Seeing how much anyone can modify their island now is really the one thing that's got me wanting this game. Really creative people in New Leaf could use the touch screen stuff to draw roads and paths to lay down, but it was still pretty limited and you were at the mercy of RNG where your villagers decided to plop down their houses. Now you can pretty much shape your island in any way you see fit, as far as I can tell anyways. That one thing adds so much personality, it's like your entire town is an extension of what used to be just throwing furniture down in your house. This series is also super wholesome and cute, it's tough to say no to that.

I did the same thing selling Harvest Moon 64 when I knew Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life was coming out. Immediate regret... Really enjoyed the video. Brought back a lot of nostalgic memories growing up with AC on the GameCube and onward :)

I've noticed more people these days are pointing out that Tom nook isn't as bad of a guy as people think, and along with that people are pointing out how the first AC in general seemed a lot more mean spirited. I don't actually remember most of it from my childhood but some of those screencaps really surprised me with how rude those animals could be. I do have childhood trauma from Mr resetti, though.

Holy crap. You made the EXACT same Triforce constellation in the exact same place I did in Wild World!

This is the first video of yours I've come across after seeing you and Scott the Woz play "What's That Track"...
    James: "Malarky"
Me: "IS THIS GUY CANADIAN?!" :)
    Hey neighbour.

I was thinking the same thing after the YTV reference in this video. Canadian AC fans unite!

You and Brady should do more '100 things I like about...' videos. I loved the positivity of that video

The warmth and the empathy of this video makes me watch it everytime I feel that I'm the only one finding comfort in a video game like Animal Crossing. The DS version got me through military service and I'm so grateful for that
