It should be "thuh" dog and "thee" oil. The reason we day "thee" before a vowel is the same reason for a vs an. It's to break up the two vowel sounds with a consonant. When we say "thee" there's a hidden Y sound at the end, whereas if we said "thuh" we'd have to use a glottal stop to seperate the words.
Standard American is an accent too, everything is an accent, it's just about which one you learn. Personally I think everyone should keep their accents, it makes language so much more fun and expressive
that's not really true... there are rules to a language. Americans do pronounce some things incorrectly like mirror (we say Meer often). if you simply write out how people speak you can see who is accented and who is not.
@@krebgurfson5732Dude I open another comment and you’re here again saying the same stuff wtf 😂 So here I go again. One of the first things we learn in my major as a speech language pathologist is that orthographic representation of English (how it’s spelled) is unrelated to how it’s pronounced. Obviously it’s good enough so that children can learn to sound out words (decode), but that’s it. When you say the rules of a language, you fail to see that those rules are ever changing! Different dialects have different rules. Otherwise, I’d have to treat international students for speech disorders every time they have a different accent than mine lol. Moral of the story: don’t mind how the word is written, the “correct” way is every way in which any accent may pronounce it.
