I was an alto in a district-wide high school choir about this size. We sang this masterpiece during our 1982 spring choir festival. It was an incredible experience back then! Listening to this (and singing the alto part) took me back in time.
Thank you for posting this. Your choir and orchestra sound wonderful! Thanks for the choir memories. :)

This is such a masterpiece, and this performance is impeccably beautiful! We sang this in Michigan State Honors Choir when I was in high school, and it has stuck with me all these years. Brings back a lot of memories and evokes a variety of mental pictures. Truly captures the American Spirit and the importance of both education and democracy.

My first time hearing this beautiful piece, I think the voices and orchestra are amazingly blended!

A great performance of a great song. We did this with San Diego All-City Honors Choir sixty years ago, and I still remember it well.

Brilliant! This is my long overdue introduction to this piece. In these times, the message is so vital: "America, cast you the real reckoning for your present, the lights and shadows of your future -- good or evil? To girlhood, boyhood look -- the teacher and the [public] school." This performance may not be technically perfect but it is damn good. To assemble a mass choir and orchestra of students and get this quality -- it is masterful. I'm using this recording to learn the piece to sing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra on June 29 2024. It brings tears every time I hear it. Bravo and bravissimo to all.

A gorgeous performance. I enjoy this arrangement with strings and winds over the one for wind ensemble; it is nice to find it here.

Fantastic! Perfect words and music to celebrate our new 46th president.

You must be joking. Celebrate a senile puppet of the Chicoms?

@@timothywilliams1359 It was better than the alternative; a filthy demon without empathy for anyone except himself. Get your brains and heart out of Sean Hannity's bodily cavity. If I believed in prayer, I WOULD pray for you.

A beautiful and beloved work, to be sure -- one that's I've known for many years -- but a disgrace to use it in celebration of the witless mannequin (Joe Biden) currently occupying the White House.

Great piece of music. Unfortunate that a choir this big was drowned out through most of it by an orchestra this small.

Very nice job on this song. My only issue is the tempo. This piece is usually more like 15 minutes long. Here it is only 12 minutes, which is too fast, in my opinion. The song's climax feels rushed and, therefore, less majestic than it otherwise would be.
