About the fishing problem, google "Sea Striker Heavy-Duty Bluefish Rig" that's what you want, that way the last few inches of line connecting to the lure will be metal wire instead of synthetic line.
Hi… Your leader should be longer than the fish you catch. Maybe try switching to 🎹 wire for your leader but you still have to make your leader longer than the fish. Their fin will cut your line when swimming away from the boat. Loved the video.
Lo miro de vuelta y es un episodio hermoso, por las vistas, por el baño de Mako y por la aparicion de tu mama. Muy Muy Muy lindo, no me cansaria de verlo nunca 👍👍👍😘😘😘💗💗💙💙
Also-Sharks May be biting off your fish that you hooked. I would set the bait clicker on the reel with drag loosened a little so you hear when a fish hits and can tighten back drag and reel it in as fast as possible before a shark takes it.
Man, you shot some beautiful footage, Lauren! I’m thrilled. Your mom came to visit that must’ve been nice. Thank you so much. Sending lots of love as always.💜🤗🤟🏻🐬😎🫶🇺🇸
I just wanna say that you are absolutely amazing! Not only are you beautiful, but you’re super knowledgeable and exciting to watch. Helps that you have an amazing smile too 😊. Prayers for your future adventures ! Keep on keeping on girl! You kick ass!
Imagine fish have dentures. Stop trying to pull them out. Ease the tension on your real so when the fish strikes it can run a bit. When that happens you can start to tighten the break & haul in. But I think it's open for discusion with your fello cruisers. The other thing is stop the boat. Especially with big fish.
Lauren one never knows what will hit a line in the water with a dead, live bait on it. I in 50-plus years of fishing in deep Saltwater off the West Palm Beach Fl Coastline. used wire leader of 6 ft 80lp test or more with my rods and reels having 40 lb. or higher pound test line depending on the size of the spool or type of reel. I have a Spinner with a 40lb test I was fishing as a trolled bait and my catch was a 65 lb. King Fish that all but cleared the spool. I added drag and palmed the spool to slow it down and then used the rod to work the fish by pulling up and back with the rod and reeling as I moved it back down so the tip of the rod was pointed at the water. I took a while to do this but after some time managed to boat the fish with a good gaff hook of the 4in open hook with a 6 ft hand with some snoodle attached so it floats if lost overboard. I saw you had a mono-filament leader and if you use it double the test strength of your terminal line of the rod. a larger snap swivel also as you increase the leader size too. One trying to minimize the weak points in the catching system. all Fish with very very sharp teeth can cut your lures off the leaders. Also depending on what you want to catch Feathers with weighted heads also are good to troll. My Favorites are Black and red for Wahoo and Mahi also Blue and white. and the plastic one work too.
Beautiful surroundings. Love the underwater views. Mako is a riot, much like my cat, Milo! Keeps me on my toes. Really sweet to have mama on the cruise with you. Love you guys, Doc.
Try honey 🍯 take a spoonful every morning and night helps you sleep 😴 too! Helps clear skin up heals wounds too! Try local honey helps allergy ❤ that you can do it all yourself! But mom visits are great! Happy sailing ⛵️
Thank you so much for taking video of the coral reefs! If climate change continues to wreak havoc on our reefs, your videos will help us remember what they were like. Safe travels ❤️
Lauren you. Really are an inspiration with your calmness, and poise. Great sailor. Just thought I'd tell you. Thanks for sharing again. Love your posts and vids. ❤😅
I remember two schooner weeks sailing on the Penobscot Bay in Maine with mom Betty after dad died and it was magical. 22 other passengers and singing captains Ken and Ellen Barnes on the oldest documented sailing vessel in America in continuous use.. built in 1871. One of the best memories is a recording my mom and I made singing "Rolling Home to Old New England".. I cried the first 10 miles leaving Camden. Maine the Syephen Tabers port at the time.
Lauren, when your Mom left you after her enjoyed visit, never gonna feel so sad about you; instead, maybe a little envy...because those marvelous where you`re working every single day...of course, with Maco, the only one cat that like to swiming 😹 🐈⬛...🖖😊✌
I’ve had many cats who retrieved but only a particular thing, like baggie ties, or crunched up cellophane. Mako seems to retrieve ANYTHING! I mean, seriously, zucchini!
Ive spent LOTS of time in the Bahamas sailing, cruising, and fishing. Y'all are probably getting cut off by barracuda. If you use a bit of wire at the lure (like 18 inches) you will reduce the cut-offs dramatically. The downside is that you will catch a bunch of Cudas, but you won't lose so many lures, lol. I have really loved following you ! I am so jealous. I spent a large portion of my life from maybe 13 into my 30s cruising and sailing the Bahamas - mostly the Abacos, but I've been from Walkers to Eleuthera. I am much older now but I sure miss those days. Take care and be safe Lauren.
Color of the ocean is amazingly atractive, your video is getting clearer by the way and the sand is absuletly white and beautiful, macko is one of the attraction 🙀
I agree with bert you should change the lead lure into a fishing cable wire for at least a meter so in wont cutoff, there are fish that has really 🐠sharp teeth,..
About the lure, when i was trolling they had a metal wire attached to it otherwise even a barracuda's teeth could cut the regular fishing line.. I'm sure u had a big catch.
There is this portable AC that runs on batteries called Zero Breeze. I saw it used to cool a two person tent. You might be able to at least cool off your cabin at night. Think it can run 8 hours on the battery and if you get one of those Jackery units or even just plug it into your house battery bank you can get much longer cool time.
I have been binge watching and liking your vids, something I noticed is that the backing track music your using is improving :) Always a pleasure to see how Mako is handling the situation with you. Your lifestyle and courage is admirable and beautiful, wish you all the good and to continue following your adventures.
Lauren - many paleagic fish species have sharp teeth or tooth plates. You could try using a steel trace between the polycarbon line and the lure to prevent being bitten off. Also - don’t tighten up the drag on the reel all the way too quickly - let the fish tire itself a bit. Then as you start to wind in increase the drag.
Its amazing to me how many people think that cats can't swim. They can and they are natural at it. My daughters cat loved the pool. Great video Lauren. Very pretty water.
I'm not an expert but I've trolled in Hawaii and the Bahamas. Plus lakes in CONUS. From what I can tell you have a good pole and reel. The weight of the spool line is important and where your drag is set. Does the line snap as soon as you hook or does it take the line out for a few hundred feet and fight for a few minutes? It looks like the leader snapped. So it could be the drag setting or the leader. I'd recommend using steel wire leader. You also need to know what fish you're after. Make sure the leader is longer than the fish you're hunting. And the lure is the right size, color, shape, etc for attracting the fish. And how it is suppose to drag, meaning is it going to skim the surface or run a few feet under the surface. The weight of the leader needs to be heavier than the fish. If a shark takes it all bets are off.
Either it’s toothy critters like barracuda (most likely) or mackerel. Or yiur leader is dry rotted and it’s breaking when they strike. Make sure your drag isn’t too tight too. And buy cheaper lures if you’re gonna keep given them away 🤣
Great video Lauren. Happy that Mom was able to join you and bring some much-needed supplies. Is your autopilot working better? Man, I love diving on reefs. The great advantage of snorkeling over scuba is you don't have the mechanical noise of the regulator. Mako is so entertaining. BTW, enjoy your drone coverage. Tell Mom we were happy to see her in extended video coverage. Yeah, something about fish blood and wiggling in the water tending to attract sharks. Fair winds and following seas...
If you ever near a place that deals with horses, ask them for the fly spray they use on the horses. It's non toxic and lasts for weeks. We use it indoors, outdoors and on our animals ❤
Hey Lauren, About your trolling/lure issue, you can use Knot2Kinky titanium wire and crimp the ends with a swaging tool. Or to save a bit, the regular stainless steel wire. I use anywhere between 1' - 2' with a coast lock and a ball bearing swivel to connect to the main line. When you set your lure out, adjust your drag on the reel. Make it slack enough when the fish bites your lure, it will take line but not that tight it will break off. When you hear the line spooling off the reel, you can either slow down your boat and/or tighten up your drag slightly and start reeling in the fish. If you need anymore info, let me know. Great underwater footage. Cheers 🤙
I think it's awesome that Mako can swim! After all, he is a cat living on a boat. If something happens, and he ends up in the water it's great that at least he can swim! 😀
Awww Mako loves you so much he will swim for you… that is car devotion for sure ❤. Good to see you with your mom and I such a beautiful place- wonderful🎉. Sadly I did not get to haul out- river is too low now at the DIY boatyard, but on the plus side I did get to sail!!!❤❤❤ good conditions if hot, light wind in morning gaining as the afternoon came so we wing on winged up river and tacked like crazy people down--😂😂😂loved it. Hugs to you and the Wonderkat! Be safe and hope your mom has a great time.
Yet another fabulous vlog. The underwater footage was out of this world. I'm green with envy for your lifestyle. I hope you continue to have a great time with your Mum (I'm a Brit)! Take care and be happy!😘😘
I am happy that Mako continues to let you be his crew and sail his ship. He is a excellent judge of character.
About the fishing problem, google "Sea Striker Heavy-Duty Bluefish Rig" that's what you want, that way the last few inches of line connecting to the lure will be metal wire instead of synthetic line.
Lauren Landers Obvisouly the most PERFECT 1O.....EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
When you are trolling for fish that bite, add a stailess steel leader in front of the lure. They can't bite through that.
Hi… Your leader should be longer than the fish you catch. Maybe try switching to 🎹 wire for your leader but you still have to make your leader longer than the fish. Their fin will cut your line when swimming away from the boat. Loved the video.
I agree with another comment. When trolling, you need to use a steel lead between the line and the lure. Ocean fish have sharpies!! ❤
Use a 20" or so steel leader between the lure and line. 😊
Lo miro de vuelta y es un episodio hermoso, por las vistas, por el baño de Mako y por la aparicion de tu mama. Muy Muy Muy lindo, no me cansaria de verlo nunca 👍👍👍😘😘😘💗💗💙💙
Cat fetches cucumber? Great Odin’s Raven!
Lauren those photos of you modeling are absolutely stunning 😍
Also-Sharks May be biting off your fish that you hooked.
I would set the bait clicker on the reel with drag loosened a little so you hear when a fish hits and can tighten back drag and reel it in as fast as possible before a shark takes it.
my fav video so far
So cool seeing Mako swim!❤. I think he enjoyed it!😊
Lauren, try using a wire lure leader, then the fish can't bite through your line, saving the cost of the lures 😊😊 tight lines take care 😊
Friday fun continues, yay, angels in the garden of eden , Mako is such a trooper
Big thanks 🌿
Very cool you got to spend time with your mom
If there's a most beautifully shot youtube video award you have surely earned it, amazing 😍✊🏻🏴
Fun, thank you…..Mako rocks! You know some really cool anchorages…..andrew
Thanks
Another great video, and I have to say you have the coolest cat I’ve ever seen in 61 years. Keep up the good work. Stay safe and enjoy.
Mom and daughter fun in the sun 🌞 another beautiful day in paradise 😁 love it
He is the coolest cat ever ❤️
I'm avid fisher. Out there you need a wire. Love you're content. Can't wait to be there next year.
Man, you shot some beautiful footage, Lauren! I’m thrilled. Your mom came to visit that must’ve been nice. Thank you so much. Sending lots of love as always.💜🤗🤟🏻🐬😎🫶🇺🇸

Aw this made me smile. Appreciate you!

Crooked Island sure has changed since 1985 but the water is as nice as ever!

definitely use a wire leader, won't save them all but most.
Beautiful surroundings. Love the underwater views. Mako is a riot, much like my cat, Milo! Keeps me on my toes. Really sweet to have mama on the cruise with you. Love you guys, Doc.
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Mako's Scent is on the Boat. He Feels Vulnerable When He's Not Around His Scent. Mako is Part Dog. 😹 Swims and Plays Catch 😸
You need a 12-18 inch steel leader between the filament line and the lure.
I love you and Mako, I don't know how you do it but this is how I wish I could live my life. Although I have 6 kitties... OMG, I know...
I had a sneaking suspicion you are a model. Good stuff girl
That was a flounder fish. Flat white fish that swims like a sting ray. Good eating. Easy to spear.
Try honey 🍯 take a spoonful every morning and night helps you sleep 😴 too! Helps clear skin up heals wounds too! Try local honey helps allergy ❤ that you can do it all yourself! But mom visits are great! Happy sailing ⛵️
Use a wire leader to prevent lure loss... Available anywhere fishing supplies are sold.
again its not all sailing love the under water shots and shows how much you love it
Hey Lauren you need to use 3-4 feet of solid wire leader. 40-50 lbs should do it.
The other thought came to me that lost lures and cutoffs are common off the Barracuda when a lure has any flashing metals or mirrors
The drone and underwater shots are amazing well done.
Thank you so much for taking video of the coral reefs! If climate change continues to wreak havoc on our reefs, your videos will help us remember what they were like. Safe travels ❤️
С удовольствием смотрю ваши видео. Что можно сказать:Вперëд капитан, к новым открытиям😊
Your dives are always the best part of your videos. But i like the rest too
Thanks for posting.
Cheers, SV Good Karma as Grins

Thanks Lauren. Loved it. I'm glad you got to spend time with your mom. Tough solo skipper or not.
Try the Bimini Twist. It is a fishing knot I read about in a fishing magazine. It could date back to Hemingway.
As always, another impressive video. I really like the drone shots as this is the only way I will ever see them.
You can make temporary fly sticky strips using paper n treacle
About the lure, when i was trolling they had a metal wire attached to it otherwise even a barracuda's teeth could cut the regular fishing line.. I'm sure u had a big catch.
I'm not a fisherman btw... 😅

Hey , I just started watching your vids yesterday, sorry . Excellent, beautiful to see your doing what you love 👍
Enjoyed the video sister. Luv that water and the coral heads are amazing. Thanks for sharing, stay safe woman…
Groovy video, but fly's in the cabin is a little much. Are you using a steel line with your lure of nylon?
Nice to see your family cares about you
Get yourself a propeller shaft tie bar so propeller doesn't turn when sailing or it burns the bearings and cluches on transmission
Props 2 mom and her contribution 2 the philography of this one.. the drone shots are epic as well.. great job n thanks so much for sharing💖
Girl I do love your content, and that Mako is just special. A fetching cat on a sailboat. Wow!
Aw thank you

Your lifestyle and courage is admirable and beautiful, wish you all the good and to continue following your adventures.
Mom & I did Lauderdale to NewYork in 10 days ..
Thanks Lauren mako and mum another great show .Mako goes swimming yahhh ❤😂
Use a steel leader and instead of a lure, just a weighted spoon with 1-2 treble hooks 😊
Use wire leaders, can't bite through those.
Awesome!
Seeing your cat swimis awesome now I don't have to worry
Que ermosos lugares igual que tú felicidades por tus videos❤

How about you get and use a metal leader from you monofilament line to your lure?
I love the drone shots. It makes it so we can really see how amazing the water looks.

Yeah every year I get the marina flies too,
Hey girl I love the color of the water so blue I can see it makes you smile . Keep it up I love watching your videoa
U need a metal leader to troll fish. It will prevent the cutting of ur line. U geaux girl!!
I had a crazy cat once that loved the water. Had to lock the bathroom when I took a shower because that fool would jump in.
Beautiful video they always cheer me up love ❤️ your channel
I hope you and your mom have and be safe
I live in Exuma hope to see ya one day 😊
Cool to get Mako in for a swim. Smart👍
You need heavy leader or barracuda. Leaders probably baracuda.
Great visit with your mom and i am sure a great time..stay safe 🙂

Love watching your great videos
Truly inspiring
Using a wire Trace onto lure should stop getting lures bitten off.
Hope this helps and safe sailing 😎

Incredible how better your videos are!!! Congrats may one of the best so far in terms of picture quality ✨🎉
