There's no more need for a workaround. Today you can convert your handwritten notes on the iPad to text, thanks to a new update to OneNote.
If you use iPad and OneNote for digital planning, you now have the ability to convert your handwritten notes to text.
Go to your search bar and type in "Scribble." This will take you to Settings without much searching.
    Turn on Scribble.
You'll see a pencil with an "A" over the top of it in your menu in OneNote
Now, when you write with that pencil it will convert to type.
Apple introduced Scribble, a handwriting-to-type technology, with iPadOS 14. OneNote on iPad now supports Scribble and it works within OneNote. This is the first time this feature has been out of BETA.

To those who don't see the Scribble option: At minimum, you need a 6th gen iPad, 5th gen iPad Mini, 1st gen iPad Pro or 3rd gen iPad Air for this to work. iOS 16 is not enough. Basically, any non-Pro iPad introduced in 2018 or later supports Apple Pencil, and therefore Scribble. From 2015 to 2018 the tech was reserved for iPad Pro.

i never thought about taking a pic of handwritten notes and converting to text on onenote for iPad LoL. That was more interesting to me than the scribble feature which I already knew about. It was actually released earlier but MS pulled it and finally rereleasede it

I find that Notability does a much better job of converting handwriting to text than any of the other options I've used. This is most relevant to those of use who use scientific terms and unusual words. Notability reproduces what it 'sees', whereas Scribble tries to mess with it and approximate with trivial words which then have to be corrected with the keyboard. I haven't yet compared Notability with Rocketbook when it comes to handwriting to text conversion but will shortly.

But also not for all languages. So there’s still a lot to be developed.

I still wish there is a combination of digital iCal integration with your hand writen events. Re-writing my digital entries to the “digital” version by hand writing is just double the work. I rather use paper for this but once there is a way, that my handwriten notes and events gets digitize and I could see those in my iCal and digital entries from my computer visible in journal like calendar and on all my devices, well than we are talking😊 Is there a way to do it in 2023? or are we still relying on pdf layouts and revriting evrything as there is still no integration between iCal and anything like GoodNotes, Colanites, Notability, One note etc? Handwritng to digital is ok, but can this be synced with the iCal?

Got the A pen in onenote but no scribble in settings. Maybe only works for english?

    • @Oldnose63
      @Oldnose63 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes unfortunately even in iOS 17 the languages that can be used for scribble are limited. So all those happy and positive reactions on scribble and likewise features are useless for half the world’s iPad owners. It’s the main reason why I bought an iPad and Apple Pencil.
      No handwrite recognition…. Please Apple

There’s only one thing left to wish for:
Apple should make it work for all languages. Even in iOS 17 that still is not possible. Hurts to see all those happy IPad users play around d with something for over a year and all you know that it’s not for you.
Of course I could adapt English or German or French as my main language and throw out all other keyboards so it would work but hey I work internationally and am native in another language that is not supported.
How can Apple support teachers and schools where they learn languages. How do they do that?

Hello Brandon, Does apple pencil2 on ipad pro has the cursor hovering feature for the ONE NOTE app, as it has on surface pro. I need it for hovering the cursor on the screen as a pointer while screen sharing with other people along with writing on the screen as needed. Please see and if it does, please upload a clip. I currently use the surface pro, but it gets too hot. So I want to try different tablets that support digital pens.
Please note, I am a heavy user of the one note app and I have to use only the onenote app for my work.

@@bodendorfer , thank you for letting me know. Today I went to best buy, but they have the demo mode with M1 processor.
The rep told that it might be available on latest M2 processor model as per the Apple support website. But he could not confirm.
So, He suggested me to travel to Apple Store a couple of hours away from my location where they have the latest model.
