    Kwanzaa isn't an African celebration that originates in Africa. It was developed in 1966 by a Los Angeles sociologist as a response to the Watts riots that occurred the year before. Kwanzaa was developed as a means of bringing the African-American community together who had been particularly affected by the riots. The celebration doesn't have any religious ties to the community and not everyone celebrates it.

    I noticed that Paula Deans cooked with a large amount of carbs and sugar because I am a Diabetic. I just replaced the sugar a with sugar substitute. Diabetics know this so it is not like she is making us eat bad we know what to eat to avoid sugar spikes.

    I started watching Food Network back around 2004 and found it fun, entertaining, and actually learned a few things along the way. My top personality was Alton Brown. I loved his personality and his shows, and even bought two of his cookbooks, which, though I only actually tried a few of the recipes (chocolate chip cookies…3 ways! Yummy!) were very fun to peruse. I also enjoyed Rachel Ray. She never tried to pass herself off as a “chef,” but rather a home cook. Simple meals to throw together quickly is what she aimed for and, in that, she delivered. I so enjoyed Paula Deen, and was sorry to see her career crash and burn the way it did. Sandra Lee was a joke as far as her recipes were concerned, but I appreciated her personal story and her ability to put a party scene together. Had no use for Giada and still don’t; I don’t trust cooks who look as if they don’t eat! No use for Flay, either; he seems quite full of himself. I stopped watching Food Network when it became The Guy Fieri Network, and little more than silly competitions. If I want to watch good, informative cooking shows, I stick to the ones on PBS.

      @patriciamarieogemgbodile504 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      No comment on Kwanza, but I just want to set the record straight on Valentines Day. Valentines Day isn’t a marketing device. It’s a Christian holiday celebrating an ancient Roman priest named Fr. Valentine who would marry Christian couples in secret when Christianity was outlawed in the Roman Empire. He was eventually jailed for this and beheaded under the command of emperor Claudius on Feb 14, 269 AD. Unfortunately, like many Christian holidays, Valentines Day has been commercialized, mixed with other religions’ symbols of love (ie Roman mythology’s Cupid) and watered down by capitalistic, modern Western society and people who don’t understand its origins, but at its core it’s a Christian holiday, period

    So lets talk about this "tip skimming" topic that keeps coming up..... I worked in the food industry, off and on, for well over 40 years.... Everything from small independent restaurants to exclusive clubs and golf courses. Almost all of them had a tip sharing rule at one time or another. It was they way things were done and all of the wait staff were aware of it before we ever took the jobs. After all, people like buss staff and dishwashers, as well as the regular kitchen line staff weren't paid any more than the waiters and had no way of making tips directly. At the same time, chances were good that my ability to make a decent tip was directly linked to how well they did their jobs. I had no problem with "tipping" the behind the scenes staff as long as they did their jobs just like I had no problem with customers that didn't tip servers that were sub par.

    Never understood the "racist" complaint against Ree Drummand about her Asian wings snack. Is this hyper wokism on steroids about cultural appropriation? I watched this episode when it originally aired. Ree was well known for her love of Asian-style dishes and flavors. As I recall, this was an episode about Ree making some game time snacks for her husband and some old college friends who were getting together to watch some football on TV. She was playing a joke on her husband by making a batch of wings with a sauce that was inspired by Asian flavors. Are we so far into the weeds with hypersensitivity over every perceived "racist" insult that we can't even use flavors from other cultures to add new interest to our food? Do we need to ban the use of soy sauce unless we can prove we have the appropriate genetic credentials? Am I missing something here?

Many chefs cook unhealthy food and they don’t get dumped on for it. Literally people just wanted a reason to attack Paula. No one is entitled to know your medical situation literally you can get fines if you ask someone claiming a disability what that disability is. Society has lost the plot for sure. Sick of the insanity.

      Interesting how so many are commenting this..while it is 100% true that her medical condition is nobodys business but her own, her racism, which everyone seems to blatantly ignore 🤔🙄 was the real culprit in her demise...and there was no mention whatsoever of what made me start to avoid her prior to the racism scandal..she seemed to have flipped and became outrageously obnoxious, wild laughter for no reason, screeching and talking over and manhandling and attempts to kiss all her male guests, on air no less! It was terribly disturbing!

The food was always great as well as the service being excellent. It was also a great value for the portions you go. I saw Gina in the restaurant working nearly every time I went in- Pat not so often. I hate that they closed both locations. Good thing that there is no shortage of great BBQ places in Memphis!

    The first scandal was back in the 1990s and early 2000s, when they canceled shows and released all of the older people who had made the Food Network so popular. Then they turned it into a flashy zoo of fast videography, non-stop competitions, reality TV gimmicks and complete saturation of the channel with their latest personality du jour, such as Emeril Lagasse, then Rachel Ray and currently, Guy Fieri. Nobody can just cook anymore in demur surroundings. Instead of that circus, I watch the Saturday afternoon lineup on public television, with "America's Test Kitchen" and other cooking shows.
