Wow, i didn't realize DA was so bad there in TX, although it does make sense. Right, DA is the altitude your airplane "feels" like it is flying. The "standard day" is a baromettric pressure of 29.92 inches at like 59 degrees F. Rarely is there a standard dayanywhere! LOL. Warmer air, and humid air, and warm humid air (is worse). Warm air means there are less air molecules per gallon of air. humidity is water molecules and that displaces air molecules as well. So if your field elevation is 2,000 ft above sea level, and the DA is 2,000 ft., your plane's engine and wings are going to move along as if it is at 4,000 ft...So the prop is pushing against less air molecules so it will go slower, the wings aremaking less lift for the same reason, so your take off and climb performance will be less. Just something to be aware of on short runways. I'm just above sea level and have 5,000-7,000 ft runways at my home field so it hasn't been a problem for me, except it is a sweat-o-poluzza until I get above 4,000 ft...
Great advice! Pilots must learn density altitude. I fly a Challenger II on amphibious floats. A 3500 feet density altitude at my 750 foot airport makes the departure end trees way too tall for me. No flying on those days, it’s not worth the risk!
@@TheJonjonj It’s been a 503 since new in 2004, it’s taken me east to Nova Scotia and west to Alberta. I just built and installed a 582 blue head as I’ll be with a passenger much more now. The 503 long wing will do it, it’s just going to be easier with the 582.
Great video. Do the math. What weight throws the CG forward of the front limit? It will fly like crap long before you reach that forward limit. Remember we balance the plane for the primary pilot.
Cool Jon, nice field, reminds me of the field that I'm at, it's also a private runway. My gopro arrived, cable arrives tomorrow. So I'll be making some new videos. My flight to Hastings, my gopro 3 turned off on me. so i'll be making another trip to 9D9. Mid afternoon flight was rough. will do a early morning flight or around 1900 hrs. Mike
What you are telling us is right. It is difficult for tall and heavy guys to find an Ultralight that fits. I am 1,93m and 125kg. So, to get with an instructor that weighs more than 50kg into an UL with Mtow 472 kg is legaĺly impossible. Long time ago i made a flight in a Quicksilver with instructor of 90kg. We drained the reservoir to 5 liters. For two patterns around the field enough. Now the weight limit in France is 525kg, but nearly all over EU 600kg. The limiting factor is the length of my legs. Most seats or pedals have not enough range to vary. Hitting with the knees the instrument board is not good. (In case of a harder touchdown, dangerous for the knees). So i decided to wait until there is a plane available for schooling that fits me, or i have to change to a Gyrocopter, or a PPG. But time is against me i am 68years old.
@ralfkruse7565 perfect time to start! I'm debating on PPG myself! Don't let anything stop you! Keep me updated if you end up doing one of them I'd love to see it!
@TheJonjonj yes, the other advantage of PPG is that it needs no hangar. Here in two local private fields, there is no space in the Hangars. At Avignon Airport, yes, but 600Euro rent monthly. I will try PPG trike soon, and these things are affordable. And a school is nearby 40km.
John. It appears your front seat has been raised to accommodate your battery correct me if Im wrong, but you would get a lot more head room if you went stock with the front seat and moved the battery under the rear seat. Cheers happy flying.
I had a challenger single i am lite and the flaberons had to be down quite a bit to have no pull on elevator in lever flight so i feel a heavier pilot in a challenger is better..
@jackryan152 oh no I didn't think you were! And yes that's a great idea I've made a few small changes with it! It was 465lbs not sure where I'm hiding the extra weight lol
6.2 and 205lb with battery in front, cant ask for better performance,,dont put that electronics box anywhere your head may come in contact from a bad landing
How would you recommend this bird as a time builder and trainer for ASES? I’m currently a Sport Pilot and want to add ASES. Also I’d like to build hours toward CFI-S, could you train someone in the plane as well.

Oh yea I bet that's a challenge! What engine do you have? Don't you have that 680 or that upgraded 582?

I have owned both a challenger one and a challenger 2 ,and I love them both!

Yes you're correct but I'm okay with moving the box I like to have a higher position in the plane to see more!
Lucky guys to have that fantastic field
Hey thank you for your information and good luck on your diet, be safe.
Thank you for watching!

Really awesome channel sir really enjoyed
John , I want a challenger flown from Wisconsin to Ky.
I'd gladly fly it for you I'm just so far away unfortunately.
When you coming to Jacksonville!!
Coming back? Reklaw probably!
Hi, can you make a video where is the serio number for the challenger location?
I’m way more overqualified than you. Need to eat some more carnivore or something myself. Hoping to fly something by next year.
Don't let anything stop you!
Did you do a weight and balance? I am a rolly polly too but yeah, the CH2 is fine with my fat butt in it and I have CW.
Yes it was done right when I bought it! But that wasn't what I was going for in this video
@@TheJonjonj Sorry I wasnt trying to be negative, I was just like I do a W&B every year and mine weighs 451 at my last conditional.

I live in Texas I'm trying to find someone to take me up and in a challenger
Where in Texas?
Houston TX any recommendations
@@marianohernandez198 I'm near Tyler if you want to set up a visit?
That would be awesome how can I contact you

Definitely! Thank you I will take that advice
You still have the electric tape on!!!! Had to give you some kinda crap!
Lol yup! I like it!
Is that what they mean by a fat ultralight ?
Lol it's possible 🤣
@@TheJonjonj lol I heard that expression when I bought a weibe junker
NICE
Thanks for watching!
Excellent videos! I am loving my new to me CH2cws
They are amazing!

Yes but I believe you must own it! I might be wrong but yes this is a great time building aircraft minus instrument time!
@@TheJonjonjIt can’t be fore hire, that’s for sure
@Bigpigdotcom yea there are a ton of rules with these aircraft I really need to get up today on it all! Maybe a video soon!
