  • When I recorded the 'Two Voices' release I decided to video myself recording the final track. This is that video, recorded March 2022 at the end of two weeks spent recording. All tracks on the album used just two Eurorack modular synth voices, and were recorded in real-time, no overdubbing, post editing etc, just performances, warts and all.
The album can be found here: tomorrowthecur...
Most of my favourite recordings of artists were live, which I feel are more organic and interesting. As a result my last few Bandcamp releases were recorded in this manner. There'll probably be some more conventional, multi-tracked and overdubbed recordings in the future, as it has it's advantages and appeal too.
I used exclussively an ‪@AJHSynthOfficial‬ Eurorack modular system for the tracks on 'Two Voices', and all sounds are completely analogue, no samples or digital stuff. I like those technologies too, but I wanted to keep this collection of musical performances 'pure analog', apart from the delays and reverb, which were digital.
All video footage recorded on a ‪@PanasonicUK‬ Lumix GH5 ii, GH4, & GX7. Outdoor footage horribly mutilated in post.

I'm trying to articulate what feelings the drone evokes... a sense of groundedness, a gravitational centre. Extraordinary that one tone can be held for so long without the music ever sagging. Fascinating to see your process and hear it as it happened. I'd love to be able to write like this. ❤

Thank you very much, I'm glad you appreciated it. I think the secret is finding an instrument with a really good tone, then it can remain pleasing on the ears for a lot longer.

9:23 there is something about the Dark Time that captivates me. Analog is king.

This was beautifully done...Sound design was absolutely perfect for the piece. One of the things I really love about your music is a feeling of sadness and nostalgia that I find hits me on an emotional level , and results in a wonderful state of mind. Bravo.

Thank you very much, that's genuinely great to know it has that effect. Those are qualities I'm often drawn to in other people's music, and films, life in general maybe.

Beautiful timelessness encapsulated. Where are the ruins located?

Very nice. Has a "big church" feel to it, especially with the high pitched sequence that sounds a bit like a pipe organ.

Thank you. The influence was mostly Arvo Pärt and Henryk Górecki, liturgical music in general, but with my own choice of tools of course.

Which delay and reverb was used? The "string" sound is amazing.. really lush! Very nice and atmospheric! 🙂👍

Thank you, it was just reverb on this track, but I can't remember which.

This is a really cool piece. But if all you wanted was horns, strings and a cathedral organ you could have spent a tenth of the price on an all in one digital keyboard workstation.

There's a distinction between synthesis and synthetic, (but there's no accounting for taste). Personally, I consider this result as rather magnificient! ♥
