I would say I only Stan two groups, mamamoo and exid, of which I like 80% or more of their songs and love their backstories AND members. Having said that I do agree with umu that MMM is trading in part of their uniqueness in order to get more popular. They still rule during live shows but their biggest hits are less musically interesting than their earlier hits. Because MMM has become more popular, they are attracting more fans, many who do not know the moomoo culture of fairness, mellow kindness and resist the inclination to hate on other fan groups and artists (critique is fine, hating on them is not). Btw, I love decalcomanie, the video mix not as much.

I think most people misunderstood that most of moomoos got mad at Umu because she said she wont make the CM reactors react to most of latest Mamamoo's tracks because they sound too 'pop-y'...not because she didnt like Egotistic....

But the main reason that some of us moos got mad at her is because she said that the more they release pop-y the more likely the CM won't react to the BUT look at their recent reactions.. they're literally reacting to some other groups who OBVIOUSLY have mainstream pop-y songs...
Yeah I see and somewhat understand their anger but how we (or they bc I disagree with our fandoms general behavior in this case) lashed out at her was disappointing and mean. It seems so weird to me as a newer kpop fan that people would try to push you out of the fandom just because you don't like a song lol. It's fine to not like songs, the only thing that's ever bad is sitting in a comment section constantly talking about how trash something is if you don't like it. People came to your video for your opinion but got mad when it wasn't what they wanted. Anyway, I look forward to watching the rest of this and seeing what you think of the rest of the album! If you're new, maybe you haven't seen much toxic fandom, but believe me, they're out there... As an American, I kept being surprised by how intense Knetz and other Kfans are. I think it's partly how much money they invest in their group, buying MANY albums to go to fanmeets, lots of concerts and merch adds up, so the result is, they can only realistically stan one group... By contrast, I can like whatever songs I like, so Dreamcatcher and Momoland's hit songs don't bother me, I just like them! :)
People weren't angry because of her not liking the song. I personally don't like Egotistic much and it's fine. The problem was saying "The more they release mainstream pop-y songs, the more likely the main series won't react to them". The term pop-y was what caused anger. Because 1) it sounds pejorative and 2) the channel has reacted to BP or RV (just taking groups whose songs are very pop) at the same time. The thing she explained was: her friends are looking for adventurous tracks to react to, and we get it (I mean, they're musicians, of course they're looking for something more than common listeners). The formulation was just not it and they reacted to pop songs anyway, and that was upset people. Umu said she formulated wrong at the beginning. That was because of this. We're not that dumb. You have the right not to be into a song.

My favorite artists were George Strait, Hank Jr, Allison Krause, etc. Now Mamamoo is right in there. I am a lover of all music and Mamamoo is a gem of a group. Fun fact: Selfish wasn’t going to be added in this album originally. It was supposed to be a different song completely but it didn’t get a good reaction from the company so they went with this. The song that was supposed to be added is Moonbyul’s other solo song called Mirror. She performed it during their concert along with Moon Movie.
That is not true, selfish was originally going to be just b-side track for Red Moon, then Moonbyul/RBW decided to promote it as a solo (MB talked about this before), but you are right that Mirror didn't get the expected reaction, therefore she didn't promote it as a solo

Well that was partially true, Selfish was indeed going to be digital single like Wheein's but after having In My Room for byuldabang (as it was a good song) she decided to add it along with acoustic ver. for Love&Hate, and it was her idea to have Kinho kit for it... But Selfish was originally a side track for Red Moon, and then they decided to promote it as a single for Moonbyul (Probably they were supposed to promote Mirror as a title track but as it didn't get great reaction/ wasn't strong as a title they went with Selfish instead)
When Kevin was talking about the album as a whole and how Selfish didn't fit with the trap right after trap track. To me, it's not suppose to fit. I mean, Selfish was already released as a single along with Moonbyul's Love and Hate (acoustic version) and a new track, In My Room. In My Room is my fav out of those, and there's a video for that too. So, again, I look at Selfish as sort of a bonus track in the album and not really a cohesive part of the album structure as a whole. I mean, how do you follow Sleep In The Car? That song is so hype!

Dear Umu, I think it is not the fact that you dislike a song, it's how you show your dislike. Sometimes you come off as very dismissive, and that might offend some people. Obviously it is a childish mindset to think everyone should have the same taste in music (or anything else for that matter), but it is just how human's emotions work I guess. People need confirmation and when you watch a reactor who is an "expert" in music and uses the words such as boring, uninteresting, copy pasting few times in a 10 minute video, it is also understandable why some people might feel hurt. I'm not trying to justify internet mobbing and bullying or those possessive fans who think everyone should just praise their favs. I think you have every right to like or dislike any song. There are many songs from the group I'm staning, that I skip almost all the time, also there are songs that I feel attach to, not necessarily because they fit my general music taste, but because I like the message of the song, or because I have some sort of emotional attachment to it for reasons beyond the music itself. Your channel is only about the music and a perspective of a classical musician and you should be truthful and honest to what you want. So don't be bothered by mean comments(although they suck, I am sorry you have to deal with them). I just wanted to give you this tiny suggestion that the way you express your critique can make a big difference in how it is perceived. and please please please don't stop saying mama umu the moomoo. Good points, however I like that she’s blunt about her opinions. A lot of reactors these days say they love everything they hear because it brings them more subscribers, but Umu stays true to her audience and it means that the songs she says she likes she really does like. I think the audience more than anything should understand that even though she’s a musician, what she says apart from facts like “that’s a C” are her opinions ( like “that’s a C, that’s really good”). I didn’t like how it looked when she was choosing her words carefully like she was walking on a minefield hahaha
Well that would be nice, but Love and Hate was only changed to acoustic version and already existed on a previous album in its original version. And they just reacted to Selfish. So, In My Room would be the only viable option, imo. But, I do love In My Room a lot!

In "Midnight Summer Dream": Kevin do really think that a song is very reggae because one instrument is playing a quasi, incomplete reggae riff for brief parts of the song? And that another short section at a different time has a bass line that is another "quasi-incomplete reggae motif"? Nothing in the rhythm section is reggae and the structure/progression isn't either. Now you did almost corrected yourself properly at the end of the reaction. This is a pop song with a bit of a Reggae style/ "influence" in some sections of the song. Again it's what K-pop does so well. It takes parts similar/or sometimes accurate parts from other genres and incorporates it with other styles. Most of the time! So Selfish does have a common Bossa Nova rhythm playing through major sections of the song however again nothing in the rhythm section and if as Umu said; there no "jazzy' chords: So...again ??? Although BN does use Major 7th a lot; it is the chords played off of the major 7th that make the traditional chord structure. Commonly minor 7ths, 9ths and dominant 7's. And 13th sometimes (especially with dominant chords passing through diminished or 1/2 diminished ? 7ths? I think). I stopped playing trumpet/percussion ~40 years a go and I wasn't a strong chord guy!

I can understand the frustration of some moomoos, and they also have the right to express their disappointment. However, they should express their frustration in a more respectful way and elaborate their reasoning, not outright called Umu fake moomoo. Could you make more explaining videos? Maybe point to songs that are almost completely in one key? Play longer examples on the piano of one melody in various keys (for instance A, C and F) in major, than play the same in minor. Maybe some examples of what off key notes do and how switching keys sounds like. For a noob like me it's incredibly hard to even focus on the instrumentals instead of vocals. So any help in having comparisons to find a key and notice changes would be great!

I think that the reason most people where mad was because of her reasoning behind not wanting to show the reactors the song (too pop'y, too mainstream, too plain), and then she goes and shows "Lo siento" and other really pop'y, mainstream, plain songs to the reactors anyway, it seems really hypocritical, like she got carried away in her dislike of the song and later then 'forgot' the reasons she did'nt like "Egotistical" and didn't apply it yo other songs 🤷 I mean sure, you don't have to like every song, but at least be consistent with your opinion.
Do you mean Lo Siento by Super Junior feat. Leslie Grace? Because if you do, I don't think it's mainstream and plain... It's literally a comeback with a Latin artist. It isn't mainstream for kpop. Yes, it might be for western music, but not for Kpop, I would say. Kpop songs, that features another artist, that isn't a kpop artist, are really rare in my opinion (There might be some, but for me I don't think there aren't many good ones) I think plain is definitely the wrong word for Lo Siento... Lo Siento is a song influenced by both Korean and Latin culture (I would say). Calling such a fusion plain is definitely not the best way to express the song I'm pretty sure Umu showed them Lo Siento, because the others haven't reacted to many songs that feature both 'kpop music' and a different type of music (as for Lo Siento it's Latin) And usually when kpop artists have comebacks that feature artist, that other artists literally gets like what? The chorus and some adlibs? As for Lo Siento Leslie got so many lines which was so surprising! I don't think Lo Siento is mainstream in any kind of way :) And also... If you meant anlther song, that is called Lo Siento and I just don't know that one, I'm so sorry for writing such a long text about it. I love your analyses so very much and keep wishing you could hear Sonata Arctica and Nightwish songs also (Finnish symphonic heavy metal which uses dissonance and very long structures inspired from film scores). I believe the longest song is 13 mins long. (My Dream is But a Drop of Fuel for A Nightmare). I find both pop music scenes (Korean and Finland) approach sound in really interesting ways.

Yeah, I admit, I stan Gfriend so hard, that I do feel pressure to like their songs, but that leaves a slight aftertaste. Like, when someone criticizes it, I abstain from correcting them, cuz they like what they like, I can't change someone else. Plus, I don't have Umu's pressure of being out there in public with my likes and dislikes.
Every time dude. LOL and there are many times that to the point I pretended that I love the songs of my bias groups.

I would say I only Stan two groups, mamamoo and exid, of which I like 80% or more of their songs and love their backstories AND members. Having said that I do agree with umu that MMM is trading in part of their uniqueness in order to get more popular. They still rule during live shows but their biggest hits are less musically interesting than their earlier hits. Because MMM has become more popular, they are attracting more fans, many who do not know the moomoo culture of fairness, mellow kindness and resist the inclination to hate on other fan groups and artists (critique is fine, hating on them is not). Btw, I love decalcomanie, the video mix not as much.

That's right, Umu! You're still a Moomoo! That definition of "fan" - that you have to like every title track - is absurd. I think it comes from kfans who can only financially afford one group, so that skews their perceptions.
I think most people misunderstood that most of moomoos got mad at Umu because she said she wont make the CM reactors react to most of latest Mamamoo's tracks because they sound too 'pop-y'...not because she didnt like Egotistic....
She have every right to not like the song! But the main reason that some of us moos got mad at her is because she said that the more they release pop-y the more likely the CM won't react to the BUT look at their recent reactions.. they're literally reacting to some other groups who OBVIOUSLY have mainstream pop-y songs...
Yeah I see and somewhat understand their anger but how we (or they bc I disagree with our fandoms general behavior in this case) lashed out at her was disappointing and mean.
As she clarified at the start of this video, she didn't mean it that way. As much as I loved Egotistic, classical-wise, the track was pretty simple and predictable.

It seems so weird to me as a newer kpop fan that people would try to push you out of the fandom just because you don't like a song lol. It's fine to not like songs, the only thing that's ever bad is sitting in a comment section constantly talking about how trash something is if you don't like it. People came to your video for your opinion but got mad when it wasn't what they wanted. Anyway, I look forward to watching the rest of this and seeing what you think of the rest of the album! I also can't wait for all the other videos in the description to come out :)
If you're new, maybe you haven't seen much toxic fandom, but believe me, they're out there... As an American, I kept being surprised by how intense Knetz and other Kfans are. I think it's partly how much money they invest in their group, buying MANY albums to go to fanmeets, lots of concerts and merch adds up, so the result is, they can only realistically stan one group... By contrast, I can like whatever songs I like, so Dreamcatcher and Momoland's hit songs don't bother me, I just like them! :)
People weren't angry because of her not liking the song. I personally don't like Egotistic much and it's fine.
The problem was saying "The more they release mainstream pop-y songs, the more likely the main series won't react to them". The term pop-y was what caused anger. Because 1) it sounds pejorative and 2) the channel has reacted to BP or RV (just taking groups whose songs are very pop) at the same time.
The thing she explained was: her friends are looking for adventurous tracks to react to, and we get it (I mean, they're musicians, of course they're looking for something more than common listeners). The formulation was just not it and they reacted to pop songs anyway, and that was upset people.
Umu said she formulated wrong at the beginning. That was because of this.
We're not that dumb. You have the right not to be into a song.

I'm a Moomoo who loves Mamamoo at all costs. I love their songs and everything. And I really hate when people say bad things about them without even knowing them. But I don't hate anyone for not liking their songs. Because it's not me who is missing this opportunity (jk😂).
I totally understand why you din't like Egotistic that much. You don't have to. It's not your personal taste, it's not what you expected, anyway... at no time you say anything bad about them or that you would not stan the girls any more. When you posted your reaction, everyone was still hyped by the comeback that they basically din't accept a different opinion to the song. Yes the girls ARE doing something different from what they usually do, and this may not please everyone. But is completely ok to not like everything that an artist produces, everyone has their ups and downs.
Anyway, I hope you continue the same, loving Mamamoo and your fandom, and please know that us moomoos are grateful for all the love, support and "promotions" you make of the girls on your channel 😆

Like my musical taste is very diverse. No matter the style, the genre, if it is of some artist that I like or not. If the music is good for me, I listen. but if it is not, I don't.

I was first introduced to Mamamoo by ya’ll. I accidentally caught a react by classical musicians video of Mamamoo and was stunned. Thank you so much. My favorite artists were George Strait, Hank Jr, Allison Krause, etc. Now Mamamoo is right in there. I am a lover of all music and Mamamoo is a gem of a group. I listen to them more then any other artists. Thank you. I do enjoy watching you strange people let us see music in different ways. Keep on keeping on.
The Yellow Flower one is more.. cohesive as a whole than Red Moon, but yeah i like this album too but I LOVE yellow flower

Fun fact: Selfish wasn’t going to be added in this album originally. It was supposed to be a different song completely but it didn’t get a good reaction from the company so they went with this. The song that was supposed to be added is Moonbyul’s other solo song called Mirror. She performed it during their concert along with Moon Movie.
Selfish was, tbh, a bit meh to me. As with mirror i was like AASDJFHDH I NEED THE STUDIO VERSION OF THIS ASAP... why :O

That is not true, selfish was originally going to be just b-side track for Red Moon, then Moonbyul/RBW decided to promote it as a solo (MB talked about this before), but you are right that Mirror didn't get the expected reaction, therefore she didn't promote it as a solo
11dmnsn wait nooo I remember moonbyul talking about it but from what I remember her saying was that selfish was going to be a digital single for her solo like Wheein but she wanted to do something different and suggested kinho kit.
Well that was partially true, Selfish was indeed going to be digital single like Wheein's but after having In My Room for byuldabang (as it was a good song) she decided to add it along with acoustic ver. for Love&Hate, and it was her idea to have Kinho kit for it...
But Selfish was originally a side track for Red Moon, and then they decided to promote it as a single for Moonbyul (Probably they were supposed to promote Mirror as a title track but as it didn't get great reaction/ wasn't strong as a title they went with Selfish instead)
When Kevin was talking about the album as a whole and how Selfish didn't fit with the trap right after trap track. To me, it's not suppose to fit. I mean, Selfish was already released as a single along with Moonbyul's Love and Hate (acoustic version) and a new track, In My Room. In My Room is my fav out of those, and there's a video for that too. So, again, I look at Selfish as sort of a bonus track in the album and not really a cohesive part of the album structure as a whole. I mean, how do you follow Sleep In The Car? That song is so hype!

Dear Umu, I think it is not the fact that you dislike a song, it's how you show your dislike. Sometimes you come off as very dismissive, and that might offend some people. Obviously it is a childish mindset to think everyone should have the same taste in music (or anything else for that matter), but it is just how human's emotions work I guess. People need confirmation and when you watch a reactor who is an "expert" in music and uses the words such as boring, uninteresting, copy pasting few times in a 10 minute video, it is also understandable why some people might feel hurt. I'm not trying to justify internet mobbing and bullying or those possessive fans who think everyone should just praise their favs. I think you have every right to like or dislike any song. There are many songs from the group I'm staning, that I skip almost all the time, also there are songs that I feel attach to, not necessarily because they fit my general music taste, but because I like the message of the song, or because I have some sort of emotional attachment to it for reasons beyond the music itself. Your channel is only about the music and a perspective of a classical musician and you should be truthful and honest to what you want. So don't be bothered by mean comments(although they suck, I am sorry you have to deal with them). I just wanted to give you this tiny suggestion that the way you express your critique can make a big difference in how it is perceived. and please please please don't stop saying mama umu the moomoo. Good points, however I like that she’s blunt about her opinions. A lot of reactors these days say they love everything they hear because it brings them more subscribers, but Umu stays true to her audience and it means that the songs she says she likes she really does like. I think the audience more than anything should understand that even though she’s a musician, what she says apart from facts like “that’s a C” are her opinions ( like “that’s a C, that’s really good”). I didn’t like how it looked when she was choosing her words carefully like she was walking on a minefield hahaha

Well that would be nice, but Love and Hate was only changed to acoustic version and already existed on a previous album in its original version. And they just reacted to Selfish. So, In My Room would be the only viable option, imo. But, I do love In My Room a lot!

It's really sad to me to watch about people bashing you just because you don't like Egotistic. I'm a new Moomoo though, knowing them from Starry Night era but I discovered them musically thanks to your Classical Musicians React. From all of the reaction video, I really think that your channel is one of the few TH-camr that gave us a very high quality reaction. It's very thorough, comprehensive, and enlighten, even though I'm not really understand music.
For you who has been support them when they are still considered "under-rated", I can understand why you don't really into Egotistic. I can understand your concern and views and we really appreciated your positive critics towards Mamamoo.

I like honest opinions and I value yours above any other channel that exist because you give reasons about what you said..I can disagree or have an overall different taste than you when it comes to some kind of music/songs, but is undoubtable that you explain things well and that you take the time to give us the full picture so I for one can learn new things at every given moment

For me it was like love at first sight, my FAV FROM THE ALBUM
weirdly sky! sky! has become my absolute favourite on this album, I just can´t get tired of it doesn´t matter how many times I listen to it!
In "Midnight Summer Dream": Kevin do really think that a song is very reggae because one instrument is playing a quasi, incomplete reggae riff for brief parts of the song? And that another short section at a different time has a bass line that is another "quasi-incomplete reggae motif"? Nothing in the rhythm section is reggae and the structure/progression isn't either. Now you did almost corrected yourself properly at the end of the reaction. This is a pop song with a bit of a Reggae style/ "influence" in some sections of the song. Again it's what K-pop does so well. It takes parts similar/or sometimes accurate parts from other genres and incorporates it with other styles. Most of the time!
So Selfish does have a common Bossa Nova rhythm playing through major sections of the song however again nothing in the rhythm section and if as Umu said; there no "jazzy' chords: So...again ??? Although BN does use Major 7th a lot; it is the chords played off of the major 7th that make the traditional chord structure. Commonly minor 7ths, 9ths and dominant 7's. And 13th sometimes (especially with dominant chords passing through diminished or 1/2 diminished ? 7ths? I think). I stopped playing trumpet/percussion ~40 years a go and I wasn't a strong chord guy!

Hi Umu! I feel so sad that you're afraid to share anything negative. We all really value your opinion and want to know what you think regardless of whether or not you liked the song. I don't think people were upset because you didn't like the song though. I think they were sad and confused about why you didn't seem very excited about their comeback and also the fact that you seemed to analyze it as if it were homework. I can understand the frustration of some moomoos, and they also have the right to express their disappointment. However, they should express their frustration in a more respectful way and elaborate their reasoning, not outright called Umu fake moomoo. You're not obligated to like every single song that Mamamoo releases (like I didn't vibe with Starry Night immediately but erhh) and saying you don't like this type of genre that they did or a song that they did doesn't invalidate you being a fan. AND even if Umu decided to stop being a fan why go drag her for it? People are allowed to change and grow and sometimes changing fandoms is part of that. Umu did a lot for the Moomoos and helped Mamamoo become a bit more known and we should be thanking her for it. Please, act mature and don't embarrass the rest of the fandom like that. All in all Umu I'm sorry for all the hell that you went through because of this while having to juggle school and moving. You deserved better
Could you make more explaining videos?
Maybe point to songs that are almost completely in one key? Play longer examples on the piano of one melody in various keys (for instance A, C and F) in major, than play the same in minor. Maybe some examples of what off key notes do and how switching keys sounds like.
For a noob like me it's incredibly hard to even focus on the instrumentals instead of vocals. So any help in having comparisons to find a key and notice changes would be great!

I think that the reason most people where mad was because of her reasoning behind not wanting to show the reactors the song (too pop'y, too mainstream, too plain), and then she goes and shows "Lo siento" and other really pop'y, mainstream, plain songs to the reactors anyway, it seems really hypocritical, like she got carried away in her dislike of the song and later then 'forgot' the reasons she did'nt like "Egotistical" and didn't apply it yo other songs 🤷
I mean sure, you don't have to like every song, but at least be consistent with your opinion.
Do you mean Lo Siento by Super Junior feat. Leslie Grace? Because if you do, I don't think it's mainstream and plain... It's literally a comeback with a Latin artist. It isn't mainstream for kpop. Yes, it might be for western music, but not for Kpop, I would say.
Kpop songs, that features another artist, that isn't a kpop artist, are really rare in my opinion (There might be some, but for me I don't think there aren't many good ones)
I think plain is definitely the wrong word for Lo Siento... Lo Siento is a song influenced by both Korean and Latin culture (I would say). Calling such a fusion plain is definitely not the best way to express the song
I'm pretty sure Umu showed them Lo Siento, because the others haven't reacted to many songs that feature both 'kpop music' and a different type of music (as for Lo Siento it's Latin)
And usually when kpop artists have comebacks that feature artist, that other artists literally gets like what? The chorus and some adlibs? As for Lo Siento Leslie got so many lines which was so surprising!

I love your analyses so very much and keep wishing you could hear Sonata Arctica and Nightwish songs also (Finnish symphonic heavy metal which uses dissonance and very long structures inspired from film scores). I believe the longest song is 13 mins long. (My Dream is But a Drop of Fuel for A Nightmare). I find both pop music scenes (Korean and Finland) approach sound in really interesting ways.
I believe the longest Nightwish' song is "The Greatest Show on Earth" which is 24 minutes long :)
