Thank you for this nostalgic video. I had been to Darjeeling as a child in this train around 1978. This wonderful steam locomotive that could pull 4 coaches then can now pull only two; Diesel locomotives are predominant now. The compartments then were crowded which showed the train as a preferred route. Now, people have less patience and go by faster SUVs. The toy trains, glorious as ever, still brings back those childhood memories. Amazing capture!

Seeing these old photos naturally adds sentiments to our ancestral land. This land legally and historically still belongs to Sikkim and if reunified the current cricis of identity is solved permanently. But it requires sacrifice by the political leaders towards their greediness pride fear selfishness so as to march towards honest reunification with Sikkim then change the name to Bharatiya Gorkhaland. But this demand has to be in the Parliament on a joint demand basis by the MPs of the region Sikkim and Darjeeling Kalimpong Dooars.

You are correct that this land historically belongs to Sikkim, and Sikkim historically belongs to the Tibetan Empire, and the original inhabitants of this land are Tibetans. The name Darjeeling is derived from the Tibetan word Dorjee. You might not like the outcome of the historical correction you are seeking.

Everybody knows Dirje+Ling the British pronounced it Darjeeling. Original inhabitants were all migrants Tibetans included and when the Gorkha King conquered Sikkim in 1779/80 The Gorkhas settled here in greater number and the Tibetans and Lepchas became minority population wise. The current population of the Gorkhas surpasses any other tribal numbers by vast majority although every indigenous tribes has equal rights especially after 1835 influx of the Gorkha Tribes as labourers because Tibetans and Lepchas don't really do laborious jobs.

Yes, probably one of the locomotives of DHR that ran between Siliguri and Kishanganj.
