As a heads up Sunderland weren't leading on the first leg with Lincoln, were 2-0 down after first leg. So only other League 1 experience leading in first leg was Portsmouth 1-0 which they didn't bottle second leg.

Its really not that difficult, this is hardly anything spectacular , look at good good videos for example they have tons of editing to do just for golf

I’m not a follower of either club, but it’s great to see 2 great old traditional clubs in a big game like this. Hope Sunderland win promotion and Wednesday can do the same next year. Far more passion in a game like this than the greedy league. Good luck to both for the future.

The fact that nearly 80K people watched two THIRD tier ties live (even though both were televised) speaks volumes about the passion and dedication of football supporters in England.
Happy for Sunderland but commiserations to Wendies, been to both grounds with my team Watford and (surprise!) seen us win every time. Both cities = great support, history and tradition.

I have great memories of Hillsborough. QPR won promotion from league 1 in the early 00’s with a 1-3 win. We filled the top and bottom tiers and the corner as well. Great old school stadium.

Great night, brilliant atmosphere, shame the allocation was so low for both sets of fans, as both travel in massive numbers. Full respect to Darren Moore, took defeat with class and dignity. Good luck Wednesday for next season.

As a Wednesday fan who was at the game last night, I’m gutted.
The way we played in the 1st leg, we looked lost and conceded a goal through shocking defence, and Sunderland were truly passionate.
But in the second leg, we showed passion and played a lot better.
Sunderland struggled to get into the game at first, relying on shithousery tactics like time wasting on throw-ins/goal kicks/corners, fouling, diving on fine tackles, and taking advantage of a shocking ref, but as the game went on, Sunderland started to rely less on shithousery and more on playing football, and we just slipped away and let the pressure get to us.
After Gregory’s Goal, our form just plummeted, while Sunderland’s just got better as the game rolled into stoppage time.
The extra 10 mins just burned out the players and the back line disintegrated as the black cats charged in and caught the owls off guard, slipping the ball through peacock-farrell’s legs.
Sunderland deserved the win, they were better across the two legs, but we were the better team for most of last night.
I hope they win promotion as they’ve been down longer than us, they truely deserve it.
It’s probably for the best Wednesday staying in league one for another season. It gives Moore a chance to bring in more talent across the two windows next season, we need wingers that can support Bannan and Byers up the pitch to the strikers, (the only good winger we have is Mendez-Laing, and he can only cover one side of the pitch in a match) and we need an improvement in the back line, as Hutchinson was diabolical in both legs and hasn’t performed up to expectations throughout the season.
If we bring in the right players, we’ll romp up to automatics, play offs again at the bare minimum.
Also, shame I didn’t see you guys below me. I was in grand stand right above you in the grandstand (you can see me in my Wednesday shirt whenever the camera is facing the stand)

What is it about people recently about "time wasting" as if it's something that never happened before ? Its happened for DECADES, and was no better in the 1960s than it is now. Only now, the media rant about it. BUT ONLY AGAINST CERTAIN TEAMS THEY WANT TO LOSE (ie Newcastle) when it's done by "their teams" (guess) then it's "sensibly running down the clock"

I miss sheff wed in the top flight, just were a top 8 team every season with great support when I was growing up.....like Sunderland just get huge crowds.

We’ve had more than our fair share of playoffs misery so we know what it feels like for Wednesday, hopefully we can get past Wycombe and finally get promoted and hope Wednesday and Pompey can do it next season. Got a bit of a soft spot for Pompey, my dad served in the navy so I grew up down there as a kid, when he retired we moved back to north east.

I recommend you to watch the relegation game between second and third Bundesliga. FC Kaiserslautern is a club with huge tradition and crazy fans against Dresden which have one of the hardest Ultra scenes in Germany. And the first game will be played at FCK with a crowd of 50.000.

As a Hull fan I well remember a SW fan 'informing' me we would be relegated from the PL after our Championship play off final win in 2016. Wish I could find him now and rub his nose in it after his team failed to even get into the L1 playoff final now! Oh, and Hull won the L1 title last season after only 1 season in L1!

Ref was poor, as they have been all season. From a sunderland point of view it was nice to see us play the bad guy for once, every team that comes to the sol wastes time and plays shithousery tactics so it was good that we were able to do that for parts of the game and play decent football at times too.
