This is pretty much accurate and a great assessment, and your research on history is second to none, there are a few I may possibly change but that would only be my opinion, excellent work well done 👏
Probably the first table ranking list I've seen that didn't rely on too much "recency bias." Most other TH-camrs and even so-called professional football pundits, often skew WAY too much towards recent memory of club's performances, rather than their traditional status within the respective English leagues. A very well-balanced list.
tbf I think it was a lot easier to win trophies back then because there were no “big6”. It’s so much harder to be successful in the last 20ish yrs and even maintaining top division football is a huge achievement. That’s why leicesters pl for example is massive. For me that’s more impressive than winning 2 top divisions in the 70s
Yeah, for real. Which is absolutely no slur on those clubs. Quite the opposite, it's a testament to how well their current ownerships are running those clubs. But they are playing "leagues" above their traditional ranking within the football pyramid. It will be interesting to see just how long they can continue to maintain that overachievement. History suggest, that once their ownership changes hands (whenever that will be), clubs who do overperform so much, quickly revert to type and recalibrate back to their traditional standing.
True, but history changes, what really limits a club is the size of the local population. I'm a Villa fan who moved to Bournemouth 15 years ago and back then you saw more Villa fans around here than Bournemouth fans, now every other bugger is wearing Bournemouth gear, they start building the new ground soon. With a metropolitan population of over half a million, half that again nearby and no local rivals this town could support a big club.
@@paulhanson5164 I'm sorry, but I do believe that Bournemouth is the kind of club which will be relegated before too long. Perhaps, within the next five seasons or so. I do not regard Bournemouth as an example of a club that could break the mould long term, to become a top club, when traditionally, it has never been. History is not something to be easily disregarded, as thoughout history, many many clubs have experienced periods of prosperity and austerity and success and disaster. And yet, it is still more-or-less the same main clubs who time and again, rise back to the top. Bournemouth have never been one of those clubs, so it would be a small miracle for them to buck the trend.

Pleased to see that Rovers make the cut, even if only just! I know we've been in a rut since 2010 thanks to our "esteemed" owners but, aside from the 70s, 80s & 99-01 we've been a First Division / PL club, & regularly attracted 50-60,000 fans in better days; not bad for a town that even now only has a population of 130,000 and many other clubs in the area. In that context, & given the recent mismanagement at the club, the crowds we get even now aren't too bad. We've only spent 3 seasons outside of the top two divisions, in our 149 year history. As founder members of the Football League & Premier League, the only founding club to have won both, the most successful town team in England and the only club to have won a major trophy in each of 1800s, 1900s & 2000s, we have a unique place in football history that should rightly put us in the top echelons in any such list.
Carlisle have spent 1 season in the first tier, 12 seasons in the second tier, 47 seasons in the third tier and 34 seasons in the four tier so they're definitely worthy of League 1
Southampton 11th in all time PL table. 30+yrs consecutive until relegation in 2005. Back-to-back promotions and 11yrs straight in PL from 2012-23. Won an FA Cup and been in plenty of cup finals and semis along the way, and now back in PL at first attempt this season. 30k through the turnstiles every week. Deservedly PL club.
We get disrespected so much, I see people saying Pompey are a 'proper' Premier league club, they've only been in the top league for about 5 years in the last 60.
Premier League: Spot on, except I’d replace Sheff Utd with Southampton Championship: Nearly spot on. I’d replace Watford, Millwall and Reading; with Brighton, Luton and Plymouth. League One: Nearly spot on. I’d replace Doncaster, Lincoln, Peterborough, Shrewsbury and Stockport; with Carlisle, Grimsby, Southend, Walsall, and controversially, Bury’s phoenix club. League Two: Replace Accrington, Barrow, Burton, Cheltenham, Crawley, MK, Morecambe, Stevenage, Wycombe; with Aldershot, Chester, Darlington, Halifax, Hereford, Scunthorpe, Torquay, York.
Always loved the channel, Ipswich prem, love it. UFEA cup, FA cup and champions of England in our history, with Bobby Robson and Alf Ramsey overseeing those trophies coming to Suffolk. Also never lost at home in Europe in 31 games and have welcomed the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Lazio, Real Madrid and Barcelona to Portman Road.
Sincere question ; when did you guys play Real Madrid and Barcalona - what were the circusmtances ? My club - Forest - played (and beat) Barcalona in the 1980 European SuperCup......but we have never had Real Madrid at the City Ground !!!
@@rjw4762 I’m just happy that it’s clear that we are the biggest team in the east of England. The yellow and green lots biggest achievement is they once beat Bayern Munich 😂
I would definitely have put Grimsby Town in League One rather than League Two. They do actually have previous top flight history, even though this ended just after WW2 in the late 1940s. They have also spent a fair amount of time in the 2nd tier, even though they have gone rather "stagnant" and even been non-league in recent times.
Great video and list. The bottom of the Prem and top of the Championship is very close I think between lots of teams. You have many teams who were historically very very big clubs like Wednesday and others who have been strong throughout their past like Stoke and Burnley and have been far better in the past couple of decades. Has anyone made a algorithm or system to calculate this? Obviously that would be still be subjective but would be a cool idea I think if you weighted different factors together, I'm sure someone has already done this though.
Hi Matt. Love your videos. Thank you for putting my home club, (Burnley F.C.) in the Championship. I must admit though, I'm gutted you have got our big rivals, (Blackburn Rovers,) above us in the Premier League. I do remember though, Burnley in the top flight came up against a southern league team in the 3rd round of the FA CUP in 1975. A lad that went by the name of Dickie Guy who played in goal for the Dons played a major part in their win against us. If my memory serves me right, Wimbledon made a draw against Leeds United, (0-0 at Elland Road), before going out in the replay getting beaten by Leeds. So Dickie! If you have read this, you may not have played for my club, Burnley, you are still one of my heroes.
Matt that's a fair shout & only one I would move up is Wigan for winning a major trophy & swap with Watford as they've never won a final even though they've been there same with Palace & Fulham too. But that's just me , but overall I have to say I would go along with your listing's too Matt 👍🏼
Burnley, founder member, twice champions of England, one FA Cup win, two runner up, two Charity Shields, played in the European Cup. I think you have that wrong. Also held the record for most unbeaten games in the top division until Arsenal beat it.
@@FlynnWho There's nothing wrong with that. What I meant was that all I was concerned about was Blackburn being put in the PL, and Burnley not. After that, I didn't care about the rest!
It's a perenially interesting question ; should the top division be for the best supported clubs or the most successful - and if the later, how far back do we go ? Pre-1960, the likes of Blackburn, Wolves, Huddersfield, Bolton and Burnley were very big hitters, for example. Since 1959, my club - Forest - has won 1 League Title, 1 FA CUp, 4 League Cups, 1 SuperCup and 2 European Cups - how many clubs can match that this past 65 years ? And yet, we spent 1999 to 2022 outside of the Top League. At various points, we have struggled to attract 20,000 fans through the styles (despite being well established in the top league !) - but right now we could fill a 40,000 Seater. I note that some are suggesting Middlesborough, Blackburn and Sheff United are worthy of Top Division Places....not in my book. Boro and Sheff U have never been Champions of England, have they ?? Derby could make a stronger case, perhaps......but haven't won anything for 49 years and havenet even reached a Cup Final for 76 years !!!!!!!!!
It seems logical to me to place teams with the most top flight seasons in the top tier as they've earnt it with their seasonal standings. Everton, Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Man City, Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea, Sunderland, West Brom, Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves, West Ham, Sheffield United, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City and Middlebrough. If it's the all time top flight points table, it's Liverpool. Arsenal, Everton, Man United, Villa, Man City, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Sunderland, West Brom, Blackburn, Bolton, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham, Derby, Sheffield United, Leeds and Burnley. I think it's a fair argument to say recent success should hold more relevance so I'd look to fit Leicester in there. Possibly in place of a team that hasn't seen top flight football for a fair time such as Middlesbrough, Wednesday or Derby. At the end of the day, as you say, it really depends what the question is. If it's what clubs belong there in 2024, then you can't look beyond this seasons group. If it's which clubs have the biggest fanbases, then different again but that seems like a misconceived interpretation to me. Same goes for teams with most silverware as success can be measured in more ways than one (such as having many more seasons playing at the elite level). I support none of these teams to be clear so this is just my impartial opinion.
@@lizardlenny ANother way of looking at it is ; who are the most FAMOUS clubs in England ? Ask a European football fan of the past 50 years and mention Nottingham Forest, and I suspect most will know of the club (if aged over 40, for sure).....would they know of Middlesborough or Sheffield clubs say ? Very unlikely indeed. I am totally biased, but to me Forest is one of England's great clubs - 1865 we were formed and we have set many records along the way including things like the first club to give a Referee a whistle....Arsenal wear Red because of Forest. I'd never try to say that Forest is a Top 10 club......but Top 20 ? Absolutely.
Saints would be prem like they were one of the 24 founders of the prem and they spent more time in the top flight than any other league from 1992-2005 then 2012-2023 then 2024-2025 so that’s more history in the prem than any other league
Although we don't have the longest list of league and cup honours, I think Walsall should always automatically be placed in League One as we currently have the most seasons played in the third tier out of all clubs in the pyramid.
My observation is that Blades, Owls and Ipswich are all premier league, as you said Ipswich won the Euro cup in 80/81, Derby County are similar size. Luton Town league one is spot on.
Derby County were in the European Cup one time and there were in the semi finals (the best team out of all of them) but juventus there opponents paid the ref and they lost
@@pokezod7832Without doing any additional research - Forest finished 3rd in Div 2 in 1977, thus getting promoted. The following season (1978) they won Division 1.
@@HungryDuck-bw2fr you are correct, I dont know where I read that but thats wrong, as both Forest(1978) and Everton(1932) have managed that. Still an amazing feat though, and one that might not be done again.

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Chelsea, Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Brom, West Ham, Wolves
You either have a good memory or have done some good research here, Salford City and Mk Dons are hard to place I agree. The Sheffield clubs top flight is a good shout, Coventry City Championship is fair. Bolton and Derby both on verge of premier league too. Accrington maybe could move up one for being founding members.
My perfect premier league would be Arsenal, City, United, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, qpr, wigan, norwich, middlesbrough, west brom, southampton, leeds, Everton, Newcastle, sunderland, swansea, bolton and blackburn
Personally my ideal Premier League would be Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford, Bradford PA, Barnsley, the 3 (no typo) Sheffields, Rotherham, Harrogate, Halifax, York, Hull, Guiseley, Brid, Brighouse Town, AFC Emley, Garforth Town, Liversedge FC, Ossett United, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Ponte Carlo Collieries. I will neither confirm nor deny any county-based biases, and yes it will need expanding back to 22.
The only thing I really disagree on is York City non league (I am not an York City fan). York spent from 1929 to 2004 in the football league and then again from 2012 to 2016. I personally would but Burton out (no direspect but there only football league for 15 years and where never before that in the football league).
Yeah it depends. If you count FC Halifax Town and the 2008 dissolved Halifax Town A.F.C. as the same club (which I would) defiently. If you say it's a new club then not. But I would also count them as the same beacause it's definetly meant to be that way although it don't officially count as the same club.
Matt SB Love your awesome video. Agree with vest. Changes for perfection. That's an excellent top 20 there, I might put Derby up there in place of, one of the Sheffield clubs maybe? However as you've put Ipswich in the Premier and Norwich in the Championship I've subscribed. ;)
About Tranmere Rovers, they have made it into the playoffs of the English 2nd tier three times. They could have played Liverpool in the top flight for the first time ever, but they failed in the playoffs on all three occasions.
I've seen dozens of videos "ranking the 92" or "which division every team should play". So far noone took time to make a research so I took some time to insult the most of them 😅. So far you did the best job I've seen so bravo! BUT I don't 100% agree with you so this is my opinion. Millwall can hardly be in the championship. Only 2 top flight appereances and 1 efl cup. Wimbledon and Notts County have 14 and 30 top flight appereances and 1 fa cup each. Easily bigger than Millwall. Now West Ham have played top flight 67 seasons and won 3 fa cups. Derby, Portsmouth, Burnley and Boro have 65,37, 60 and 61 years top flight and won 2,2,2,0 champions, 1,2,1,0 fa cups and 1efl cup and one european final for Boro. Also you could replace West Ham with Huddersfield ( 3 times champions one fa cup). Finally I don't know why you put Shrewsbury in league one. Chesterfield, Crewe and Grimsby easily bigger. Bravo once again for the nice video. Cheers!
I'd like to see the ultimate first five tiers tier-list, with Bury in league one and Torquay in league two. With a few adjustments in the first 3 tiers and by correcting someone noticeable mistakes in the bottom 2 you can perfect it. By the way I'm still researching. 😅
As a Shrewsbury fan, thanks for putting Shrewsbury in league one. Championship is impossible for us and it unfortunately seems like we’re playing league two next year.
Honestly, Shrewsbury was doing amazing in the 17/18 season. Idk what happened to them after that. Like, they drew 2-2 with Liverpool but then lost 1-0 at Anfield. And they also almost won the BSM Trophy and lost the league one playoff final, almost getting promoted to the championship. i wish we could have that Shrewsbury back.
I love your love for us Matt, but I think we’re one of the longest serving members of the Championship. Im 40 next year and in my lifetime we’ve been a 2nd tier team for a large majority of it.
As for Argyle I can’t argue with us in League One in the slightest. A lot of our fans would say Championship but we spent 13 years outside of it so that’s not right.
"Let's put Ipswich in the Prem" also "Let's put Boro in the Championship"... Also, Swansea spent a good while in the 4th division... and Bristol City most of the time in the 3rd Division, overall a lot of recency bias with a preference for some "I think" teams
Decent effort. Personally, I would swap Ipswich and Derby, Reading and Barnsley, and Mansfield with Walsall. Barnsley have played more 2nd tier games than anyone, and I believe Walsall have played more 3rd tier games than anyone else.
These are my predictions so far Stoke City - Prem Arsenal - Prem West Brom - Prem Aston Villa - Prem West Ham - Prem Wolves - Champ Brentford - Prem/Champ (mostly prem) Bournemouth - LG 2 The lion one (Non league) - NON/LEAGUE Bristol - Champ Brighton - LG1 Bolton - LG 1 BOSTON - Non League - finishing it off soon
Walsall have to be in league 1 it's an actual stat since the forming of the leagues the have had the most seasons in league 1 more than any other club in the country.
So according to you, Aldershot, Barnet and Halifax are all non league. Halifax spent more of their history in EFL than out of it. Record attendance is 36,000+, beaten Man United and Man City.
Perfect for the international break; nice one Matt.. For me based on age and fading memories: Arsenal Aston Villa Chelsea Derby (Brian & Pete) Everton Fulham Ipswich Town (Paul Mariner et al) Leeds Liverpool Manchester City (for Maine Rd greats like Dave Watson, Asa Hartford, Paul Power) Manchester United Newcastle United (just) Nottingham Forest Queens Park Rangers (el tels side) Sheffield Wednesday (Hirst, waddle & Walker) Southampton (Lawrie, Keegan, Channon) Sunderland (OBH & my mate🤷♂️) Tottenham Hotspur West Ham United Wolves If 22 Coventry City (Jimmy & John) Watford (Barnes & Fash) If 24 Bolton wanderers (World Cup winners) West Bromwich Albion / Stoke- both anti football so neither for me 🤷♂️although probably WBW for Cyril
I reckon the best indicator of the top 20 teams is the number of seasons they've played in Europe, as it takes into account league position and trophies won. So here is the list of the best 20 English clubs, certainly over the last 60 years or so, based on European qualification. I have not included Welsh teams qualifying for the Cup Winners Cup. 1. Liverpool (49) 2. Man Utd (47) 3. Arsenal (39) 4. Chelsea (32) 5. Tottenham (30) 6. Man City (24) 7. Leeds (18) 8. Aston Villa (17) 9. Everton (17) 10. Newcastle (17) 11. Ipswich Town (12) 12. Sheff Wed (4) Apart from these Fulham have been in three times but no other club more than twice.

@@WTyrahcaZ Hope so, pal. As a Man United fan, I'd love to see Robins guide Cov back to the prem. I think it'll be a challenging season for you guys, but we all know Robins loves a challenge.
@footballfanar9717 This year will be a challenge getting into the Prem. If the time comes that Coventry makes it up, then they are just going to have to hope on some good results. Coventry have had some recent good results against Prem teams. Yes, it is only a few games, but it's still a step in the right direction. 3-2 vs Wolves with a 100th minute winner. Narrowly losing to Man United on pens. Losing to Spurs because of two late goals. Coventry just need a little bit more stamina to hold on against the big clubs, and they might put up a decent fight to stay up.
Saints are 11th in the all time EPL table and have spent most of the last 60 years in the top flight. Also been in Europe a number of times and have produced players such as Shearer and Bale, and have had Keegan and Shilton play for them in their primes. I know I’m bias but I just feel like that should be enough to place Southampton as a top flight club. Yes we haven’t won loads but we are almost always there and we have a big following, especially compared to everyone else on the south coast.
Well as a Saints fan I think 45 years out the last 60 in the top flight gets you a place.... as for the Sheffield clubs for most of that time they have not been in the first division so to be they are championship - no cups either. WBA's heyday was a long time ago too.
WBA had a bad decade in the 1990s. They are around 11th in the league from inception and about the same for major trophies. So bottom half Premier League team. Newcastle haven't won anything for longer and Tottenham not much better either. WBA had a better trophy cabinet and overall league position than Chelsea until Abromovich bought them.
@@andy-wn1hq True - but also a long time ago - apart from the Owls 1991 League cup. Everything else was pre 1930, and they have not troubled the top flight much in my lifetime. If you want to go Back Back the Royal Engineers were pretty handy

2 European cups, 4 league cups, 2 fa cups, the Simod cup - haha, super cup, consistently in the top 6 of the top flight in the 70s,80s & 90s and one of the oldest most historic teams in England. Rest my case.
Probably a fair assessment of my team Pompey. Historically, pre 1960 we were massive with two league titles and we also held the FA Cup from 1939 to 1945 during the war. Post 1960 we have been up and down a bit although we won the FA Cup again in 2008 and reached the final in 2010 so Championship is probably right
West Ham is the 4th most successful London club and has more major trophies than all of those below them (I.e. Brentford, Charlton, Crystal Palace, Fulham, QPR, Leyton Orient, Millwall, etc,) put together. West Ham also have won more EUFA affiliated European trophies than Arsenal.
Best premier league in my opinion Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle, Aston villa, Everton, West ham, Forest, Leeds, Sunderland, Leicester, Norwich, Wolves, Blackburn, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Southampton. Please share your thoughts on this, please no one come hating on me
Putting Derby in the premier League because they've recently been in League 1 but Leeds who have only recently gotten back there after 20 years and Forest being back there in 30 odd years historically all 3 are massive and Derby, Leeds and Forest should all be prem including their complete history, but if you're saying 1 thing for another team you have to take it into account for others aswell

Not to mention the names of the players over the many years. And the football heritage through the academy.
We get disrespected so much, I see people saying Pompey are a 'proper' Premier league club, they've only been in the top league for about 5 years in the last 60.
Premier League: Spot on, except I’d replace Sheff Utd with Southampton
Championship: Nearly spot on. I’d replace Watford, Millwall and Reading; with Brighton, Luton and Plymouth.
League One: Nearly spot on. I’d replace Doncaster, Lincoln, Peterborough, Shrewsbury and Stockport; with Carlisle, Grimsby, Southend, Walsall, and controversially, Bury’s phoenix club.
League Two: Replace Accrington, Barrow, Burton, Cheltenham, Crawley, MK, Morecambe, Stevenage, Wycombe; with Aldershot, Chester, Darlington, Halifax, Hereford, Scunthorpe, Torquay, York.

Sincere question ; when did you guys play Real Madrid and Barcalona - what were the circusmtances ? My club - Forest - played (and beat) Barcalona in the 1980 European SuperCup......but we have never had Real Madrid at the City Ground !!!

Stoke haven't been strong in the past. One league cup in their history
Stoke City have spent most of their history in the top flight. Only recently they had ten unbroken years in the top flight .
First 42 seconds and already love this channel!
thanks Matt!
Actually looks spot on 💚

Keep up the good work fella 👏
Burnley, founder member, twice champions of England, one FA Cup win, two runner up, two Charity Shields, played in the European Cup. I think you have that wrong. Also held the record for most unbeaten games in the top division until Arsenal beat it.
Now you say it I think you are right. I wasn't aware of their history.
Very class list there - can’t argue with many of those rankings! And you’re right - keep an eye on Stockport County!
I stopped watching when you put Blackburn in the PL and Burnley in the Championship. That was good enough for me!😄
What’s wrong with that? Blackburn rover are more successful than Burnley in the premier league
@@FlynnWho There's nothing wrong with that. What I meant was that all I was concerned about was Blackburn being put in the PL, and Burnley not. After that, I didn't care about the rest!
@@sydnorth5868what’s wrong with that? Blackburn deserves to be there
It's a perenially interesting question ; should the top division be for the best supported clubs or the most successful - and if the later, how far back do we go ?
Absolutely.
I think you perfected it, across all divisions and clubs. Imagine if this happens some day
Saints would be prem like they were one of the 24 founders of the prem and they spent more time in the top flight than any other league from 1992-2005 then 2012-2023 then 2024-2025 so that’s more history in the prem than any other league
Yeah we’re like 11th all time pl points
Yeh but this is history. Not Prem. Prem is pretty recent in the grand scheme.
York were in the Football League from 1929-2004 and 2012-2016. They belong in League 2 at least smh.

Ipswich have also been the only team in english history to get promoted and win the top division in the season after.

I would say this is the perfect premier league. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Chelsea, Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Brom, West Ham, Wolves

Accrington maybe could move up one for being founding members.

Not hard to place for me, both are non league Imo
That's actually a really really good list, Decent knowledge and very fair. Although every person will probably have their own team higher lol
Not sure how York are a non league club and teams like Fleetwood are league 2 on history though even Burton
Middlesbrough is in Yorkshire, so you can kick out one of those tin pot ones Leeds or two of the Sheffield teams and put us in.

The only thing I really disagree on is York City non league (I am not an York City fan). York spent from 1929 to 2004 in the football league and then again from 2012 to 2016. I personally would but Burton out (no direspect but there only football league for 15 years and where never before that in the football league).
Also Halifax Town spent from 1921 - 1993 and then 1998 - 2002 in the football league.
Agreed, definitely move Burton down and also Crawley
Yeah it depends. If you count FC Halifax Town and the 2008 dissolved Halifax Town A.F.C. as the same club (which I would) defiently. If you say it's a new club then not. But I would also count them as the same beacause it's definetly meant to be that way although it don't officially count as the same club.
On reflection I'm happy enough with my top 3 division picks but I could potentially have York and FC Halifax in LG2

That's an excellent top 20 there, I might put Derby up there in place of, one of the Sheffield clubs maybe? However as you've put Ipswich in the Premier and Norwich in the Championship I've subscribed. ;)
that's really good
About Tranmere Rovers, they have made it into the playoffs of the English 2nd tier three times. They could have played Liverpool in the top flight for the first time ever, but they failed in the playoffs on all three occasions.
I think that’s a pretty good shout tbf.
Perfect to me. You have to really know your football history to appreciate this tho

Personally as a Bristol City fan, we haven't been doing good in the Championship and possibly get relegated
I love your love for us Matt, but I think we’re one of the longest serving members of the Championship.
Im 40 next year and in my lifetime we’ve been a 2nd tier team for a large majority of it.
you have quite a bit of history tho. i think thats what swings it for your club to be in the pl.
As for Argyle I can’t argue with us in League One in the slightest. A lot of our fans would say Championship but we spent 13 years outside of it so that’s not right.
Just to fact check Town won top flight 3 times in a row (1924-1926) aswell as an FA cup (even tho it’s in dinosaur years)
"Let's put Ipswich in the Prem" also "Let's put Boro in the Championship"... Also, Swansea spent a good while in the 4th division... and Bristol City most of the time in the 3rd Division, overall a lot of recency bias with a preference for some "I think" teams
I would have put barnsley in the championship on account of having the most second tier appearances of any club, otherwise great list
Plymouth Argyle have spent the majority of their seasons in the second tier. Odd decision on your behalf.
Decent effort. Personally, I would swap Ipswich and Derby, Reading and Barnsley, and Mansfield with Walsall. Barnsley have played more 2nd tier games than anyone, and I believe Walsall have played more 3rd tier games than anyone else.

Coventry have had some recent good results against Prem teams. Yes, it is only a few games, but it's still a step in the right direction. 3-2 vs Wolves with a 100th minute winner. Well as a Saints fan I think 45 years out the last 60 in the top flight gets you a place.... as for the Sheffield clubs for most of that time they have not been in the first division so to be they are championship - no cups either. WBA's heyday was a long time ago too.
Both Sheffield clubs have spent more seasons in the top flight of English football and both won more trophies than southampton.

WBA had a bad decade in the 1990s. They are around 11th in the league from inception and about the same for major trophies. So bottom half Premier League team.
