This method works GREAT! The difference between last years crop of tomatoes and this years crop is like night and day. All I did is follow these instructions and now I have a bumper crop of tomatoes. Thanks so much for posting this.

Definition: N-P-K refers to the ratio of important elements in a fertilizer or soil amendment. N stands for nitrogen, which is responsible for strong stem and foliage growth. This is my first year growing container tomatoes in patio pots! We're having a lot of rain in PA and concerned with overwatering & how it would effect my plants. Great vid and results. I fertilize with fish and Epsom every Friday and water the foliage with calcium nitrate every 10 days. Saw a vid that said you can't mix fish and Epsom together, that's a new one on me.
I used to live in Rosharon Tx, just south of Houston Tx. My soil was the normal Black Gumbo crap. I planted 60 tomato plants every year to feed around 8 families, I never used any additives into the soil, Nada. I would plow up 3 rows, plant the seeds, and set back and watch em grow. We got more beautiful Tomatoes then we could ever eat. I was able to bring 3 five gallon buckets almost every week, sometimes 6 or 7 buckets. And the natural soil was crap to say the least. Costs 3.00 for seeds, thats it.
You know, I dont know , when I first started planting the tomatoes, I only planted them because I really like Tomatoes, There was no TH-cam to help find how to do it successfully. My neighbor always planted a garden ever year, he didnt use any special additives to the soil or fertilizers, he just plowed it up with a old one man walk behind, and planted seeds and stuff grew. But he didnt plant tomatoes, so I decided to give it a try, I never used anything but the soil, and really didnt water it that much at all. Al tho this land was next to alot of farmers, they told me early on that the soil was totally depleted, and they said they only used it to stand the plants up, and they had to use alot of fertilizer on the 5,000 acres of what ever they were growing that year to even get a crop. That was 25 years ago in Texas, I now live in Florida with total sand. I plant my tomatoes in 5 gal pots with potting soil. So this year I have 24 different types growing right up, most at around 3 foot so far. I havent grown tomatoes in many years. So we will see how it works. I havent used any fertilizer, and have no idea what the PH level is, But they look really healthy and I have alot of tomatoes just starting to show themselves. Have no idea who to give them away to, maybe a food bank, I know I will be eating alot of tomatoes thats for sure :)
Tomatoes do not produce their fruits at surrounding air temperature above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In Houston, from my personal experience, the air temperature is above 90 from May till October. How possibly can you get tomato harvest in such excessive heat????

I’ve started planting my tomatoes & peppers in the Cactus Palm & Citrus soil sold in the orange bag. It costs a little more but I swear it works amazing for tomatoes & peppers.
I am trying a new cherry tomato from seed its called Chadwick tomato ordered from Bakers Creek Seed Co. ! Its suppose to be really prolific for Texas 100 temps. A second one is called Hartman Yellow Gooseberry tomato very prolific in 100 temps also. Found a lettuce called Jericho lettuce from Sustainable seed co. its grows very well in 100 temps also. I googled “transplanting tomatoes” and your videos came up. I just moved from Western Oregon to Wisconsin (big climate difference) and live in a condo with a patio. For the first time there’s enough heat and sun that I thought I’d try planting container tomatoes. Your videos are so helpful because you’ve taught me about the nutrients I need to add and shown me how to physically transplant them into larger containers, even if the fruit are already appearing. Hey Jeff - returned last week to Singapore from our trip back to the US. You may remember that I left my container tomato plants for 3 weeks here in Singapore, and they were only watered using a deep pot sort of cavity of water, watering method. Essentially a large void under the soil to store water with a few channels to the dirt to absorb the water up to the dirt, roots. I was concerned they would die. They didn't! In fact, they're perfect. However, I think it was literally at the very end of the water, and they were a bit wilted when we got in. So, it might have shocked the blooms a little, they have bounced back with some feeding and good watering and I see some fruit starting. I've also moved them to a sunnier patio. I've had to resort to manual pollination due to the fact that I'm 35 floors up, we don't have bees, and little wind. I use an old Sonicare toothbrush head on my toothbrush. It's literally 85-100 every single day here with night about 80. I see some fruit starting so I'm a bit excited as this was an experiment! It looks like you CAN grow container tomatoes in Singapore, and leave them for 3 weeks without watering (provided you have designed a watering system). ;) I'm going to use one of my plants as a "control" plant if you will and not manually pollinate to see if it produces. I appreciate your videos, thanks!
yeah tomatoes are pollinated by wind; if u put the back of the electric toothbrush head to the back of the fully open bloom, the pollen comes out of the male center and pollinates the female 'flower.' works like a dream.
All I've ever used is composted horse manure; compliments of my horses! Nothing else is used and every year is abundant. All my neighbors love my horses. :)
Wow, I never thought of that. Just wanted to grow some tomatoes but I think getting a horse or two not only will help my potted tomato plants (I’m in Manhattan, btw) but will take care of all of my parking woes as well. Thank you!

i like how you tell people about miracle grow... in the garden groups they try so hard to steer all the new gardeners to compost or manuers but pound for pound miracle grow produces just as much if not more..
You have motivated me to try container gardening. I just bought pre-potted plants (tomatoes and peppers) due to the late planting season here in Central TX. Thanks! Update: I have 7 plants in 1 gallon grow bags. Seedlings from Home Depot transplanted April 15th. I followed your instructions, also had a lot of rain in April and May. I have what appears to be chemical burns on a couple of the plants, a few tomatoes are smaller than golf balls at this time, but leaves are sickly yellow. I have both determinate and indeterminate types. The determinate are healthier. I'm wondering if Miracle grow only with a good potting soil work equally well. Also, with the hot weather, seems like the soil dries out quickly in these bags. I water the plants every day, but not a drip system. I also watered directly on the leaves once with the epsom salt. Update: 2 months later after following directions I ended up with small spindly tomato plants with fruit smaller than a ping pong ball, maybe 2 to 3 per plant. I did not buy the same type as described here, and purchased as seedlings from big box store with orange logo. My take is it is too hot to grow tomatoes in central Texas in the spring and summer. I read that they do not set or produce well if the temperatures reach over 95 F, and they certainly did, after the late April rains ended. The only thing I did different was to add some banana peel water once to add potassium, but I doubt that it had any detrimental effect. These are going to need cool, wet weather to grow. There you have it, I suppose.
Okay, so after these months, I have come to the conclusion that this was an experiment gone wrong. That's what happens when you try out stuff you see online. Oh well. I wasted a lot of money on these fertilizers and bags. Most of the plants (peppers and tomatoes) died due to the hot weather, even though I watered them Every Single Day. Several plants and all that came from them were some ping pong sized fruits, maybe 7 or 8 total, and 2 small peppers from 3 pepper plants. Black cloth bags are the worst. They get super hot, dry out the soil and there is no way to keep the soil moist during the dry months UNLESS you slow drip water them, as this guy does, though he downplays it to the point of barely mentioning it. I will use the fertilizers again, some day but next time I will use buckets or something similar, as I have in the past.
@@dennismason1187 I agree 100%. I did the same thing, here in So. Cal. Black grow bag, bought all the products, ect. Maybe a dozen golf ball size tomatoes. Big investment, small return.

Also I use a cheap battery tooth brush ******on the yellow blossoms. Every week. Like a bee lol As there are not many bees. In my yard. My larger tomato 4 oz tomatoes had 35 or 40 tomatoes U have a great. Video ( I use. miracle. Gro. Organic vegetable. Fertilizer. In black and yellow box ) Also the Epsom salts. Great tomatoes but a note. I am a farmer and on our forum we've had a long discussion on the effects of using chemicals. It's a tricky subject due to the hysterical nature of some folks who claim unsubstantiated health risks. But one thing we know is that MiracleGro (for example) harms the soil by reducing the organisms that make good soil. This is finessed by (you guesses it) constantly using MiracleGro which acts like a steroid. Instead of gaining nutrients from good soil, MiracleGro supplies a super food to plants. IMHO spreading rich compost on the ground on a routine basis is far better in the long run.. This provides nutrients and allows plants to grown normally. They may look nice but plants that produce hundreds of pounds of fruits is not normal and is only possible with hybrids. i have an heirloom section and while the taste is superior, the yield is consistently below hybrids.
Great. I'm not a hippy or Gaia type - just a regular guy. My neighbors spend fortunes on a range of artificial aids including $12-$16 bags of dirt!! They're applying fertilizer constantly and the results are good but artificial. Container growing is difficult here (heat dries out dirt) so this year I'm placing about 20 pots around the pool and letting the kids spray them with the hose. Actually, my best tomatoes come up on their own (reseeding). Due to the warm weather we had fresh tomatoes in November last year and all i did was add compost.
Wow!!! Your tomato plants are stars. They're just beautiful. I'v been watching videos since my tomatoes started showing signs of stress. Helps me from taking my gardening to seriously. This season my beautiful Impatiens are dying of powdery mold/mildew. Now ... I'm over attentive to my tomatoes. There's three planters on my balcony ... facing North ... only Sun after 4pm. There's tomatoes. Black Bottom ... Calcium Nitrate ... under control. Now ... the leaves aren't happy. Combination of facing up or facing down leaves. Going to do what you say ... thanks for sharing your tomatoes ... happy harvesting!!!
Nice Video, Some good advice. Your plants look great, But you could take more sucker leaves from your tomato plants after the fruit developes & the tomatos will rippen faster. Also the Azomite, Ted Papesh recommended is very good for your plants. I used everything you had mentioned in my Earth Grow boxes this year, But I also found HP Pro mix W/ Miccorhizea. I added this to my soil I already had along with some extra pearl lite. My added suppliments were, Epson salt, Azomite, Fish Bone meal, and Ammonium Calcium Nitrate, and a good amount of worm castings. Most of my tomato plants were a type of Capri tomatoes I started from seed. I live in Florida and just last week I took a rotten tomato & planted all of it's seeds, I've already started another round of tomato plants to plant into my boxes soon. So I'll get two seasons of growing since October this past year. One started in October & another started in March. Every tomato plant I had, had fifteen or more tomatoes on each plant. I have so many I'm sharing with the neighbors. With using the HP pro mix and the soil suppliments, I had the best results EVER!! I also planted some radishes in the new soil mix and they did great, My soil was to wet before & stayed that way for too long. Now with the added drainage of the extra pearl lite my plants are the best they've ever been. This is a little longer than most comments, But thought I'd share my success with you as well. Hey Jeff, I just purchased liquafeed but they don't recommend using without their sprayer. What is the proper dose for using without the sprayer? At 5:52 you say 1 tsp./gallon at 6:05 you say 1 TBSP./gallon. Thanks!

This is my first try at growing tomatoes, How can I tell there's enough Nitrogen? So far all so GOOD (this 5 weeks.) The plant leaf , blossom are great.the stalks are strong.

I love this vid it gives me such hope, last yr was my first yr living here in Houston and my tomatoes did horrible. This was also the first year I learned about tomatillos, being from New Orleans I had no idea what they were and I had plenty .My tomato of choice was of course the Creole tomato and I have grown them for many years back home with no problem . 2017 Spring Garden my fingers are crossed for a good harvest of tomatoes. I'm Northwest by the way any variety of tomato do you recommend in particular for my area? Imput from yourself or fellow subbies is def welcomed!
I have just started with some small tomato plants in self-watering pots on my deck. Do you recommend dissolving those three ingredients in a single gallon of water and watering each plant with that much water to dilute the solution? Is there any reason why you shouldn't give all ingredients in one watering? Are you given them all approximately every 2-3 weeks?

Jeff, thank you! I am so excited to have container gardens this year! I know all will be well thanks to your instruction! I have about 10 plastic containers from a feed store that were filled with corn for my squirrels. I'm so glad now that I kept them! ( containers, not the squirrels!) i've put drainage holes in the buckets and will soon be on my way! I'm in PA so I've got a little wait for the growing season, but warm weather will be here soon! John, Tomatoes do well before July in Fla or Texas. It gets too hot and humid for most variety past July. Peppers will do well in hot, humid environments. As you know, lots of rain causes problems with tomatoes and blight.
Hello Jeff, just wanted to let you know I am reviewing your container gardening information on tomatoes. I’m still in Corpus Christi and my tomato plants are horrible for this winter crop. So, I hope the grow bags and the soil ingredients and fertilizer you recommend work as good this time as before. Hope all is well with you up north.
If you drink it. Spoken like a true Californian. We all die of something. I've been using Miracle Grow for years on vegetables and flowers. Good luck with that.
There's no good scientific evidence that Round-up causes cancer. A couple of people got non-Hodgkin lymphoma while working with Round-up for many years. Juries awarded the large settlements but juries are not scientific bodies. A recent study showed that Roundup might increase the risk of NHL, but it's not by much. It showed that an average person's risk will go from 2% to 2.8%. This was a university study independent of Monsanto. The dose makes the poison and an average guy using Roundup in a home garden is at a VERY small risk.
Realy when I saw your tomato plant look so healthy I did nt remove sucker plus my tomato plant get tall about 15 ft tall amount of tomato us ok but one stem sucker free plus I use fermented juice great stuf thank a lotI do use all the ferlizer u mention
Wish you were more specific on the type of soil to use. I've been thinking of miracle grow organic potting mix, with egg shells crushed to a powder mixed in, maybe some other things you mentioned here. 🤷♀️its an experiment
Looking great! You sir have a good taste w/ tomatoes: Black Seaman is an excellent variety, and doesn't get too large. I grow all my toms in containers, and they do well on my balcony/patio. Some bone meal, chicken manure or horsepower, and they taste wonderful, for the most part. (Cold weather and rain do have their dampening effect, but even that cannot really spoil the results too much.)
I used grow bags last year .With great luck ! They were set on the patio and around the edge of the house honest to goodness they grew above the roof of the house. My husband had to get the ladder and get tomatoes off the roof. I planted tums antacid and 1/4 cup whole dry milk for calcium in each bag ad watered with compost tea.We have never grown tomatoes that tall and healthy . 1 story ranch house I did not want you to see something ridiculous in your mind. lol

Sometimes wasps lay their eggs on them (they look like they've been infected by parasites). Some people let those live and it's one of the beneficial things wasps do.

The moment I saw all those bags of chemicals I gave up. There are plenty of videos on youtube that remind us that well managed soils need zero inputs. Look at the videos by Elaine Ingham for example.
Fish bone meal a chemical? Are you daft? I feel like so many people fail to realize that plants metabolize chemical fertilizer... YOU ARE NOT INGESTING WHAT THE PLANT IS FERTILIZED WITH!!! The smell of your own farts is getting to you...
Lol, everything is a chemical. These were organic, so they are safe. Well managed soil means lots and LOTS of compost and organic material. Hardly anyone has that, especially in containers.
Question. How are you adding these 3 ingredients? Do you sprinkle the bone meal on the surface, then water with the Epsom salt water? Put all 3 in a watering can at the same time?
Jeff, several other TH-cam videos reccomend lime or gypsum as opposed to calcium nitrate. You reccomend the latter, why do you think this is better. The readon I ask this question is that I already bought a bag of lime and if you think the calcium nitrate is better, I need to return the bag of lime.
You would freak out if you seen my vegetables and fruit.. from tomatoes to cantaloupe to strawberries onion cabbage peaches plums great blueberries pears apples endless... And that's just for our household.. And family members that know when their favorite item ripens. Did I mention peaches,, figs grapes and blueberries

Tomatoes do not produce their fruits at surrounding air temperature above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In Houston, from my personal experience, the air temperature is above 90 from May till October. How possibly can you get tomato harvest in such excessive heat????

I’ve started planting my tomatoes & peppers in the Cactus Palm & Citrus soil sold in the orange bag. It costs a little more but I swear it works amazing for tomatoes & peppers.

I am trying a new cherry tomato from seed its called Chadwick tomato ordered from Bakers Creek Seed Co. ! Its suppose to be really prolific for Texas 100 temps. A second one is called Hartman Yellow Gooseberry tomato very prolific in 100 temps also. Found a lettuce called Jericho lettuce from Sustainable seed co. its grows very well in 100 temps also. I googled “transplanting tomatoes” and your videos came up. I just moved from Western Oregon to Wisconsin (big climate difference) and live in a condo with a patio. For the first time there’s enough heat and sun that I thought I’d try planting container tomatoes. Your videos are so helpful because you’ve taught me about the nutrients I need to add and shown me how to physically transplant them into larger containers, even if the fruit are already appearing. Hey Jeff - returned last week to Singapore from our trip back to the US. You may remember that I left my container tomato plants for 3 weeks here in Singapore, and they were only watered using a deep pot sort of cavity of water, watering method. Essentially a large void under the soil to store water with a few channels to the dirt to absorb the water up to the dirt, roots. I was concerned they would die. They didn't! In fact, they're perfect. However, I think it was literally at the very end of the water, and they were a bit wilted when we got in. So, it might have shocked the blooms a little, they have bounced back with some feeding and good watering and I see some fruit starting. I've also moved them to a sunnier patio.
I've had to resort to manual pollination due to the fact that I'm 35 floors up, we don't have bees, and little wind. I use an old Sonicare toothbrush head on my toothbrush.
It's literally 85-100 every single day here with night about 80. I see some fruit starting so I'm a bit excited as this was an experiment! It looks like you CAN grow container tomatoes in Singapore, and leave them for 3 weeks without watering (provided you have designed a watering system). ;) I'm going to use one of my plants as a "control" plant if you will and not manually pollinate to see if it produces. I appreciate your videos, thanks!

yeah tomatoes are pollinated by wind; if u put the back of the electric toothbrush head to the back of the fully open bloom, the pollen comes out of the male center and pollinates the female 'flower.' works like a dream.

All I've ever used is composted horse manure; compliments of my horses! Nothing else is used and every year is abundant. All my neighbors love my horses. :)

You have motivated me to try container gardening. I just bought pre-potted plants (tomatoes and peppers) due to the late planting season here in Central TX. Thanks! Update: I have 7 plants in 1 gallon grow bags. Seedlings from Home Depot transplanted April 15th. I followed your instructions, also had a lot of rain in April and May. I have what appears to be chemical burns on a couple of the plants, a few tomatoes are smaller than golf balls at this time, but leaves are sickly yellow. I have both determinate and indeterminate types. The determinate are healthier. I'm wondering if Miracle grow only with a good potting soil work equally well. Also, with the hot weather, seems like the soil dries out quickly in these bags. I water the plants every day, but not a drip system. I also watered directly on the leaves once with the epsom salt. Update: 2 months later after following directions I ended up with small spindly tomato plants with fruit smaller than a ping pong ball, maybe 2 to 3 per plant. I did not buy the same type as described here, and purchased as seedlings from big box store with orange logo. My take is it is too hot to grow tomatoes in central Texas in the spring and summer. I read that they do not set or produce well if the temperatures reach over 95 F, and they certainly did, after the late April rains ended. The only thing I did different was to add some banana peel water once to add potassium, but I doubt that it had any detrimental effect. These are going to need cool, wet weather to grow. There you have it, I suppose.

7 plants in one container??
Okay, so after these months, I have come to the conclusion that this was an experiment gone wrong. That's what happens when you try out stuff you see online. Oh well. I wasted a lot of money on these fertilizers and bags. Most of the plants (peppers and tomatoes) died due to the hot weather, even though I watered them Every Single Day. Several plants and all that came from them were some ping pong sized fruits, maybe 7 or 8 total, and 2 small peppers from 3 pepper plants. Black cloth bags are the worst. They get super hot, dry out the soil and there is no way to keep the soil moist during the dry months UNLESS you slow drip water them, as this guy does, though he downplays it to the point of barely mentioning it. I will use the fertilizers again, some day but next time I will use buckets or something similar, as I have in the past.
@@dennismason1187 I agree 100%. I did the same thing, here in So. Cal. Black grow bag, bought all the products, ect. Maybe a dozen golf ball size tomatoes. Big investment, small return.

Great tomatoes but a note. I am a farmer and on our forum we've had a long discussion on the effects of using chemicals. It's a tricky subject due to the hysterical nature of some folks who claim unsubstantiated health risks. But one thing we know is that MiracleGro (for example) harms the soil by reducing the organisms that make good soil.
This is finessed by (you guesses it) constantly using MiracleGro which acts like a steroid. Instead of gaining nutrients from good soil, MiracleGro supplies a super food to plants. IMHO spreading rich compost on the ground on a routine basis is far better in the long run.. This provides nutrients and allows plants to grown normally.
They may look nice but plants that produce hundreds of pounds of fruits is not normal and is only possible with hybrids. i have an heirloom section and while the taste is superior, the yield is consistently below hybrids.

Great. I'm not a hippy or Gaia type - just a regular guy. My neighbors spend fortunes on a range of artificial aids including $12-$16 bags of dirt!! They're applying fertilizer constantly and the results are good but artificial. Container growing is difficult here (heat dries out dirt) so this year I'm placing about 20 pots around the pool and letting the kids spray them with the hose.
Actually, my best tomatoes come up on their own (reseeding). Due to the warm weather we had fresh tomatoes in November last year and all i did was add compost.

Wow!!! Your tomato plants are stars. They're just beautiful. I'v been watching videos since my tomatoes started showing signs of stress. Helps me from taking my gardening to seriously. This season my beautiful Impatiens are dying of powdery mold/mildew. Now ... I'm over attentive to my tomatoes. There's three planters on my balcony ... facing North ... only Sun after 4pm. There's tomatoes. Black Bottom ... Calcium Nitrate ... under control. Now ... the leaves aren't happy. Combination of facing up or facing down leaves. Going to do what you say ... thanks for sharing your tomatoes ... happy harvesting!!!

Nice Video, Some good advice. Your plants look great, But you could take more sucker leaves from your tomato plants after the fruit developes & the tomatos will rippen faster. Also the Azomite, Ted Papesh recommended is very good for your plants. I used everything you had mentioned in my Earth Grow boxes this year, But I also found HP Pro mix W/ Miccorhizea. I added this to my soil I already had along with some extra pearl lite. My added suppliments were, Epson salt, Azomite, Fish Bone meal, and Ammonium Calcium Nitrate, and a good amount of worm castings. Most of my tomato plants were a type of Capri tomatoes I started from seed. I live in Florida and just last week I took a rotten tomato & planted all of it's seeds, I've already started another round of tomato plants to plant into my boxes soon. So I'll get two seasons of growing since October this past year. One started in October & another started in March. Every tomato plant I had, had fifteen or more tomatoes on each plant. I have so many I'm sharing with the neighbors. With using the HP pro mix and the soil suppliments, I had the best results EVER!! I also planted some radishes in the new soil mix and they did great, My soil was to wet before & stayed that way for too long. Now with the added drainage of the extra pearl lite my plants are the best they've ever been. This is a little longer than most comments, But thought I'd share my success with you as well. Hey Jeff, I just purchased liquafeed but they don't recommend using without their sprayer. What is the proper dose for using without the sprayer? At 5:52 you say 1 tsp./gallon at 6:05 you say 1 TBSP./gallon. Thanks!
Go with 1 tablespoon per gallon and use every 2-3 weeks for a root drench. That will be fine.

+Ann Martin - that means you should have enough N. Most planting mix has enough for the first 4-6 weeks.
Your leaves will tell you. If they begin to get light, droopy, and possibly browned....they may need more calcium and magnesia.
I must admit that I am in awe of ur garden. The trellis behind u is so lush. The greenery is overwhelming.
I envy u. I'm currently in a rental and I can't wait to set up my permanent garden.

I love this vid it gives me such hope, last yr was my first yr living here in Houston and my tomatoes did horrible. This was also the first year I learned about tomatillos, being from New Orleans I had no idea what they were and I had plenty .My tomato of choice was of course the Creole tomato and I have grown them for many years back home with no problem . 2017 Spring Garden my fingers are crossed for a good harvest of tomatoes. I'm Northwest by the way any variety of tomato do you recommend in particular for my area? Imput from yourself or fellow subbies is def welcomed!

I have just started with some small tomato plants in self-watering pots on my deck. Do you recommend dissolving those three ingredients in a single gallon of water and watering each plant with that much water to dilute the solution? Is there any reason why you shouldn't give all ingredients in one watering? Are you given them all approximately every 2-3 weeks?

I have about 10 plastic containers from a feed store that were filled with corn for my squirrels. I'm so glad now that I kept them! ( containers, not the squirrels!) i've put drainage holes in the buckets and will soon be on my way! I'm in PA so I've got a little wait for the growing season, but warm weather will be here soon! John, Tomatoes do well before July in Fla or Texas. It gets too hot and humid for most variety past July. Peppers will do well in hot, humid environments. As you know, lots of rain causes problems with tomatoes and blight.

Hello Jeff, just wanted to let you know I am reviewing your container gardening information on tomatoes. I’m still in Corpus Christi and my tomato plants are horrible for this winter crop. So, I hope the grow bags and the soil ingredients and fertilizer you recommend work as good this time as before. Hope all is well with you up north.
I quit anything that's Miracle Gro brand when I found out that Monsanto owned it. Monsanto doesn't mind poisoning people.
If you drink it. Spoken like a true Californian. We all die of something. I've been using Miracle Grow for years on vegetables and flowers. Good luck with that.
There's no good scientific evidence that Round-up causes cancer. A couple of people got non-Hodgkin lymphoma while working with Round-up for many years. Juries awarded the large settlements but juries are not scientific bodies.
A recent study showed that Roundup might increase the risk of NHL, but it's not by much. It showed that an average person's risk will go from 2% to 2.8%. This was a university study independent of Monsanto. The dose makes the poison and an average guy using Roundup in a home garden is at a VERY small risk.
My beautiful border collie got lymphoma. Never ever use roundup or any poison on the earth, hello - it does cause cancer,
Realy when I saw your tomato plant look so healthy I did nt remove sucker plus my tomato plant get tall about 15 ft tall amount of tomato us ok but one stem sucker free plus I use fermented juice great stuf thank a lotI do use all the ferlizer u mention
Wish you were more specific on the type of soil to use. I've been thinking of miracle grow organic potting mix, with egg shells crushed to a powder mixed in, maybe some other things you mentioned here. 🤷♀️its an experiment
A great mix to use is 2/5th peatmoss, 1/5th perlite, 1/5th topsoil, and 1/5th cow manure. I like to also add worm castings if i find any.
I do it every yr and side dress with fish emulsion. They do very very well with added peat moss. 2 cups per 5 gallon pot

Looking great! You sir have a good taste w/ tomatoes: Black Seaman is an excellent variety, and doesn't get too large. I grow all my toms in containers, and they do well on my balcony/patio. Some bone meal, chicken manure or horsepower, and they taste wonderful, for the most part. (Cold weather and rain do have their dampening effect, but even that cannot really spoil the results too much.)
I love the Black Seaman tomato flavor. With all this rain in Texas this year, it has impacted the flavor tremendously.
Finally found someone in Houston area who has experience. I tried 16 years ago and the blossoms fell off or the birds got them.
I used grow bags last year .With great luck ! They were set on the patio and around the edge of the house honest to goodness they grew above the roof of the house. My husband had to get the ladder and get tomatoes off the roof. I planted tums antacid and 1/4 cup whole dry milk for calcium in each bag ad watered with compost tea.We have never grown tomatoes that tall and healthy . 1 story ranch house I did not want you to see something ridiculous in your mind. lol

Buy a black light flashlight and shine it on your plants at night. The horn worms glow like a glow stick under the black light
When I first plant my tomatoes I stick toothpicks in the soil right around the base of the tomato plant. The worm can't wrap himself around the plant.
Sometimes wasps lay their eggs on them (they look like they've been infected by parasites). Some people let those live and it's one of the beneficial things wasps do.

The moment I saw all those bags of chemicals I gave up. There are plenty of videos on youtube that remind us that well managed soils need zero inputs. Look at the videos by Elaine Ingham for example.

Lol, everything is a chemical. These were organic, so they are safe. Well managed soil means lots and LOTS of compost and organic material. Hardly anyone has that, especially in containers.
Question. How are you adding these 3 ingredients? Do you sprinkle the bone meal on the surface, then water with the Epsom salt water? Put all 3 in a watering can at the same time?

Jeff, several other TH-cam videos reccomend lime or gypsum as opposed to calcium nitrate. You reccomend the latter, why do you think this is better. The readon I ask this question is that I already bought a bag of lime and if you think the calcium nitrate is better, I need to return the bag of lime.

An abundant crop can also be canned and dehydrated. Something to think about with the recent supermarket shortages.
