One plays drums and other guitar and dad is classical singer and bass player and I’m musical theatre and classical singer. Both my parents classical trained too. We have a massive range of music genres playing a lot including musicals. I introduced to their their first professional theatre experience at age 8.5yrs to School of Rock then Charlie & Choc factory. Stuff they could related too. Also try when possible to take them to local productions of relatable stuff. Their school also does a musical alternative years. And they trained on singing with top Australia boys choir last year anc now does youth Broadway chorus. And one sings school choir. So my boys loving Hamilton didn’t just happen. It was introducing this type of music and genre over years n years. And I needed to explain the history to them as we are Aussie not American. Once they got a basic understanding they loved it much more. I hope you introduce musicals to your kids and performing arts. It’s great for them as it requires using both sides brain at once, they can be creative, physical, great for self confidence and a safe space for friendship. But what will help is if you passionate about it too. Listen to musicals from Matilda to school of Rock to Charlie to Hamilton in the car. And in the example of Hamilton it’s a great example of different musical genres rolled into one plus use of English language and how events can be interpreted. And finding little pieces of info that your kids might find interesting about the show. Example: I showed my drumming twin a YT clip of them showing all the different drums. And right now he’s trying to learning my shot by ear now he’s watched the drummer play it. My other twin is mildly deaf. So talking to him about Alex Lacimore and how he’s partially deaf too. I still perform where possible in operetta. I’ve done everything from stage managed, set design n staging, performing, and directing and choreography. I even met my hubby 20yrs ago doing theatre and most our friends. So in one way I guess it’s in their blood. Cheers from down under!

Some never liked rap. Some never liked Broadway musicals, and a lot never liked history, but a little serendipity and a lot of talent in the form of a New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent gave us all an opportunity to learn.
