  • Climate protesters blocked a road leading to the Burning Man Festival in the US state of Nevada, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“The Nevada Police turned up and have a look at how they dealt with it,” Mr Kenny said.

This story is being reported FUNDAMENTALLY INCORRECTLY. These are not Nevada police. These are Pyramid Lake American Indian Reservation Rangers (police). The laws on their land are exceptionally different. Significantly more so than how US States differ. It is genuinely closer to having another country within the United States.

@@tritontransportWhile I agree mostly on your points, sometimes doing things the legal way isn't enough. America was founded on criminals doing illegal things to protest British rule. A revolution isn't legal, but it is sometimes moral and necessary. A protest that doesn't break any laws is ineffectual and cowardly. Frankly, I find the cause of stopping big oil more important than a bunch of burners who need to get high. As a burner myself I can tell you, I can get high and listen to music in my car just as easily. I agree that the trooper was very much right to destroy the blockade like they did, but I also think that breaking the stranglehold oil companies have on our government is more important than people going to the desert to take psychedelics and burn a giant effigy.
Just some food for thought. What is more important to humanity? Making sure we don't make the world uninhabitable to humans, or making sure some hippies can get incredibly high?

Handcuffing yourself to things is a time-honored protest strategy, but typically it would be something you didn't want disturbed. Or, like, the entrance to a chemical weapons factory or some shit. And you'd absolutely expect to be removed, roughed up, and arrested. Using that technique to create a traffic jam at the entrance to a festival is just pure scenester petulance.

Think of a restaurant sit in, they were taking up space in that business and patrons wouldn't come in, hurting said business and making a patrons day harder. Then why did they build a race track in the middle of the city? Isn’t that impeding traffic? State policy or none constitutional laws should not be permitted in any state. Blocking the road or roads isn’t practical but if they block traffic themselves well then the mirror works both ways. It appears that Nevada just tries to bully its self around. Reason I say this is because they block the streets all the time not sure where their merit of doing so makes it ok for them but not for you?

The cops blocking a road and protestors blocking the road are very different things. When cops do it, which they rarely do to begin with; it's usually for safety due to an incident, construction, or an accident. Yea there are occasional DUI checks but anyone who knows their rights/laws and has an attorney can bypass that easily. I have to agree with the law enforcement on this, I think maybe talking to them before ramming their stuff would have been ideal (based off further research it seems law enforcement did), sometimes you've gotta send a message that sticks.

Then they complain the cops can’t do anything, when they are the ones that made it so the cops can’t do anything. Then when nothing changes because the laws were passed and no one wants to pass other laws, they move. Then they pass the same crap in the states they move to, and then wondering why the cops don’t do anything. In Nevada temperatures can reach well over 110 degrees Fahrenheit or more in the summer.
