If you wanted to stay with Airstream, it seems like a Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk would work. You could simply remove the bottom bunk and use the space. I don't know...
Any choice is an individual choice: a 5th wheel will give you the most room. Your 30ft classic will do nice for quite a few years( ask Nathan and Marrisha of less junk more journey). In the end no one can make the choice; it's up to you! Hope you enjoyed yourself, stay safe.
Kurt, you are spot on sir! Even after spending the last two weeks asking people, and even Nathan and Marissa, it all comes down to personal choice! We like small and minimalistic living, so the huge rigs - while super nice - are just too much for us. We like simple. We hope you’re having a wonderful week!!! L+D
@@Wanderlocal Having come from a fifth wheel. Remember to watch less junk more journeys repairs to their rigs. I can tell you I will not go back to anything else but an airstream. Remember what ever you decide that other units off gas vs. Airstreams. Some of the fifth wheels front caps are flexing after so many miles and then leaking. We have an airstream but we want to go bigger to the flying cloud 30 bunk. I recommend that you might look into that. Two bunks like keep your daydream Mark and Tricia have. In the end its all your choice but the rv commumity wants to help you. NO slides is better. Also look up the safety ratings on a class A vs your truck with the baby. safety in the drivables is pretty much non existant. a Good luck in your decision and congratulations.
The more bells and whistles, the more to go wrong. Also you definitely want something where you can access the refrigerator and bathroom with the slideouts in. Very important while going down the road.
My suggestion - stick to your Airstream, or swap for a larger model or one with a different floor plan that suits your pending new arrival. Airstream is one of only a few RV manufacturers with no formaldehyde off gassing from its interior fittings (cabinetry, carpets, walls etc.). Have a look online at the serious health issues with RVs and formaldehyde off gassing and you’ll appreciate my concern. Could not be good for a young baby (nor for pets but that’s a different story). Also, the level flooring in an Airstream is so much more safer for crawling or not so steady walking toddlers, unlike those multi-level 5th wheels. Congrats to you both!

My wife and I have owned everything from a 1976 class C, travel trailer, fifth wheel, and now our 35’ class A. So far our Class A has been great for our family of 5. It has bunks for my oldest boys (5 and 3) and an area for the crib for our 1 yo. Traveling is way easier now and we boondock so often, so to have everything all included in the class A has made it the best for for us so far.
You have a great towing vehicle already, pick a good quality large travel trailer that is accessible inside with slides closed, so on travel days, stop every 2 hours to take care of the baby, a few trailer's you can't even get to a bathroom or kitchen with slides closed, choose wisely...5th wheels suck to move around.... take care and all the best to you guys... happy times ahead
Stay with your Airstream we were sold a fifth wheel that came with a generator which sounded awesome but they failed to include the exhaust we boon docked several times whenever the carbon monoxide detectors would go off we had no idea why! It’s so sad they just wanted to sell us a unit without giving us a proper walk through surely someone should’ve noticed it didn’t have an exhaust. And we were such newbies we didn’t even know that our lives were at risk. This was summer of 2020
Michelle, oh my! 😬This is a scary one. Thanks for sharing your experience. As much as we love sharing our experiences online, we love hearing about others experiences as well! We all learn together. 🙏 L+D
With all due respect, whether someone spends $50k or $150k, they should NEVER - I mean NEVER - have to acquiesce to poor quality or negligent workmanship when the money comes from their own bank account. Please, as a community, we should not accept the price difference between rigs as THE reason why basic screws, bolts, et.al, are missing. Imagine if you were buying a Chevy Tahoe vs an Escalade and your Tahoe was missing important pieces and parts, like screws to keep the dashboard in place?? That would be unacceptable to you as the buyer and should be embarrassing to the salesperson. We have to do better!
We, too, own an Airstream and love the quality. Maybe you should consider either the Airstream model that has the bunks in back. You could remove the bunks for now and make a dedicated baby space. Later, the bunks would accommodate two kids.
Airstream did make RVs in the late 90s and the early 2000s with slide outs. Those models were: Airstream Classic Limited 30’/34’ Slide-Out Travel Trailer Airstream Safari Slide-Out 28’ Travel Trailer Then there is the Atlas Touring Coach with a power slide out that was just recently unveiled by Airstream. I got this online from an article called... "Do airstream trailers have slide outs?" Maybe locating one of those older airstreams with slide-outs as a possibility? I hope this was helpful. I love your videos and I'll be praying for your family.
It’s kind of hard to match the feel and quality of the Airstream. That said, I always thought that if I gave up my AS it would be for a higher end Class A very similar to what you guys looked at. I think for $300 grand you do get a very nice complete package. It would be more choice. Stay safe guys!

Joanne, that's a good idea! We haven't been able to find one of these new layouts to check out in person but we're hoping we'll be able to see one while we're here in Florida! L+D
MomtoZnE - that's a great idea. We're hoping to check out an Airstream with a bunk while we're here in Florida. As you know, all Airstreams can be hard to find these days - especially, the units with something different i.e.: Pottery Barn, the version with an office, and this one with a bunk. L+D
You know how those bath and a half units work don't you? She gets the full bath and you get the half bath and she lets you take a shower in her bathroom! LOL! Love the video and have followed Matt for a while now. Be blessed!
One other point: you went full-time RV-ing to be together more, right? You will want the same when you have children. An Airstream will allow you to be together whereas a big 40 foot long rig with multiple floor levels won't be much different than being in separate rooms of a split level home. An Airstream with a bunk space will likely be a great option for you.
You need a residential Fridge!!! And if y'all are going to do the 5th wheel, you will need a f350. Pin weight on a 5th is heavy We have one (check my profile pic) but put the North point 377 on your list to walk through.
My sister and brother-in-law have a Jayco with two slides and in the first year they had 11 repairs that had to be done and 4 of those were issues with the slide outs. One of the issues which required being repaired twice was problem with the washer/dryer combo.
I may be partial. But we have a Jayco 242BHS at the moment. We love it, granted we don’t full time in our RV. I like the fifth wheels, but honestly they are too much. I’m not talking about the price either. I actually had this conversation with Corey from Finding our Someday, and we have the same thoughts on it. They are big and nice, but you lose storage in the bed and some of the campgrounds would be hard to get into with a fifth wheel. You have to constantly watch over head and not just over passes, I’m talking trees, power lines, and signs. I’m not bad mouthing fifth wheels, just letting you know some things Matt may have forgotten to tell you. You may want to talk with Corey I know they are down there and tell them Matt from Tobacco Barn Craftsman said hello! BTW we love Matt’s Rv Review!!

Side winds on a Long TT will have you white knuckling. Yes that would mean an upgrade on the truck. If you like a tight firm tow; a 5th wheel is a better choice over 28ft. Yes an Airstream is great but tight for a family.
Matt there is no comparison between gas & diesel, that gas engine is just like a car when it gets a hundred thousand miles on it. The value drops like a rock in water with gas compared to diesel.
Nathan, we agree that Diesel is always the way to go. Gas ~ 100k miles, Diesel ~ hundreds of thousands of miles, easy. When shopping for a truck we knew right away that we were going with a diesel. L+D
@@Wanderlocal I’ve been watching you two I think since you started and just love all the positive vibes. I’ve been doing this a while and I promise you there is no perfect rig but there are lots of things you can do to avoid most mistakes. Go slow and talk to lots of people.

Don't be offended, your video is awesome. However, I'm one of those that has a 1976 shasta 19 ft. Hearing people vocalize how modern stuff is entry level really stings a little
No worries at all! We appreciate you and your feedback - always! One of the things we didn't mention at all in this video is actually buying a classic RV and remodeling it to fit our baby needs. We may end up just keeping what we have, but we're always open-minded and love seeing what's out there! We always tell people that if you're living that RVLife, you're already winning. 🥰We have nothing but love for you, friend. ❤️Lauren + Daniel
James, that is a GREAT point! There's still so much about parenting that we still need to learn - including where we're going to be changing diapers. We'll have to ask around about those special manufacturer seats, or at least the brackets made for seats. We know with the F-250 there's two mounts on either side of the backseat, but with something like a Class A we're not too sure. L+D
When you change the diaper remember to stand downwind and that class A I think you can could change that bottom bunk to s baby bed have you guys decided who get to change the diaper and feed the baby ever two hours yeti
No offense… but you chose an Airstream for a reason. After watching so many RV videos, before buying our first one, one of the things we had to ask ourselves was “what’s the purpose to what we want to get out of RVing?” I also disagree with Matt… focus should be on the brand. Quality over all is better than quantity of space IMHO. There are so many out there that have young kids and live out of an AS. Wishing you two the very best in your new adventures, but I truly hope you do a lot of shopping around before settling. 😉
You won’t be living in an RV very long-hate to be negative but.. on the weekends ya -but full time 🤷♀️ time to start house shopping 🏡Congratulations on the baby-that is wonderful-😃🎉👶❤️
Do not believe him when he says you can tow a fifth wheel with a F 250. Check your numbers, I guarantee your truck will be at the limit even without anything in the bed of the truck. Always play it safe!
@@Wanderlocal You can install a baby monitor - camera and an iphone-sized device for monitoring (video + sound). Distance from your baby is not an issue.
Nooo! Those RVs are not Airstreams!!!! We don’t want to louse you guys to an SOB RV (some other brand). Diane suggest you look at the Airstream 30' Bunk
😉We're just shopping around. No commitments to buy yet. It's been fun to see what the other brands have to offer, though. And we are definitely going to check out the bunk option. Tell Diane, that it's at the top of our list. 🙌 L+D
Uggh… Make sure you don’t get laminated foam flooring. You have full composite single piece floor (not even plywood) in your rig. Remember that the huge trailer height is going to be a totally different towing experience; pulling a giant box versus an aerodynamic bullet only 9’9” tall. Also, the Airstream wheel wells are a feature. Your trailer has 60% of the mass below the floor rather than a trailer perched precariously high above the wheels. Remember: precious cargo!
cbdane, VERY good points! And you are 100% correct, previous cargo on board so safety is #1 for us! After our West Texas wind experience we can't imagine hitting a wind storm in some of these larger rigs. They must rock back and forth quite a bit! 😬 L+D
Don’t fear cloth diapers. As a Dad, I learned to love them. They are easy to use, can be resold (yes, people will buy your used diapers when the baby outgrows them) and they are so much better for the environment. Having used both cloth and disposable diapers, I actually found the smell of disposable diapers to be worse. Keep an open mind.
Thanks for the tips, Keith! This is our first child, so there is LOTS to learn, and we approach most things in life with an open mind. I'll (this is Daniel) take all of the dad advice I can get! 🙏
Ok these two are the cutest couple in the rv TH-cam world but I’m curious if they even looked at anything other than airstream. No disrespect at all but you two really need to do your homework. There is so many options, so many pros & cons for both trailer and truck.
Nathan, thank you so much! 🥰 When we started this RV journey it was because of a 3-month partnership we had with Airstream. They loaned us a unit to take on the road to try out, and in return we had to document our experiences. We thought afterwards we'd turn it in and go back to living full-time in AirBnB's and hotels, BUT, we instantly fell in love with the RV life, the community of people, and everything else that we discovered along the way, and decided we'd keep the party going by purchasing our very own Airstream. Honestly, you are spot on with the fact that we should have done more homework. Now that we have a growing family we are considering all brands and manufacturers. 😃 Lauren + Daniel
Lauren, to help reduce (if not eliminate) the puke, rub the baby's back when burping him or her, instead of patting it. This will keep the milk down and save on water and power to wash more clothes than you need. Daniel, apart from the fact that cloth nappies (diapers) are so much better for the environment, dealing with the poos of newborns is easy and not that gross. If Lauren plans on breastfeeding, the baby's poos should be liquidy and not smell at all. Babies who are bottle fed with formula, though, may have firmer poos and may be a little stinky. Either way, cloth nappies are great!
Class A; potty breaks on the roll? I can’t imagine wandering around unsecured in a rolling chassis on the highway? You’re going from a safety certified truck with full air bag surrounds, optimized car seat attachments, crash tested. Don’t do it! Once again; precious cargo!
30 foot airstream flying cloud. Use bunk/office area for baby's room.

What are you going to do when the baby needs to be changed or feed I think you can special or a child car seat from the manufacturer
The stairs in th 5th wheel would be awful with babies and toddlers.
👀NA, that's a great point! Thanks for the tip. L+D
Agree completely. Matt is trying to sell an RV on his lot to make commission. Why else "down-sell" your "crappy" Airstream?
You won’t be living in an RV very long-hate to be negative but.. on the weekends ya -but full time 🤷♀️ time to start house shopping 🏡Congratulations on the baby-that is wonderful-😃🎉👶❤️
Thanks, Mary! We're going to give it a shot and remain full-timers, but time will tell. 😉 Lauren + Daniel
Look at Grand Design.
Harold, we did just that! A new video is coming soon, so stay tuned! 😉 Lauren + Daniel
Do not believe him when he says you can tow a fifth wheel with a F 250. Check your numbers, I guarantee your truck will be at the limit even without anything in the bed of the truck. Always play it safe!
Yup, payload sucks on 250 diesel trucks
I lived in a fifth wheel with a baby
I don’t think you will want to have your baby sleeping at the other end of your travel trailer or 5th wheel.
Noel's Ark, excellent point! 🤔Thanks for sharing. 🙏 L+D
@@Wanderlocal phew...you talked us off the edge. Have fun at the Tampa RV show.
We’ll take notes for y’all!
She dropped that on your head on purpose bub. It was all planned while you were asleep. 🙃
🤣statmagic - you figured out my secret! 🤫Lauren
Not sure about reselling the diapers
Thanks for the tips, Keith! This is our first child, so there is LOTS to learn, and we approach most things in life with an open mind. I'll (this is Daniel) take all of the dad advice I can get! 🙏
Noel's Ark - I've bought and resold a ton of stuff. Diapers...that's a new one for me too! 😉
@@Wanderlocal please look at solitude & alliance.
Why are RVs so expensive when the quality really sucks?
Gracie L, you’re not wrong! Plus it’s gotten way worse since the pandemic. Parts have gotten harder to source with has skyrocketed the cost. 😕
@@Wanderlocal why we are building a lightweight one perfect for us to our specs.
I saw a new 5th wheel that got sideswiped and it trashed it.
Once again; precious cargo!
cbdane - once again, solid comment to help keep things in perspective! It is much appreciated. 🙏L+D
Disposable diapers smell way worse than those diapers!
