So how much of this is improvised? I’m still confused about the role of improvisation in Carnatic music.
All of it is improvised based on a scale which we call Abheri.
John Jax even the ending? That certainly seemed to be planned ahead of time even if there was a lot of improvisation leading up to it.
@@isaacc7 the ending is sort of standardized :) almost every musician ends Taanam (rythmic improvisation) with that pattern.

@@isaacc7 The ending is prepared between the brothers. Otherwise, they play what comes to their mind based on the scale grammar. But, these are routes they have already taken due to several years of practicing. So, what they play is influenced by their thought process and at-home practice. What we see is the end result which no doubt is mind blowing.

why I am getting the feeling that the piece was pre recorded, and played afterwards cz bow is kind of sliding down in the video and it normally makes squeaky sound.
