What baffles me about this band is how they get such a montrous sound with hardly any amplification on stage? They must have one hell of a PA system.

It really comes down to having a great soundman and a workable PA preferably large. Generally speaking nowadays you keep your stage volume fairly low and give the sound man of good sound intone and then let them do what they do. The PA system should be doing almost all the work.
