@@Maeve_Ever_Books I really enjoyed it. I’ve heard others who either struggle with cosmic horror or don’t like the style of Stephen King, or just don’t like the mixture of the two have less positive experiences. It’s a bit like gin and tonic. If you like gin, you like tonic and you like the two together then it’s a match made in heaven. If one of those doesn’t work for you then the whole thing will be unpalatable.
Great reading month mate, thanks for the mention. I really enjoyed The Ritual and want to read more of the Author. The Fisherman is high priority on my tbr. Love Joe R Lansdale, who has also written some great horror.
Sounds like you had a great reading month, and Santorini looks lovely. (Even better than the board game named after it!) I'm looking forward to that run of Discworld books when I get there soon too.
Love hearing your review of these Stephen King books. I have only read a bit by him but I have wanted to read more. I enjoy his writing style, I'm just still figuring out my personal preference level of creepy or dark so he still kind of scares me. 😂
Thanks so much. Have you tried ‘Salem’s Lot. It’s one of his much older books that he wrote in the 70’s, if you want to try one of his horrors it’s a pretty conventional story but really well executed and one of my favourites
I enjoyed The Blade Itself. I've never read Maskerade but love Feet of Clay and Hogfather. The Thicket sounds great. Again jealous of your surroundings, I suppose I could go outside and film a video next to the thames but the water is not quite as nice.
I dunno, there’s some gorgeous parts of the Thames. Maskerade was a bit of a revelation to be honest. I did not remember it being as good as it was. I’d definitely give The Thicket a go, but if an impulse read from me but glad I did.
Great video and Santorini looks beautiful. I've got The First Law books, The Ritual and The Fisherman on my shelf and I'm really looking forward to all of them.
Thanks man. Santorini’s stunning. I have to say I’m especially looking forward to your thoughts on The Ritual, especially the second half. I won’t spoil it but it’s something that I reckon you’ll have some interesting comments about.
@@TheBookThing I've seen the film which I loved but I've heard the book is a bit different, I'm hoping to read it next month and then go to some spooky October woods to talk about it :)
@@DisquietandDragons-lh3zm from what know of the movie, the locals are very different. That’s what I’m interested in your thoughts on. Roll on spooky season.
Okay I feel like my recs need to be better for you! I love finders keepers even more than Mr Mercedes. My goal is to get you a 5 star book! Haha 💕💕 Okay I’m officially intrigued by the fisherman. Adding to my TBR!
I liked Finders Keepers a lot, I think I just really liked the dynamic of Brady v Bill in Mr Mercedes. I almost think that Finders Keepers would have been better without Bill and Holly, which is weird because I really like those characters. I just thought it was at its best when the story was about Morris and Pete. Ha ha you might be a while. I’m pretty mean with my 5 stars I’ve only given 5 books the top marks this year so far. But keep the recommendations coming 😁
@@onceuponabookishsteph I will say though, for a book completely outside my wheelhouse I really liked Remarkably Bright Creatures. Very glad I read it so thanks for that one.
@@TheBookThing I am very similar, I think I only had two 5 stars last year, but this year I swear I’m having one of my best reading years!! And I agree. I loved finders keepers for morris and Pete!
The Fisherman sounds really good! Never heard of it.

No worries man, thanks for the watch. The Thicket was the first one I’ve read from Lansdale but I’ll definitely be dipping into him some more.

Thanks man, it WAS a really good month actually and yeah Santorini is pretty incredible.

I really must get around the Mythos, if you have Netflix then a new series called Kaos might be of an interest to you 😁
@@Bookishtravels1 oh that looks fun. And it’s got Jeff Goldblum!
