    A perfect nymph! Vary the color, size and hook length and you have every mayfly genus nailed.

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah you're right Paul,vary the size & colour and you have a good generic mayfly nymph that is quick to tie.

      Paul it should make it easier for all of us to just stick to one pattern right? Except we won't because we cannot resist. We overcome temptation by fulfilling it! 😁😃

    • @paulallen7651
      @paulallen7651 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kerry Pitt Too true. Unfortunately it makes for too much staring into the fly box stream side.
      At least it gives us an excuse to keep tying.

    • @kerrypitt9789
      @kerrypitt9789 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul totally true my friend. I started tying in 1969, no idea what was coming. I probably give away half of what I make. I tried tying commercially in two different formats but ultimately it burned me out so now I just tie what I want. Always too many!!!

    • @paulallen7651
      @paulallen7651 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kerry Pitt I tied semi professionally for about six years. As AK Best say, “Good flies are tied by the dozen.” That philosophy makes for some crowded fly boxes and over preparation for angling trips.

    Hello feather bender. I'm new to fly tying and as I'm sure you already know learning the materials can be a bit daunting. For the wing casing you said turkey. Is that turkey biots? Sorry for the rookie question I'm just trying to keep up with terminology. Love you're videos:) and is there any downfall to using something like Pheasant tail for tail and legs when lacking materials?

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, It's a thin slip from a turkey tail feather. If you are new to fly tying this will be a game changer for you: www.amazon.co.uk/Flytying-beginners-popular-international-patterns/dp/1913159280/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1SRKI7KZ41JDF&keywords=barry+ord+clarke&qid=1669179105&sprefix=barry+ord%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-2 Good luck!

    Sounds like you still have a bit of that rough throat.. it's probably that old cony virus.. I caught that on my 60th birthday when I was called and old crone for the first time.. But then that was many years ago and I could have it wrong.. Nice fly I do not think we have the olive here in the pacific northwest.. But now I think I am gonna go and watch your video on your book on fly techniques I think I will get it.. take care of yourself Barry Hopefully that corona damn thing doesn't get there.. it is all over washington state now 6 dead and many infected.... But not me.. I am too ornery to get it.. best wishes my friend

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, just a little frog in the throat thanks, keeping in and away from everyone and everything, don't want that virus. If you tie the pattern in different colours its a great generic nymph also. Keep safe my friend....

    I have to use wax to spin dubbing on a single thread like you do. I need to be not as stingy on the amount applied.
    I've always been hesitant to backtrack
    Over the thorax as not to elongate the body, never thought to add more dubbing, you big dum-me, thanks for waking up a couple brain cells that must have been sleeping...
    Do you ever snag the tip of the hook tieing nymphs? ... Thank you again for screwing in a light bulb....
