Hello Lucas, thanks for the kind words! And yes, the backing tracks on my channel are more "song-oriented" than just loops (but that's great too!). Have a good time :)
Amuses-toi bien!
i suspect the reason for less playbacks js is due to the horns. the horn part is awesome but for most bass players it would require a good bit of time to pick out. Because of their prominence in the mix, the bass line should go right with it. Otherwise it seems like the bass player is oblivious to the horn section. luckily there are "no musicians in the audience" and if there are..... who cares because they aren't paying your bills. LOL
Harold Manley Harold, when dani posted his 1st comment this video had very few views, now it's more or less 300 views a day cause more people heard about it, that's all! What's more popular videos and quality don't always go together. Maybe some bass players like it, even if they are, as everybody knows, too stupid and lazy to pick out some riffs by ear :)... Furthermore, you can play anything you hear without paying particular attention to the horn parts (not so prominent). It's better than trying to play what other musicians are 'supposed' to think you should play...?? I always think to Jaco's "come on come over" : he wrote the horn parts (sometimes THEY stick to the bass part), but his lines are 'oblivious' to the horn section!
i was postulating, I tried to consider why most would not use this video. It was not my personal opinion. I have played to this video well over a hundred times. perhaps a thousand times to the sum of your videos. They are excellent exercise. I have as yet had no opportunity to perform in this genre given the local venues afforded me here or in any other region I have worked. Nor been hired to do studio work in this vein. Admittedly, I have not looked. Wow I just read the rest of your comment. You know, some of us have made a damn good living playing at least as complex material and still have a hard time picking out material as simple as john paul jones' bass lines. when I started in the mid eighties I was in my twenties and completely tone deaf. I expect some working musicians still think I am. NOW THAT'S FUNNY ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. If I thought my comment would offend you, I would never have posted it. If that is the case, I apologize. I need to think longer before I type. What you do has become a valuable part of the working musicians community. Again, please forgive me and thankyou for sharing your work.
Thanks :) Check this great tutorial and give it a try : th-cam.com/video/8FhbOkpP8ZI/w-d-xo.html Anyway, as a beginner you should concentrate on simple patterns built with D minor pentatonic (D/F/G/A/C), paying attention to a consistant tempo while emphasizing strong beat 1. First play patterns with D and C (below), then add the minor third (F), then play with octaves, then mix them together, etc.. Remember that the rhythm is the most important stuff, then comes the choice of notes, then the phrasing with feelings (slide / hammer-on / pull-off / vibrato), and so on. Good luck, and have fun!
So can I download this, record some slap bass on it and upload the new version on my channel? Of course I would link to your video and give credits. Heck I could even give you some money.
Hey there, here's something i recorded with this track, bass is little old Jolana Proxima L-Bass - Made in Czechoslovakia, enjoy :) Jolana Proxima L-bass
You prolly dont care but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Ayaan Emerson Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
if I can ever get my recording to work, would you mind if I use this in a video? I would of course give you full credit and I will also link your video!
You don't need to tune your bass. Just play lines with Dm pentatonic, D dorian mode, add some chromaticisms, some effects (slide, hammer-ons) and so on. Read the comments, some have recorded a track with this backing track. If you publish a video with it don't forget to put a link in the description to this video, it's a BT of mine. Enjoy.
Hello! Thanks for your comment. PS : Unfortunately, I don't speak portuguese, but it seems that 'muito foda' can have a very positive or negative meaning! Happily, I've checked that you've put a 'like' on this video ;)
I want to congratulate you, not only because it is good but because it makes you have to play something that doesn't ruin the song.

Yeah you might be right. I really love the horns though......and I agree....the bass has to go with. It sounds best that way.

I have no idea what I'm doing. I was just playing D on the A string, the octave, G, C and A. It didn't sound awful...
great
How can i play this funk? should i tune my bass D or play the Dm7 scale? Help
You don't need to tune your bass. Just play lines with Dm pentatonic, D dorian mode, add some chromaticisms, some effects (slide, hammer-ons) and so on.
