  • New Braunfels is one of the best places to visit in Texas! Here are the Top 5 Things to Do and Places to see including the historic town of Gruene, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Landa Park and Canyon Lake. This is one Texas day trip destination you don't want to miss!
    My name is Michael Johnson with Film Compass, and I had the wonderful fortune to call New Braunfels my home for nearly 30 years. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy this New Braunfels Travel Guide video.
    Chapters:
    00:00 Introduction
    00:18 Gruene, Texas
    01:02 Comal & Guadalupe River
    02:20 Schlitterbahn
    02:55 Landa Park
    03:38 Canyon Lake
    04:15 Outro
    1. Gruene, Texas
    Among your pick of Texas daytrips and things to do in New Braunfels - Gruene should be at the top of the list. If you're looking for an amazing scenic location that will make you feel like you're in the old west then Gruene, Texas is a place you have to check out. The town is home to the Gristmill River Restaurant Grill & Bar, the USA's oldest dance hall called the Gruene Hall, the Gruene General Store and many more shops, vineyards, restaurants and antique.
    Once you arrive in Gruene you'll immediately feel like you're back in the days of the old west. The town was originally a cotton producing community with mill operations taking place at what is now known as the Gristmill River Restaurant. Now, the town is one of Texas's best tourist destinations.
    You can even start a tubing trip in Gruene with Rockin R River rides - a fantastic river outfitter that'll set you up for some Guadalupe River tubing - one of the best tubing rivers in Texas.
    2. Comal & Guadalupe Rivers
    A scenic New Braunfels river tubing adventure is a must when visiting. The Comal & Guadalupe Rivers can easily be seen as the best rivers for tubing in Texas. These two rivers offer many tubers and outdoorsmen the chance to see raging rapids, tube chutes and exotic wildlife.
    Guadalupe:
    For the more adventurous I would recommend the Guadalupe River. A tubing or rafting trip down the Guadalupe can be a relaxing and exciting experience. You'll go down rapids and see wildlife you normally wouldn't get to see on any other river in Texas.
    Popular tubing outfitters for the Guadalupe are Rockin R River Rides and Jerry's Rentals. Both these outfitters are next to the Hueco Springs Campground off River Road - an excellent location for camping along the banks of the river. A river road camping adventure will leave you full of smiles and a profound appreciation for experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
    Comal:
    Thousands come each year to enjoy one of the best things to do in Texas - float the comal river! If you want a crystal clear water experience with an easy float that goes right through downtown New Braunfels then it's time to check the Comal River. This spring fed river is the shortest river in Texas and is only 2.5 miles long. Comal river tubing is fun for the entire family!
    The Comal doesn't have any rapids but does contain a few exciting tube chutes you can go down. Tubing on the Comal can start at Landa Falls or head down the river just a bit to Texas Tubes. Many tubing outfitters on the Comal offer shuttles that will pick you up and take you back to their parking lots.
    3. Schlitterbahn Waterpark
    Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is still the "hottest coolest time in Texas." Many of the best water rides in Texas are located in New Braunfels and Schlitterbahn has been largely considered the best waterpark in the United States for many years.
    This water park offers lazy rivers, exciting rides such as the Master Blaster and 3 different parks stretched across town with shuttles that will take you to each park so you don't have to walk.
    Schlitterbahn New Braunfels contains the world's longest water park ride stretching an incredible 3600ft or just over 1KM. The park even has a resort you can stay in!
    4. Landa Park
    Landa Park offers a variety of many attractions the entire family will enjoy. Take a dip in Landa Park's Spring Fed Pool or ride the miniature train. Stroll through Panther Canyon, hike along one of the parks many scenic trails or enjoy a round of golf at the Landa Park Golf Course.
    It's free to enter the park while miniature golf, the mini train and pool only cost just a few dollars.
    5. Canyon Lake
    Largely considered the water recreation capital of Texas - Canyon Lake is where New Braunfels meets water sports. Expect to see jet skis, boat parades and kayakers all enjoying a day on one the states best lakes. If you're looking for an easy hike then a walk along the top of Canyon Dam will fill you with spectacular scenery of the Texas Hill Country. The lake even has tours of the popular Canyon Gorge - a 1 mile long 50ft tall gorge exposed by the flood of 2002.
    I hope you enjoyed this New Braunfels Travel Guide and discovered some new things to do.

    I've been going to New Braunfels since I was a boy in the 70's. My most cherished childhood memories are my vacations in New Braunfels. I've passed that on to my son as well.

    Is there much to see in the urban centre (much as I love swimming)?

    • @FilmCompassTravel

      Yes! Downtown isn't very big but has a few charming bars and restaurants. I'd recommend the Pour Haus Patio Bar for drinks, Huisache Grill or Krause's Cafe for food and Downtown Social for fun.

    Think the whole waterpark can be done in one day?

    • @FilmCompassTravel
      @FilmCompassTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the day! A weekend, no. A weekday, probably yes. The lines can be very long on the weekend. I recommend doing the Master Blaster when the park opens and saving all the fun river rides for mid day.

    • @malcorub
      @malcorub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say depends on the time of year more so than the day of the week, we went last summer toward the end of July on a Monday and Tuesday and the lines were terribly long for a weekday. Plus the park was shut down early one of the two days due to a thunderstorm that moved into the area.

    The Guadalupe sucks it’s hot it’s gross it’s not spring fed and the last time I went I had to walk it and push my dogs on the tubes because there was no water so I would recommend the Comal Guadalupe river is nasty

    • @FilmCompassTravel
      @FilmCompassTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I grew up on the Guadalupe. It should really only be floated if there has been an ample amount of rain during spring. If you can catch it when it is flowing good then it is a wonderful experience.
