The dramatic turndown curve of the lugs makes straps fit better. That’s why these watches are so good with aftermarket straps; the lug holes are closer to the wrist
I just finally got around to picking up a Sarb35. I'm glad I did, it's got something. I agree that a bit larger with screw-down would be cool. I wouldn't mess with the hands though, they're key to the Sarb. I think an MM300 is next on the Seiko map for me, but the new GS SLGH003, with the new movement in steel... that's got me going.
Glad you are feeling better. Thanks very much for the comparison. Bought the SARB033 right around the time you did the review of the SARY. The SARB's 38mm case and 20mm tapered bracelet suit my 6.75" wrist perfectly. Running near dead on at a half second per day slow over its first 3 weeks. Love it and cannot recommend enough. Agree with your comments on inadequate microadjust, gap on clasp closure, desire for a slightly more sporty handset allowing increased lume, and desire for a screwdown crown. Those few minor "imperfections" are small prices to pay for such an extremely high value sub $350 watch.
Thank you for a detailed and objective comparison of the two watches I am most interested in buying. I've checked out some of your other videos and love the detail you bring to your reviews.
From a hardware perspective I would say the SARB is definitely the better watch. Higher grade movement with a longer power reserve, better clasp, better finishing on the hands and indices(in my opinion.) But the SARY is definitely a good watch for it's price point. I just think the SARB offers more quality, more value.
I know that the design of a square clasp head is limiting as far as microadjust but I also think that style is visually the most appealing design. Just a fine square with the branding or logo stamped on it. Even higher end watches like the Grand Seiko or even the Tag Heuer Carrera use this and I think it is simply a trade off you must ask yourself if it is worth it. To me it is because aesthetically it is the best clasp design to me.
Not sure if someone's mentioned this elsewhere to you in the last two years... but AR coating is often 'clear', meaning no colour. Watches with blue AR coating, where you see that blue colouration, chose that for aesthetics (either that or it's cheaper, I'm not certain!).
The reason for the turned down lugs on the big SARY is that it's a Japan market model -- a large watch designed to fit the slender wrists that are typical of the Japanese. I have really skinny wrists for a White guy, so of course I appreciate it that there's a company manufacturing 40+ mm timepieces for people my size!
Sometimes the collar is still sitting inside the bracelet as well after you remove the pin. So if anyone is sizing the bracelets be aware where the collar goes! Also great video. I was looking into getting a SARY
The SARY is a dress watch. With no lume, more elegant crown, and the better designed and fitting bracelet at the lugs, it states that undeniably. The SARB is a confused piece. Not sporty yet it has lume, supposedly dressy yet the bracelet doesn't fit the shape of the lugs in a refined way. The stepped case of the SARB is more interesting for sure, but for me, the SARY makes no bones about what it is. Wrist presence is a plus for me as well.
I think both are fantastic watches, but the SARY057 wins for me. Day date is nicer to me and on my wrists, anything below 40mm tends to look funny since my forearms are so big lol.
I like the daydate function but just adore the smaller size of the Sarb. It wear like a Rolex and the quality and finishing made me question my older datejusts. It’s such a great watch it made me get a Marinemaster as I knew if I was that smitten on a £200/$220 Sarb I would be head over hills with the top quality diver. I was right, ended up selling all my watches bar the Sarb, mm300, a 1968 Lord Marvel and a 59 seamaster that has sentimental value. The Sarb is the best bang for buck watch ever made in my opinion.
That's a great collection! What do you think about the new SLA025? monochrome-watches.com/seiko-prospex-diver-300m-hi-beat-sla025-baselworld-2018-specs-price/ I really like it!
Nice video thanks. The Sary ticks all the boxes for me with my larger wrist size. I love the Sary but I need to rotate it often, as it can feel a little bland after a few days. When I wear it again, my appreciation reappears. I think a similar styled Rolex would stay on my wrist longer, because of the pedigree and the aura that surrounds the brand.
I own the Sarb035 and it was my second automatic watch (after a Seiko 5) and the quality is amazing. I purchased in 2015 and really did not know what I was getting into and how much value it was at $293. It really is one of the nicest watches out there for any price but also it sets the bar high for what you could get for your dollar and makes you mad when other watches (from other companies or even Seiko themselves) cut corners and you say, "well theh put that on my Sarb and it cost less." The minor little cons for the Sarb are easily overlooked because of the price and the fact that other watches more expensive has worse cons. I hate stamped clasp arms and normally you say because of price is why they do it but that is not true because Sarb has it. That is huge to me. You really have to climb into the 1k+ range to make sense to buy something over the Sarb.
I feel like a fool for not picking one of these up before they discontinued them. With they had Arabic numerals though instead of the lines. That would be sweet lookin.
keggerous, just seen the black dial 033 on Amazon for just $319. Search around on some sites and see if you can grab one before the price goes up. It is discontinued but they are still floating around whats left of them.
I put in to watchsleuth my criteria for a watch: 36-39 mm, sapphire crystal, day/date complications, bracelet and came up with only these: SARY019, SARY021, SARY025, SARY027, SARY029, SARY031, SARY043, SARY045, and SARY047 -- no SARBS at all.
I like both watches but the sarb is selling for 2x the price of the sary057. I get that the sarb is discontinued but it is definitely not worth that IMO.
No, I have them both, the Sary I have is the white dial and blue indices, I can hardly find any reason to put the SARB above the SARY. I would say that the SARY is a more impressive watch, it has very nice case, and the dial produces different tonalities and it's just way more fun to look at. The SARB is a very nice watch, but the lume, the small size and the boring looking dial make it a less attractive piece.
I have both and prefer the Sary. Nicer details, better balance, higher quality bracelet except for the clasp, couldn't care less about the difference in movement.
Your narration audio level is far too low for the far too loud bumpers you're trying to use. Amateurs don't understand that audio is as important as video. Just leave the intros out until you understand this.
Coming from a world of the modern radio-controlled solar watches enclosed in hardened titanium cases this talk about 45 - 50 hours power reserve sounds ridiculous to me. Sounds like people discuss early steam trains and comparing their steam engines, loudness od their manually-operated whistles and polished bronze parts! These days more and more people are driving Priuses and Teslas and flying Boings and Airbuses. Staying in yesterday and discussing advantages of one "steam engine" over the other is possessing little value to me.
I'm not sure what the point of your comment is and I kind of want to know. It's it that you don't understand why people are running for mechanical watches at this day and age when they can gave radio controlled ones for example?
No Names To each his own, but not sure why you felt the need to comment here. If you don’t get the allure/appeal of mechanical movements, no biggie. Glad you are happy with solar. I use my phone if I need to check atomic time. My watch is a functional, moving piece of art. What exactly is a “boing” and how can I learn how to fly one?

Thanks!

I just bought the SARY....love it. Perfect size for a man and much classier.
SARB case looks nicer to me. Also the 6R15 is great too.

Just the comparison i was looking for ,for a long time
Great job👍
Thank you!

nice comparison.. like the sarb's case due to its size and like sary's bracelet.. wondering what a match that would be
I own both of the watches in your video and I would never sell them..Very detailed review..👍
Thanks!

That’s just because white people are fat and obese especially Americans
Sometimes the collar is still sitting inside the bracelet as well after you remove the pin. So if anyone is sizing the bracelets be aware where the collar goes! Also great video. I was looking into getting a SARY
Thank you, and good point on the collar. They also get stuck on the pin pusher at times.
Hi. I am in the market for either a sarb033 or sary057. I know the sary is a bit larger but that is OK. I just can't find a new sarb.
thank you for the video a very useful comparison.

SARB goes well with top grain leather strap, but then again theres already a seiko 5 snkl.
I think both are fantastic watches, but the SARY057 wins for me. Day date is nicer to me and on my wrists, anything below 40mm tends to look funny since my forearms are so big lol.
Sarb 033 discontinued and price jumped from $280 to $469 on ebay and amazon wow
I've seen them over $500 USD, crazy.
That's one of the reasons why I want the sary057, I can still find it new.
Great comparison, thanks!
Thanks Double A, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The diamond second hand and cream white face is what does it for me. My first night i slept with the 035 on my wrist like I was infatuated
Haha, that’s awesome. I wish I had kept mine

Ha ha. You have a different opinion and perspective to someone else, so that other person is shallow in your mind. Nice one (-:

38mm is the perfect size IMO
Putra Ramadhan the more I wear it, the more I like it!
Kalau wristnya kecil sih oke, kalau agak besar seperti saya kelihatan kecil sekali. Sayang, padahal SARB sudah perfect sekali spec nya.
Excellent video
thanks, your video is a big help
Great vid. Been honeymooning with the srpb69 and I love the watch.
Thanks Marcus, enjoy the watch!

Hi Robert, that's correct, SARB is date complication only, no day. Thanks for checking in!
Great video
Do you have the sarb035?
I like both watches but the sarb is selling for 2x the price of the sary057. I get that the sarb is discontinued but it is definitely not worth that IMO.
Too late for the party.😋 How about a SARX?
SARX is just that little bit dressier, no luminous, etc..
I just bought the SARB for $350.
Great video ... Thanks ...
Thanks for watching Rick!
Sarb better watch for sure.
I do also, Its the Sarb sorry.
Agreed, I love my sarb035, if only it wasn't so dressy.
darkangelshub slap it on a NATO
I have tiny wrists so the sarbs seems more my speed.
I like the look of the sary bracelet more, but the clasp is better on the sarb
Interesting, what do you like better about the SARB bracelet? I found them to be identical except for size.
Just Watch the flatness of the sary links looks a little more sporty to me so I like that. The clasp juts out too much though so it can get snagged
You, yourself, pointed out how the SARY links were flat topped compared to the SARB links.
Ya..The cheapest I found is about 420usd
اعشق السيكو بجنووون 💓😍😍😍
Sary looks great. Day Date for $400.
Way less than that. Bought mine for around 280.
Sarb is a superior piece in every way

your comment made me purchased a Sary 057 thanks, i love this Sary057 with 41mm dial, 38mm is to small as my Orient President watch

Shouldn't 6r15 calibre be good enough reason?
Smiley Guy Not really, none of them is factory adjusted... I don’t see much difference in time keeping, they’re both equally good
Smiley Guy Not really, none of them is factory adjusted... I don’t see much difference in time keeping, they’re both equally good
Are all Seiko watches made with cheap Chinese parts or just the SARB line?
Maybe you should try to do your reviews with gloves, that way you won't have to keep wiping the fingerprints off the watch. Just a suggestion.
Check the 20 or so reviews I've done since this review lol
I have both and prefer the Sary. Nicer details, better balance, higher quality bracelet except for the clasp, couldn't care less about the difference in movement.
38mm is why this is great. SARY are all 40.5mm+
SEIKO 5 SPORTS WATER TOOM RESIST AUTOMATIQUE. la ni 2010
The case of the sary is much closer to a grand seiko
the only win for SARY is that nice rotor. But SARB wins
I like the SCARY
The SARB is much nicer imo !
You need to compare same colors!
SARY is a good watch, but the SARB is king.
Your narration audio level is far too low for the far too loud bumpers you're trying to use. Amateurs don't understand that audio is as important as video. Just leave the intros out until you understand this.
The upshot of this video, is the guy wants a dive watch and not either of these.
There is no lume on the counter balance of the sarb
Love the channel but, who is "we"? I'm sure you are one person.
SAR B?!?
The flu season. Shit that’s ironic.
SARY is too big
