As a Buckeye fan I’ve seen enough Sam “Bam” Cunningham (USC) to last me another lifetime! And Vataha too. That Rose Bowl loss in 1971 to him and Plunkett was horrible.
The 1976 Rose Bowl against a young Dick Vermeil’s UCLA team still haunts me. A Natty on the line and the Bucks choked. Woody said later on that he probably would have retired if they had one that one.

I think that play was drawn up to be a planned reverse. How 'bout they just do away with kickoffs entirely and place the ball at the 50? That way offenses are already in field goal position. That's what the NFL wants - plenty of points. Just kidding, but they need to stop tinkering with it.

Ted Hendricks was a Physics wiz in High School. University of Miami offered him 4 scholarships - baseball, football, basketball AND an Academic scholarship. He chose the Academic scholarship and received Honors in both Math and Physics. He was a legitimate science genius.

Every time I see Jack Tatum, I think about the totally unnecessary hit on Daryl Stingley, AND in a freaking preseason game no less. Horrible play regardless of the situation. The guy played to hurt people, all about laying on the big hit, hardly ever tried to wrap-up and make a real tackle. My opinion anyway. Great vids and music!
No. The Three Mile Island disaster occurred in March 1979 and Alzado didn't receive his nickname until he played with the Raiders and his first year with them was 1982. So, the nickname does not qualify as a 1970's nickname. Thanks for bringing it up though!

No, that term was started to describe Ray Guy punts. John Madden used it to his advantage. The hang tome was key.

I would have added Roger "Captain America" Staubach and Fran "The Scram" Tarkenton. Also, Billy "White Shoes" Johnson should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, especially since Devin Hester made it to Canton.
To me, White Shoes and Rick Upchurch belobg in the HOF. I included Staubach in my other "nicknames" video that's included in the "Special Features" section of my Playlist. Thank you for your comments.
I don't know if 'The Rock' was an awesome nickname for Packers Center Larry McCarren but I will post it here because of his consecutive games he started at the position.

It's a good'n. I couldn't ibclude it since he didn't play in the '70's, but I think his seasonal interception total of 14 will stand forever...and he did it as a rookie in a 12 game season no less!

Every time I see Jack Tatum, I think about the totally unnecessary hit on Daryl Stingley, AND in a freaking preseason game no less. Horrible play regardless of the situation. The guy played to hurt people, all about laying on the big hit, hardly ever tried to wrap-up and make a real tackle. My opinion anyway. Great vids and music!

No. The Three Mile Island disaster occurred in March 1979 and Alzado didn't receive his nickname until he played with the Raiders and his first year with them was 1982. So, the nickname does not qualify as a 1970's nickname. Thanks for bringing it up though!
