You're right Yamashita Tatsuro and Mariya Takeuchi are married. They both compose and often play or sing on each other's albums. Again they also sing in English often. Personally l love the jazz influences in Tatsuros music. His album "For you" is a real classic.

    From Japan.
It is amazing that you guys are enjoying the music we were listening to 40 years ago. And thank you.
Tatsuro Yamashita has respect for street music in the United States. Now it is rap and hip-hop, in the past it was doo-up. Tatsuro has released three albums of doo-up covers recorded multiply by himself, a series titled On The Street Corner.
Nowadays, you can easily record multiples digitally, but he started doing it in the 1970s using tape. It is amazingly accomplished, even listening to it again now.
Unfortunately, Tatsuro is a musician who does not release his music to subscriptions. Online sound sources are almost always illigal. You may want to be careful when dealing with them in reaction videos.
However, there are many sound sources available if you just want to listen. I am a little jealous of you guys who will now be able to meet his music anew.

Jealous of us? Man, I’m jealous of YOU! You got to experience it first hand. It’d be so cool to go to a bar or club, and this type of music is what’s playing!
I definitely noticed he doesn’t upload music to streaming services… unfortunate. But a lot of it is on YT thankfully.

6:39 when the guy in pink said it sounds like the purple guy was just explaining a distant memory I wanted to reach through the screen and say, you got it! Almost everyone who listens to city pop feels this longing or reminiscent feeling for a time that never existed. Like, when the purple dude explained how the song made him think of being in a car with the top down, just cruising, that's a super common description for the way these types of songs make their listeners feel. You remember and even grieve, a time that you never existed in. You remember the joy of a moment that has never existed. That is City Pop. I'm glad y'all were able to really feel that, even if it was only through a few passing comments.

In the main chorus, it mainly says “Stay with me. Opening the midnight door, I had cried saying ‘please don’t go.’”.

It’s always difficult to listen to “stay with me” when you know Miki Matsubara has passed on from this world already. It’s rather haunting to hear her singing it to you…be sure to check out toshiki kadomatsu! He’s the Man! Beaches, babes, sports cars, etc…he’s the man that all other men wanted to be like. And check out minako yoshida…one of the greatest voices I’ve ever heard. TONS of power and presence, really damn impressive

She even partnered with Stevie wonder on her music. And I feel her English is by far the best of all city pop artists. It’s nearly flawless and completely fluent

Known for “vaporwave” sounds, y’all should check out future funk music !! Like macross, nanidato, and many others !! Some songs I recommend are talk about love by naito, fun tonight by macross, and it’s good to see you again by adrianwave !! Ofc if you’re all able to, as I’m not sure how the whole process is like. I'd always heard of City Pop but never thought to give it listen until more recently. I've started rewatching some of my favorite retro anime from the 80's, where quite a few opening songs are easily inspired by City Pop. I've been listening to Takeuchi Mariya on repeat for a few weeks now and I think I'm in love. Lol

Man, you really know good shit. Big wave is also my favorite city pop. Because I love that album so I watched the documentary. The music is completely amazing with the visuals. It’s very different than only audio. That music tells the story with the video.
Especially the one “your eyes”, that’s one of my favorite songs in the documentary. The first time I heard this song I just thought it’s simply a love song. But when I saw the documentary, I realized it’s a kind of love to something you try so hard and even when you failed a lot of times, but every day when you wake up you will still doing it until you make it.
Dude highly recommend this documentary, it’s amazing!

I love this genre so much. Some of my personal favorite artists that weren’t talked about here would probably be takeo onuki(4:00am and tokai and the rest of the sunshower album are godly), Anri (the whole timely album is the best and the rest of her music is just so good too. Definitely one of the best city pop artists out there.), makoto matsushita (the whole first light album is just great), Yurie kokubu (just a joke and the rest of the songs on that album are fantastic), Meiko nakahara (she doesn’t have any of her music on Spotify but her song fantasy is probably my favorite song in the whole genre. Her other stuff is utterly fantastic too. She also has an interesting story behind her. At least to me.), junko yagami ( bay city is just fantastic and the whole rest of her repertoire is so freaking good), Tagkako mamiya (love trip is just way too good of a listen. I really wish she made more music or at least put her stuff on Spotify) and Toshiki kadomatsu (he’s also not on Spotify from my knowledge but space scraper and many other songs of his are just bangers). There are so many other great city pop artists and I keep finding new ones all the time! It always makes my day to find a new one. It always feels like I’m being transported to the beach on a sunny day or on a night drive through the city with bright pink and blue lights starting to pop up on the skyscrapers around. It’s just the best feeling for me. I really hope other people can get into this genre too so they can get this feeling so I hope these recommendations helps anyone looking for some great tunes from the genre.

Yessss omg this genre is like my favorite! Citypop songs are just so so good and it’s like an endless collection of BOPS! I find it best for summer days. The vibes are immaculate. And Tatsuro Yamashita is my favorite Citypop artist. He’s literally CRACKED! All of his albums: CRACKED.
Here are some of my favorite songs:
-Tatsuro Yamashita: Ride on Time, Bomber, Love Talkin ‘Honey it’s you’, Love Space, Bomber, Daydream, Your Eyes (he has SOOOO many good songs so ill stop here 😭)
-Mariya Takeuchi: Continuation of a dream
-Anri (another banger artist! All her albums are amazing!): Lady Sunshine, Remember Summer Days, Driving My Love, Last Summer Whisper
-Makoto Matsushita: Love Was Really gone
    -Taeko Onuki: 4:00am
    -Meiko Nakahara: Private Beach
-Tomoko Aran: I’m in Love, Midnight Pretenders
OKAY I did not mean for this list to be so long but u must understand I tried picking from my 12 hour long citypop playlist 💀💀 These are not all the songs but some of my absolute favorites! Any one of these you can’t go wrong with!

Magic Ways is one my all time favs! Got into "City Pop" 10+ years ago due to Japanese Hip Hop sampling. My most popular upload is by PSG (Punpee aka Sugbabe*, Slack and Gapper) that samples Original Love's "I Wish" and recently they did a updated version with the band.
With 80s US RnB, Funk, etc producers, collabs and..."inspiration" creating songs that sound like what many heard as kids in your parent's car hearing them looping back to the US/West is a wild ride of double nostalgia and who did what first. Ex. Takeuchi's "Oh No Oh Yes" and Bobby Brown's "Rock Wit'cha", her song was released before his so 🤷🏿‍♀️
Got an endless list of artists but main one I don't see listed enough is Kimiko Kasai, "Mmm mmm Good" alone is an experience and Cindy's album Angel Touch is all RnB/New Jack Swing bops I especially love "Must Be Lucky". I could go on for hours lol.
*Sugar Babe was the band Tasturo Yamashita and Taeko Ohnuki (another popular singer) were in, his name is a homage to that.
