Mike and Nans, I never get tired of watching and rewatching all your super HD videos. I will always cherish my Feb 2020 fishing trip in Nelson and fully plan to come back for a longer outing next time.
fantastic! really enjoyed watching it...NZ has a such a landscape, clean waters, amazing nature and heritage. Its something that I, as European murky waters pike hunter, would die for ;) wish I get a chance to visit, nice video mate
Great footage Mike, stunning scenery and some truly thumping trout... Though mixed emotions watching this as only problem is, I'm stuck on the other side of the World!!!
nice mate, there's certainly some beautiful rivers up your part of the south Island, crystal clear water that one and not a bad fish you caught at around the 16:30 minute mark.
Fantastic video, as always, Mike!! I'm watching 'em all, and can't wait to get down there to fish with you! Do you recall what month that this trip was? Thanks for all the wonderful things you do to promote the great sport in NZ! Makes us all jealous, for sure!
Great stuff as always Mike. Just got around to watching this. Did you get a new camera? Quality looks better. Not that it was bad before but this film quality is outstanding! Look forward to getting some footage in October...
good job man! Unfortunatly we dont have any river in my country to be like this... however we have a river with big rainbow trout! I think that you would like nestos the name of the river in my village ..
mikefsher would you mind sharing the name of the backpack you wear at the first part of the movie...it had some nice front pouches, not sure if you were wearing a chest pack with a backpack or just the backpack! Thanks!
Very nice video! It looks like Anton has accustomed to the sandflies on his hand while holding the last fish haha Btw, couldn't an eel bite off a finger? cheers Tom
Oh I see, so it's just a slightly thicker/heavier length of line. I use a meter of about 40lb line after my fly line for that, and then taper it down from 10 to 5 or 4. works well.
Riiiight... Trout here in NZ feed predominantly sub surface (about 80%) so an enlightened angler will recognize what a sighted trout is doing and use the appropriate technique... not rocket science is it?. Although someone who has to abbreviate 'why are you' to Y R U - is certainly not a rocket scientist, and further to that, probably uncivilized...

What weight rod are you using on these big trout?
What was that bright stretch of line on the top end of your leader?
Its the top end of a leader system i've devised for spooky fish
you use it instead of an indicator?
Kiwi Fisher nah - just to smooth out turnover
Oh I see, so it's just a slightly thicker/heavier length of line. I use a meter of about 40lb line after my fly line for that, and then taper it down from 10 to 5 or 4. works well.
Kiwi Fisher something like that, yeah

This is a great video man. About how long do you usually spend out on the river on average each day?
+360Linky Thanks! It varies depending on whether i'm guiding or not and time of year, but maybe 8 hours would be about average.
