    You could use some leather cement (or even some eva glue) to hold the pocket in place while you're sewing.
    A couple of additional tools I *_highly_* recommend are an awl and a simple wax candle. Use the awl to make those holes larger if you need to and use the candle to run your needles over from time to time. The wax on the needles will make it easier to pass through the leather. Wax your awl and hole punches occasionaly as well. Your frustration level will go down and your state of mind will thank you.
    Another trick is to take a lighter and singe the ends of you elastic cord. It'll make it easier to push through the holes and cut down on frayed ends, Square knots rather than overhand knots lay flatter.
    Nicely done. I especially like the addition of the pocket. The stitching around the edges will actually add some beefiness to the edges, which is a nice touch as well.

    Love your video, very informative and easy to follow. I've watched several video on leatherworking and what might help you when you're sewing on the pocket is to glue the pocket on first, I've seen several videos were they use very narrow double sided tape, then punch the holes thru both the cover and the pocket at the same time and it holds it in place when you sew it. Garyipip has some excellent tutorials. Really liked your style.

    • @itsHadrian
      @itsHadrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Frances Mackay thank you very much! And i definitely have to look into that double sided tape. I tried glue, but I didn't like the residue from it that would get on the string, but it might have been the glue I was using.

    little tip : next time you can use a little piece of bent wire to thread the elastic. you bend the wire into a "u" shape (like a hair pin), you place the elastic between the two prongs, and you thread both prongs through the hole at the same time, thus pulling the elastic through. it's so easy to do and so damn hard to describe ! :D
    thanks for the nice video ! :)

    awesome video! I've been searching for a video with the pockets explained and I had a feeling it was something like this so thank you so much for explaining everything 😄 a tip to make it look even better is to round the corners of the leather. it just gives it another dimension on beauty, but the sharp corners are nice as well! great job!

    • @itsHadrian
      @itsHadrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Meredith C Thank you so much!!! I thought about the rounded corners as well. I actually rounded the corners of the first notebook I ever tried to make, but I just free handed it. I actually ordered a hammer punch tool that rounds the corners, but it hadn't come yet. I wanted to make the notebook in time for my mom's friends birthday, so I went ahead and did the sharp corners, which is also how I made it for my Hobonichi cover since the notebook goes inside the pocket flaps.

      Thank you for your reply! I went to Tandy yesterday and got me some leather. I was like a kid in a candy store! :) Thanks so much for your help.

      +itsHadrian When do you think you'll add those links to the products from Tandy? I'm lucky to have a Tandy where I live to go check it out.

    Hi again, can you write a list of the tools you used in your video? The tools are not listed in the description box (eg: what size is the tools you use for making the holes with the fork looking thingy lol and the needles). And I tried your link and it doesn't work :-(. I love your work, thank you so much for the great video. :)

    Hi Hadrian, here I am with another question. Are those chisel you used 3mm or 4mm??

    • @itsHadrian
      @itsHadrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mimi Soest no worries! Questions are always welcome. And they are 4 mm 😊 you could definitely use a 3mm too, but that just means more seeing 😳 which I didn't want to do, lol.

    • @mariselas30
      @mariselas30 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +itsHadrian thank for answering my question :)
      Yes that will be a lot of stitching :p
      Will have to see on piece of leather if i like what I see otherwise will buy the 4MM.

    Wuawww really luv how you describe everything to the T.... You rare very artistic person. Cant wait for you next video :)
    Is the elastic 1 mm or 2 mm?

    • @itsHadrian
      @itsHadrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mimi Soest omg! Thank you thank thank you so much for your kind words! :-) I believe it's a 2 mm elastic. I wanted it to be thicker and stronger. I've tried the smaller 1 mm and it was so flimsy. The 2 mm is a little harder to find at craft stores, but I found my large spool at Joann's in the jewelry section.

      @mariselas30 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +itsHadrian thank you so much for the info. Wish we had some Joann's here in Europe. But I think maybe on the Inet :)

      +itsHadrian is ok. Watching this video inspire me to make one myself even though having 2 Foxyfix already hihi
      This is my last question: how thick is the leather
      you used for this Fauxdori?

    • @itsHadrian
      @itsHadrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awww, thank you! And I love the Foxy Fix notebooks! I have one myself. They didn't make a cover for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin, which is the reason I decided to try and make my own, and I'm so happy it came out so successfully, lol. And the thickness of the leather I purchased was 1.6mm-2mm. And please let me know if you have any more questions, and if you do decide to try and make your own, let me know how it goes! I would love to know how it turned out :-)
