    How come PBI is still so popular whilst missing such basic features like labeling?! But thanks for the workaround ;)

    • @MitchellPearson

      Haha, it's definitely missing a couple of a features that would be nice from the visualization perspective. I love the ease of sharing capabilities through the service, the data modeling and DAX components along with what's possible within the visualization layer. But it's not a perfect product and the Power BI team continues to push out updates to improve the product! :)

    Is there a way to do this on a filled map or ArcGIS map? I'm trying to show a data label (that's already a column in my excel) over the middle of a census region (already added lat/long for middle of each census region). I can get this map, and I can separately get a filled map, but can't find a way to do both. This took 5 seconds to do in Tableau not sure why it's not an automatic option in Power BI

    i have a question, how can lock the zoom level after finishing the work on the map ? i mean i want to show just a part of the map, the idea is when i finish setting the map, i want to zoom in a part of it and after that fixing this zoom to not be modified, to always focusing on one part of the map, could you help ?

    Hello Again, i had the same issue, your method worked with me very well, but there was another issue, the filters didnt work with the map, for example i have 100$ sales in morocco, the 100$ did not change if i filter by departement or projects could you help ?

    I've been using the Tooltips feature to create data labels. So far, they only appear when you hover but it's a much simpler option for someone who may have some difficulty with formulas

    is there any method to show just the data lables ? i mean just the numerical values without showing the name of the state and showing the datalables at the exact location on the map
    could you help please ?

    Thank you. I haven't used PowerBI before. May I know, is it possible to do conditional formatting on the data labels on the map. For example, if total sales < 100, the data label colour is red.

    Thank you Mitchell for this very interesting video,
    I have a question about the aggregation.
    In my report, I have a slicer for the transaction type and it works well : it makes the right sum of the values for the chosen type.
    But, when I introduce a slicer date, it doesn't work : in fact, when I have only a value in the values column, it's ok (one value for one month). For example, for France, if I have one transaction type, one month, I have the right value. But, if I select two months, I have two values in the labels (because I have two values in the values column, one by month). It doesn't make the sum of the two values.
    Obviously, if I don't select any month, I have the same problem.
    Any idea to fix it ?
    Thierry

    I found out that if you create the calculated collum as you did and just chuck that into location, Power BI would recognize the location (it works for me). So basically skipping the longitude and latitude part.

    • @rvian4

      You can't create calculated column if you get data by direct query mode. You'll have to change import mode in your data source configuration

    By the way, I have a question:
    I created the table, like you did, with the name Geography and the relationship was made with my table.
    Now, I'm tryng to create a filter, with the information that I have in my table, for example, Client Name.
    If I insert the variable Client Name oh the visutal of the map, and select a random client, the filter dosent works.
    Do you know what to do?

    Awesome thanks! I used this theory to simply add a percentage of sales (ie: '12.6%' only) category label without the bulky state name label/text.

    Hey man, thank you for your awesome tutorial. I need some help for a particular task. Can you please make a tutorial on how to show dot density in bing/google map? For example if New York has 50 shops, I want to show 50 points/dots in map. Can you help me do this?

  • @jessicabramow3094
    @jessicabramow3094 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am trying to do something similar, but rather than displaying sales data, I want to display how many occurrences of a situation per state. The only way I know how to get the state count is by using a measure, but there doesn't look like there's a way to display that measure on the map, which is unfortunate.

    • @MitchellPearson
      @MitchellPearson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do those aggregates in the calculated column, similar to my example where I did a sum on total sales. Because of row context your code may look something like COUNTROWS(RELATEDTABLE('SALES')). Relatedtable will allow you to use the existing relationship to filter down your sales table, then once properly filtered you would be able to count the rows. The biggest problem most people run into with these calculations is the fact that ROW CONTEXT exist and essentially disables those active relationships you have defined in the data model. I did a separate video a while back on ROW CONTEXT which can be very helpful here.
      Of course, the big limitation with Calculated Columns is that it won't be dynamic and react to the filter context in a report like calculated measures! I hope this explanation helps. Thanks!

      @@MitchellPearson Thank you!! Yes, I see what you mean. The label now shows the state count, however, when I adjust the date range, they don't change. Interesting!!! I really wish this label/data feature was native to the program. I know it's possible in Tableau, but we're trying to avoid that route due to budget constraints. I really appreciate your help and I can't wait to watch more of your videos!

    What is the trick that makes this work? Is it that you have State names in the column along with the data? Would this still be employable if you had locations defined by lat/long, and not at a city/state/etc. level?

    • @fanzfanzilla
      @fanzfanzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just use this technique to display names. Since we all work remote, we wanted to show the employees on the map to display the names on the dot on the map. So, I calculate lat and long defined as decimal for addresses for each staff member. I dropped the name into location. Its displaying staff's names. I also tried without the lat and long by formatting the location as "city, state: Person Name". Power BI is able to parse this but it displays the label with city, state and name. Which is not desirable.

    how do we display the state names ?
    I want to display USA map only......With states name displayed on map.
    I have already tried all 3 options….Map, Filled map, Shape map
    And then finally used shape map.
    I have used state as location.
    But It displays state name , only when I Hoover over it. I want it to display permanently.
    I don’t have …
    Data labels option under ....Format Visual -) Visual

    Hello MitchellPearson and the PowerBI GIS Community, I bumped into this video here and well if it helps, ArcGIS for PowerBI Map Visual has inbuilt labelling functionality. to access it you go to the more visual option and then add it into powerbi.
    The only requirement for you to work with it in PowerBI is that you need to signup for ArcGIS Online Account to be able to use it. Thank you Family

    I am curious, EVERYONE does Sales / Finance related Power BI videos but those of us dealing with medical trends, especially those related to poverty, employment type, education level, access to health care, veteran status, etc...could use some assistance creating measures applicable to our world. For Example, I need a report to show the number of patients who meet certain criteria which is held in 3 separate columns (Diagnosis column must contain either Bipolar or Schizophrenia but there are 26 different codes that equal those two diagnosis. 2) they must have been given one of three blood test, also defined by 12+ codes in a separate column. Third, and in the last column, the patient must have been prescribed one of 20 different psychotropic medications, each represented by a different code. Current solution to show those who are compliant requires building 5 new columns and 3 new measures. Once compliancy is located, THEN I can display on a state map the hot spots for programs not succeeding in meeting the requirements. I'm seeking a more concise resolution. I'm happy to provide a spreadsheet of dummy data if necessary. Thanks for the GREAT training methodology!
