    I grew up in Hollywood fishing Islamorada, Marathon but live in Atlanta. I make it down every couple of years to fish and always get a back country guide, a bridge Tarpon guide but this year in April we are coming down to rent a house (somewhere) preferably on a canal, rent a CC boat for the week and venture out to the patch reefs. This is helpful and appreciated!!

    Wow just found this channel. You sound like Heiko. Didn't know you have 3 channels. Congratulations on that.
    Although i live in Tennessee now I'm closer to Florida. I am a California native fishing occasionally in the Pacific ocean, surf and charters. All my life I've fished fresh water for trout in the Sierra Nevada mountains. My husband and I plan on coming to Florida within the next few months so the more knowledge I can get the better. We probably will be going on a charter or two. We have a 16' boat but don't know if we would put it in salt water, maybe in Lake Okachobe.
    Anyway I'll be watching this channel in addition to your other channels.
    Love all your enthusiasm and insight in sharing.❤

    Love the new channel. I just passed you on my way back home. I spent the month of March in Big Pine and had to deal with the wind. Thanks for the info on the patch reefs and how to find and fish them. I have always wanted to do this with my granddaughter. We spend at least 2 to 4 weeks at a time and 2 to 4 times a year there. I can't wait to retire and move there permanently!

    Heiko, Wish I had watched this video 20 years ago when we lived in Sunrise. We had a small 19 ft sea pro duel console we took up and the ICW and out of the Fort Lauderdale inlet. Didn't know what I was doing when it came to fishing but I was in the boat out on the water so I always had fun. Thanks for the video, if we ever get back there I have a little knowledge to help me.

    Nice Heiko! Great tips, I just moved to an apartment just down the street from the key largo fisheries restraunt on the canal. I just ordered one of the old town motorized fishing kayaks and am looking forward to going patch reef fishing on those slick calm days that we will have more and more of soon here as these winter winds stop soon. Keep up the great work, and I hope this second channel of yours has as much success as your first has had!

    Question, do you have to be at least 3 miles from the coast for fishing?
    I just moved to Key Largo and a neighbor said that to me, to be sure to be outside the 3 miles line

    • @SouthFloridaFishingChannel
      @SouthFloridaFishingChannel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to be 3 miles from land just for spearfishing. You can fish almost anywhere, except some of the yellow sanctuary buoys on the patch reefs

    Heiko,
    I'm looking at google maps (just as you did) and I see the patch reefs off key largo (just as you showed). But in looking off islamorada upper and lower matecumbe on google maps, I'm not really seeing any patch reefs compared to key largo (except cheeks rocks and hens and chickens which are mostly for snorkeling). So, I'm looking at google maps and not really finding them off islamorada compared to key largo. Am I not looking right or are they not really there (dark areas surrounded by white areas indicating reef/rock, not just other stuff)?
