    If you have an aloe Vera plant, break one off and smear the jell on the bare stem. It helps with the rooting. Like a hormone. Or just get some rooting hormone.
    Also, if you do this, do it at the end of winter/early spring.
    Also, I've seen better results with wrapping the entire ball with plastic and taping it real good. It acts as a moisture retaining green house.

    I'm currently trying to root a couple of different tree branching's but I'm doing it with large branches. They range from 3' tp 6' and 1/2" to 1 and 1/4" thick. Some are hard wood and others are still soft wood. I peeld the bark off the bottom of each anywhere from 2 to 4 inches and dipped them into rooting powder and planted them in there own pots that had a 1 to 1 of sand from the bottom of a wash and fruit tree fertilizer. I stripped off the bottom 2/3rds of leaves and I water the leaves and pots they are in every other day. I've checked to see if the mixture has gotten dry and it stays moist after the 1st inch of 8 to 12 inches of soil. its been about 4 weeks and the 1/3rd of leaves are just about gone and the branches are starting to dry up a little. Has anyone tried doing something like this and was successful. Im figuring i wont really know until this spring to see if anything starts to grow green. I'm learning and just trying things. My logic is if this works I will have saved 2 years of growing. If not, I will have wasted 4 to 5 months.

    That's clever. A lot of people dont realise that most fruit trees are grafted. Meaning a chosen type of apple is stuck onto a sturdy root stock plant. The shoots growing from the base will be from the stock plant which is probably not the apple you want to end up eating or might never produce fruit at all.

  • @denimjez
    @denimjez 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Yes but there's a reason we graft fruit trees. The roots of this new tree will likely not be as robust as this tree. There are many reasons to use the host plants toot system over what you will get out of that branch. I'm not saying it won't work. I have close to 100% success rate cloning. Have you tried grafting a new fruit to your tree. It might be better to grow several types of fruit from your one host plant. You have an established root system and fewer space requirements. This is very useful information though.

No light and a bunch of substrate.

      You can air layer cannabis, but not exactly like this. Also, it's kinda pointless. The reason this is done with fruit trees is that seeds don't always produce the best fruit. But you can graft a branch of a successful tree to an unsuccessful tree, and grow good fruit. Where as with cannabis, you get a good strain, and just clone it it into sepperate pots and .ake individual plants of all virtually identical flowers

    If you're going to do this with a pear tree, make sure that the fruit is edible. There are ornamental varieties out there, grown for looks or blossoms, but the fruit is inedible for humans.

    What variety of pear? Do pears on their own roots go crazy with growth like apples?
    I'm going to try some air layers on something this year, so thanks for the video!

    While this is a method of propagation, it is the least recommended because it does not produce a strong root system. You're better off grafting scions to appropriate rootstock for a healthy tree, which is the number one way to propagate a fruit tree.

    I just use hormone rooting powder on a cutting with zero problems.

  • @timothykappel198
    @timothykappel198 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Or u can spend the $50 and buy a grafted tree that will actually survive in your hardiness zone. If you want tree thats actually going to produce if needs to be grated to the right thing to survive and produce good fruit. Most if these fruit trees aren't going to be native to your climate.
