I did that walk in 1973. No cat walk or clearly defined trail then. Tried it with my daughter ten years ago but gave up. . Great experience when you get at the top. I think false hope is a cirque. Not for the faint of heart for sure. Thanks for allowing me to tag along.
My dad is 5' 10" 280 lbs and climbed this mountain with me in 2013 at 51 years old when i was only 16 years old. He still can't believe how he managed to climb that mountain till this day and to be honest. I look back on it too and its kinda hard to believe. He was always in pain with arthritis everywhere but climbed that mountain for me and my twin brother amd cousin just to have a memory that will last forever.
I love the country so much and continually try and remind myself just how lucky I am to see so much of it. It’s just the best reset ever. Tks Stephen 👍
Wonderful Video per Usual my friend !! AWESOME 👌👍❤❤❤❤❤ AND I ADORE SEEING MY FAVORITE INTERNET PUPPY WILLOW !!! I know you may not recognize me by my name here, I've Changed it from Sherry a to the new. But will be changing back soon in order to escape from the lunatic neighbors and back to "Tranquility & Peacefulness" Thanks Chuck and Family, all my Love 🇺🇸👌👍😊 And YES, I WOULD LOVE TO TRY, JUST UNABLE DUE TO MY ADULT CHILD BEING SEVERELY MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED . THX CHUCK
Chuck i was at gross morn 3 years ago and wanted to do the hike but I was exhausted ad knew I wouldn’t make it. When I got back to Ontario I found out I had cancer hence the lack of energy. Your video brought back positive memories. I am so glad you posted this on your channel. It’s such a beautiful place
Well I hope that someday you’ll get to hike it or one similar to it my friend. Glad you got to see it at least. Most don’t get the privilege I’m thinking. Tks for sharing bud👍
Thanks for another chance to appreciate the incredible creation around us. Looks like a grueling hike, but worth it for the overwhelming beauty and majesty. My wife and I appreciate the kind and humble person you are and look forward to every new episode. Bless you and your whole family.
Awesome Resource while I was researching the Hike. Did it myself a couple of weeks ago. I think not knowing about the false summits would have broken me during the hike- must say, the toughest portion of the hike, for me, was from Ferry Gulch to Decision Pt. Love the videos, keep em coming! 👍
Good to see it Me and Andrea did that hike 5 years ago We loved it and we will do it again We had a beautiful day just like yours Thanks for the video buddy
Great buddy ,done that 25 years ago .Thanks for the video, bought back alot of memories. My wife and her sister and husband walked that 25 years ago and make the best of it my wife's sister was pregnant. Wish I had some pics to show ,but that was before the smartphone era. Sat down on top of that mountain and shared my lunch with the biggest rabbit (arctic hare ) I had ever seen. Wow enjoy .
I was hoping to see some caribou and maybe a hare as well. I will definitely do it again so fingers crossed I see some then 👍. Tks for commenting and I hope al is well with you
Chuck , did the hike back in 1981 with a friend from Norris Point , when we got to the top he showed me a stream of water , because of all the moss acting like a sponge water is clear and cool , west coast got some great hiking trails , all the best to you & family.
You do a good job at capturing the feeling of being up on top of the mountain. I did it twice last year and enjoyed every minute of it. Longing to go again this year!
We used to make an annual trip to Gros Morne Park before we had kids. Part of that trip was the annual trip up the 'hill'. The first few trips up, there was no signage and no trail across the top and down the back. When our 2 girls got big enough we went back again for another trip to the top. This time there was a trail across the top and a trail down the back. Our girls got a great thrill playing in the snow that we found tucked into the shadows on the way up. It was one of my most memorable family days. Our youngest daughter (8 at the time) found a 'magic' walking stick. That stick kept her going the whole trip! Thanks for bringing back all those memories.
Beautiful hike! Chuckled a little because I know it would be grueling for me now but when I was in my 20's I lived in Jackson, Wyoming in the Teton Range and was able to climb (really a bit more technical hike, as you cross a snow field) a mountain called Teewinot. The peak is at 12,325 feet (3,757 meters). The base is at about 6,400 feet (1.95 meters) so it's a good bit of vertical climb. We started about 4:30 a.m. and were able to finish in time to get to our car by 4 p.m. and back in town to work by our 5 p.m. start time. We were pretty much running all the way down! Oh, to be young again! 😂
Those views are breathtaking.....and to think this (Gros Morne) was created for all of us to enjoy. Chuck, you and Melanie were able to experience this in person. I quite enjoyed the experience by your video which was very well done and I don't have to be rescued by Air Ambulance. Thanks for this. Hoping both of you are feeling better after a well deserved rest.
Tks Oscar bud. Just a touch higher than the hills behind browns arm pit like we viewed growing up lol. Tks for your continued supper bud and for sharing the videos👍
Did this on Labor Day 2020. Especially gruelling as the climb was during driving ran with fog. Sun came out on the way down those stairs and the day was glorious ! 67 yo, alone and quite proud of myself then came upon a wedding in the middle of the trail near the camp site ! I’ve learned that hiking will always keep you in your place lol. Great video once again 👏
Fantastic hike and video Chuck.I done it several times in the summer but the fall is great with all the fall colours. You Will also have more of a chance to see moose and arctic hare.
Well, that was an excellent experience that you had. You couldn't have asked for a better day. I don't think that I'll ever be able to make this part of the trip. So, I am glad that you and your wife did it for us. You did an amazing job with your video work. One really got the impression that you were right " there" with you. Now, I might try to walk to the " No return sign" some time. If you're going to do something it should be outside like you say in your video endings Thank you for sharing your experience. Looking forward to more videos. ENJOY THE FLATS BYE.
Tks so much for the comment Tom. You’re too nice my friend. To walk into decision point is an absolute pleasure itself. Very, very much well worth it. I love for you to try it. Tks again my friend👍
I walked the hill 30 years ago. Just before the summit, fog rolled in on top, didnt see a thing. Two trips in one. Lol. Been at the end of the fjord a couple times on snowmobile. Thats another adventure in itself. Great video once again. Thanks
Hey Chuck ! good video man, what a hike ! but that view of the gorge was worth it ! love the channel, myself, me father and two brothers all watch. thanks again !
I have done that mountain many times over the years. In addition to the water, I take Nuun tablets to help restore electrolytes especially on long hikes like that. Chuck, the winter snowshoe into the base is beautiful as well. Enjoyed the video.
Great Job! My daughter and 4 of her friends just did a 4 day 3 night 48 km hike. They got dropped off by the tour boat at the end of the gorge she said it was an amazing but challenging hike.
Amazing Chuck! You and Melanie took us on quite a hike! Absolutely spectacular! I have travelled NL, East to West, West to East many times for work and loved every kilometre every time BUT…you don’t see the true beauty and majesty of many places until you get into the wilderness - So appreciate your content as always! Look forward to the next adventure - guaranteed!!😉
Great to hear Paddy. If you truly enjoy the outdoors (in all conditions) then a conservation officer is a great career. I’m sure glad you tune into the channel 👍
Would be great but live in Ontario. And I don't travel much anymore. Got myself a 100 acres years ago and built a house. Love my hunting and firearms. Don't fish much anymore since I lost my father. But friends bring some pickeral from time to time. But hi to Willow and your wife. Enjoy all your adventures. Really enjoy your survival ones. Night
Absolutely gorgeous views! Newfoundland as a whole is on my bucket list. Here in Nova Scotia for the past few weeks been hot! Between 30 to 40 degrees Celsius with the humidity. Just too hot for anything that physically challenging. Thank you for the amazing video. Take care
Thanks for taking us along on the hike. I do a far amount of hiking myself but I think I should have done that one when I was a bit younger. Oh well, maybe desision point will be my goal someday. Nice to see all the different challenges to help make a decision.
That bizarre feeling is what you get when you're up on the roof. It's normal. Thanks for taking me up on the roof of NF without my having to get off me arse! ;)
Awesome video. Glad you and Melanie enjoyed it. Don’t think this 60 yr old pleasantly plump body could do it. You must have walked an extra 2 k going back to get the camera lol. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a sweet spot. I think everyone would've given you a pass on the setting the camera down, walking back and then walking in front of it again on that hill!
Haha. That’s the part I enjoy Mike. Being able to show you guys a front row seat but also re-watching it myself gives the the true feeling of being there again. Tks bud👍
Beautiful. Brings back great memories. I hiked that trail in 1998 while in college. I am looking forward to going again. Hopefully next summer. Not sure if I will find it as easy this time. Lol.
That was especially incredible and yes being a outdoor man and hunter that climb did not look easy but if you are able to make it I think it's something you will never forget 👍 well like always another great video. I'm just getting caught up been very busy. I'm still genuinely guelluse like I've told you before buddy some day I will make it to Labrador and Newfoundland life seems do be at a slower pace and a bit less stressful well thanks for the great videos 👍
That's certainly a challenging hike. The few hikes I have done here in Alberta, have been nowhere as long as that one. I always found coming back down much harder than going up. Thanks for taking us along!!
I was quite amazed at how you’d guess the hike down would be simple with gravity on your side. Not so that’s for sure! It all adds to the challenge. Tks again bud👍
Thanks for showing me that nice view(sea/river/ cliff )from up there 👌🏼. I won't be going that's for sure 🤣. Your both in great shape to do that😳💪🏼 (Dan)
Enjoyed your video … I guess I’ll never get to do it but I know what I’ll miss now! … I’m wondering what caused all those broken rocks at the top and also ….. one of my great grandmothers was a Patience Porter Thanks for posting
Hunted moose North of Gros Morne at Portland Creek Pond. Some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain a person could ever hope to hike or hunt. With the trails you don't have to pull yourself out of all the bogs.
Awesome video, and such a perfect day for it too. Brought me right back to when I did this hike last July, definitely the hardest I’ve ever done and almost gave up several times. But so glad we stuck with it, sooo beautiful !
I’m glad you stuck with it too! It’s just the most wonderful experience. I see your name a lot in my Social media. Tks for always tuning in. I appreciate it👍👍
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors absolutely :) we love watching your videos ! We have three little boys and they are always watching your channel too ! This winter past was the first year we had ever tired making rabbit pounds, they boys had to make them JUST like Chucks. We had great success with them too :) !
Great video! New subbie from Alberta, 🇨🇦. We’ll be there next summer. Team hikers (and walking poles) for me especially when making these rocky climbs.
You did well! This summer my wife and I made a 10 mile round trip hike with 2000 ft climb in elevation. Took us 8 hours and I hopped the last mile on one leg due to a bad knee. I wouldn’t do it again but also wouldn’t have missed the experience for the world.
Great on you both for doing the mountain! It is on my bucket list as well. I was there years ago and backpacked the Long Range Mountains for 5 days. We were dropped at the end of Western Brook Pond and came out in Fairy Gulch. We hoped to hike Gros Morne but we were late starting our backpacking trip due to complications so didn't have enough time but to be honest, we were too tired after the long hike we had. haha! NFLD is such a beautiful place, it is no wonder you got emotional at the top, that kind of beauty can do it to ya! lol Thanks for taking the time to film and share your great accomplishment! :) :)
Tks Jacqueline. That trek you took sure sounds incredible. They told us about that on the boat tour. Wonderful stuff. Tks for leaving your comment. I appreciate it👍
Excellent video as usual. My late wife and I went to the end of the Viking trail to the Viking village at L'Anse aux Meadows 20 years ago. We did a boat tour along the way. In no way comparable to that hike but very memorable, nonetheless. Thanks for all your hard work. Cheers!
Excellent video. I really appreciate all the info. I’ve been wanting to do this hike. Maybe this summer. Not getting any younger that’s for sure. I’ve only discovered your videos recently and absolutely love every one I’ve watched. Keep it up. All the best to you and your family.
Great video Chuck,, we had planned on going there last year but we had to cancel..I crossed the plateau with my sons in 2002..hope to get back there one more time..you lucked in with the weather :)
I did that climb when I was 20, wearing casual shoes as a tourist. 21 years later, I'm not sure if I could do it again. I'd love the opportunity though.
Wow! Amazing Chuck, your the only video that i have seen hike that trail.Great Information, It's on my Bucket List and the Long Range Traverse. We drove past the week after, I did the Man in the Mountain at Corner Brook, that was a hot day too.I used Hiking Poles, all the time, but my not be any good when your doing that great Video,I have a water bladder with Electrolyte Drink Tablets in a great help.Question where do you get the Permits? want dose it cover? and how Much are they Thanks again amazing Dave
Great video Chuck! I hiked the trail about 25 years ago, with my friends from Cow Head. It was a tough hike then, but the view of Western Brook pond was worth it all. Seems like the steps were the hardest part(?)Good on you sir for taking on the challenge
I did that walk in 1973. No cat walk or clearly defined trail then. Tried it with my daughter ten years ago but gave up. . Great experience when you get at the top. I think false hope is a cirque. Not for the faint of heart for sure. Thanks for allowing me to tag along.

Awesome relative story and memory to go with the climb. Tks for sharing
I’m a birder so love you included the Grosbeak and Ptarmigan.
Thanks for this video. I'm heading up in 2 weeks and feel better prepared after watching.
You’re welcome. I’m really excited to get back there again. Truly a wonderful experience for me
Thank you for the informative video! I watched this as I'm planning to go on this hike for the first time!
You will thoroughly enjoy it for sure👍👍

Glad you guys were in great shape for ha one. Nice country. Thanks.
You’re welcome. Thank you👍

Wow…. will be putting it on my bucket list after watching this…. thanks for sharing
Glad to hear Sean. Hopefully the video gives you a bit of a heads up for your trip👍
Enjoyed your video Chuck..... nice to watch on a cold winters day.
Great different video for you. The views must've been worth the grueling hike. Thank for sharing that with us. ☺️
Tks Sally. Just a different day outside. I absolutely loved it and was thrilled to share. Tks for tuning in👍

Awesome bud. I looked hard for a hare but didn’t see one. Maybe next time👍
Seeing your videos has gotten me to put fishing that area on my bucket list. Beautiful area.
It really is spectacular first hand ray and that same feeling I had could only be yours when you try it 👍
Thank's to both of you, it was just WONDERFUL & AUTHENTIC ...
Thanks for your kind words and for tuning in my friend 👍
You had a perfect day for it Chuck. I did it once in late October and was lucky enough to see a herd of caribou on the plateau !
Wow! I wonder if that’s still there! Amazing👍👍
You do a good job at capturing the feeling of being up on top of the mountain. I did it twice last year and enjoyed every minute of it. Longing to go again this year!

I had chills while looking at the gorge footage, I'm sure it's so much better in person. We live in a beautiful country!
Absolutely Michel. I’m so very grateful for living where we do my friend👍
Beautiful hike! Chuckled a little because I know it would be grueling for me now but when I was in my 20's I lived in Jackson, Wyoming in the Teton Range and was able to climb (really a bit more technical hike, as you cross a snow field) a mountain called Teewinot. I have done that mountain many times over the years. In addition to the water, I take Nuun tablets to help restore electrolytes especially on long hikes like that. Chuck, the winter snowshoe into the base is beautiful as well. Enjoyed the video.
Excellent tip on the tables Brad. I shall look them up. And I can imagine the winter beauty scenery as well. So many things to do!👍👍 Tks bud

You’re welcome. It’s a wonderful trek 👍
That was a hard climb but the view was excellent Thanks
Tks for coming along George and leaving a comment. I appreciate you tuning in👍
Great Job! My daughter and 4 of her friends just did a 4 day 3 night 48 km hike. They got dropped off by the tour boat at the end of the gorge she said it was an amazing but challenging hike.
Yes I heard them mention that on the boat tour! I have to dig deeper into that for sure. Sounds like an awesome trek👍👍
We did that hike 33 years ago ... not sure I would be up to it now! 😁
Amazing how
Many have told me they did this hike decades ago. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing gord 👍
Thanks for taking us along on the hike. I do a far amount of hiking myself but I think I should have done that one when I was a bit younger. Oh well, maybe desision point will be my goal someday. Nice to see all the different challenges to help make a decision.
Even the trek to decision point is marvellous Ralph. Well worth the trot 👍
That would make a great desktop picture 20:06
That bizarre feeling is what you get when you're up on the roof. It's normal.
Thanks for taking me up on the roof of NF without my having to get off me arse! ;)
Lol. No prob bud👍👍
Awesome video. Glad you and Melanie enjoyed it. Don’t think this 60 yr old pleasantly plump body could do it. You must have walked an extra 2 k going back to get the camera lol. Thanks for sharing.
Haha. Yes the camera filming keeps me moving that’s for sure lol. Tks for tuning in again bud👍
In the 70s elementary teachers would take classes to the summit. so many sprained ankles and deep cuts from the sharp rocks . Wear hiking boots .
Wow!!! Imagine bringing classes there now. 👍
Tks bud👍
Beautiful place, looks like was worth the hike, great video buddy!!
Tks Rollie
Awesome Video! Always wondered what it would be like!
You should try it someday bud. I know you’d enjoy with your love of nature.
Ps. Bring your guitar!! What an inspirational place to write a song👍👍
Wow
Beautiful. Brings back great memories. I hiked that trail in 1998 while in college. I am looking forward to going again. Hopefully next summer. Not sure if I will find it as easy this time. Lol.
Haha. Congrats on doing it before Lloyd abs I hope you get the chance to do it again👍
Your both in great shape to do that😳💪🏼
(Dan)
Tks Dan. It’s my pleasure to bring you guys along. Glad you enjoyed the views👍
Enjoyed your video … I guess I’ll never get to do it but I know what I’ll miss now! … I’m wondering what caused all those broken rocks at the top and also ….. one of my great grandmothers was a Patience Porter
Thanks for posting
It’s such a marvellous place full of mystery and wonder. If you’re lucky enough to bump into a guide along the way they are a true wealth of knowledge
Another great video.
Tks so much for tuning in and leaving a comment👍
Going next week to do this hike for the second time, love ❤️ your video description. Thank you 😊
Thanks for tuning in Andree. I hope it helped you👍
Great tour of a bit of the province Chuck! Beautiful eh? Long time ago I made same hike that was b4 the big meal ahah!
Lol. It was a great day. Great day on the country. Tks again bud for tuning in 👍
Hunted moose North of Gros Morne at Portland Creek Pond. Some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain a person could ever hope to hike or hunt. With the trails you don't have to pull yourself out of all the bogs.
Good stuff mark
Did the hike 20 years ago and loved the views. Hardest hike I’ve ever done so far. On the way down my legs were jelly lol.
Yes I know the feeling lol. Tks my friend👍
good job you two
Thank you👍
Awesome video, and such a perfect day for it too.
It’s really a cool thing to do in Newfoundland for sure
You did well! This summer my wife and I made a 10 mile round trip hike with 2000 ft climb in elevation. Took us 8 hours and I hopped the last mile on one leg due to a bad knee. I wouldn’t do it again but also wouldn’t have missed the experience for the world.
Wow Jack that sounded like an experience for sure!! But I admire your determination. Tks for sharing bud👍
Can’t wait to do this on skidoo this winter. I live like 3.50 hours. From there
I can only imagine the winter views as well. Good stuff bud👍
Wow very nice area!
Yes it was a real treat to go up there. Much more than I expected for sure bud👍
I appreciate it👍
Great Video !!!!!
Tks max👍
Excellent video as usual. My late wife and I went to the end of the Viking trail to the Viking village at L'Anse aux Meadows 20 years ago. We did a boat tour along the way. In no way comparable to that hike but very memorable, nonetheless. Thanks for all your hard work. Cheers!
Thanks Andrew 👍
Excellent video. I really appreciate all the info. I’ve been wanting to do this hike. Maybe this summer. Not getting any younger that’s for sure. I’ve only discovered your videos recently and absolutely love every one I’ve watched. Keep it up. All the best to you and your family.
Thanks Joyce. Glad to hear from you!!!!
Just found your channel and really enjoyed the video. New Sub here!

Good job👍🔥👍
Tks Karl👍
I did that climb when I was 20, wearing casual shoes as a tourist. 21 years later, I'm not sure if I could do it again. I'd love the opportunity though.
I plan to do it again. I’d like to try it the other way around this time (climb the back of the mountain and go down the rocky slope)

Congrats on completing all those years back my friend. I wonder how the trail and signage compared back then to now.
Tks bud👍
