    Great tutorial, that helped quite a lot, but I have a question, do you know of a way or a plugin that can save the rigging of a object to Daz? Been trying to send a rigged car made in Blender to Daz but when I send it in .fbx format the car is totally destroyed and if it is a .obj the rigging of it just disappears, would be great if you could help me on that, have been searching for a solution for weeks, thanks!

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rigging from scratch is a tad "involved" in DAZ Studio. I'm not sure why the rigging information during FBX import is lost, but it can happen. There are so many versions and settings in FBX. OBJ doesn't contain rigging information. I'm not an expert in rigging from scratch in DAZ Studio, but in principle you need to create vertex groups where you'd like the bones to be, then use the Figure Setup tab and drag each group to create a hierarchy. When done, you have basic rigging that can be fine-tuned with the Joint Editor tool. If ever I come to grips with it, I'll make a video about it.

    • @RenaiMobile
      @RenaiMobile 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WPguru It's not really lost, it's more about the way that your model gets totally distorted/destroyed when you try to import a fbx file in Daz, the rig seems to be there but the body is unused... so you are saying that I would need to rig everything inside Daz? (My engrish is kind broken today so forgive me if I got that wrong) because I'm screwed then! I don't know nothing about rigging things in Daz... I have discovered that you can import fbx files in Poser Pro 11 (I didn't test in 12 because I don't have it) and then create a cr2 file in Poser and then open in Daz but I'm not sure how to create an cr2 file in there, it seems that you have to do a lot of retexturing and things like that, I heard of people suscesfully importing fbx files and saving them as cr2 but there is to little information on the web, just people saying that they did it and things like that. I assume you don't know anything about that? Would be fantastic if you would! Because this seems to be the easiest route to import the rigging than to just do everything from scratch in Daz...

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RenaiMobile It's been ages since I've used Poser! CR2 files can still be opened in DAZ Studio, but with all transfers into other formats you'll inevitably lose all shader information. The diffuse/base map usually gets through, but nothing else. So materials are the biggest issue in such operations. Rather than going the Poser route, I'd probably try to work my way through the 50 million options that the FBX format has. Stick with 2012 and see if any tick box makes a significant difference on both import and export. I bet one combination will work.

    • @RenaiMobile
      @RenaiMobile 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WPguru Yeah, that was a problem, but I think there is a way to fix the material problem or atleast a little bit...The import option with fbx in Daz is not as strong as Poser but I always try to open it in Daz, sadly it will import everything glitched or broken 99% of the time... Also, are you talking about Poser Pro 12 right, because I don't think it's a good idea to use Poser Pro 2012 as Poser Pro 12 was released in 2020 and is much better than it. Thanks for helping!

    Unofficially, 1BU has = 1 meter for quite a while. A little while ago (very possibly after this video was created,) it was officially acknowledged. The related point is that we are basically exporting from a system that uses cm as a base to a system that uses meters as a base, then back to cm... So we can either multiply, or select this from menus.

    I try to export a COLLADA-file (.dae) from DAZ Studio. It is a Genesis 3-character that stands in some kind of pose. I have tried so many times with different settings but DAZ always creates the character in a T-pose and not the pose I want. When I import into Blender, Zbrush and Maverick Studio, the character is in T-pose, which is not what I want. Do you know how to export COLLADA with a pose from DAZ?

    Thank you Jay for making this video. It is extremely helpful for understanding fundamental scaling between the two programs. Would you please consider making a video that addresses accurate shader and material transfers between these two programs?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind words, Kurt! I'd love to do a video on how to reproduce Blender shaders in DAZ Studio and vice versa, if only I knew how to do it :-) The rendering engines couldn't be more different. There has been some automation in the last version of Blender though that may help, so if you load a model exported as OBJ from DAZ into Blender, you'll see a moderately complex Cycles shader reproduced there. It's a good start. If ever I find out how to do it properly, I'll make a video about it for sure!

      Also I have a request... I would love to see a tutorial on how to make new morphs to clothes? I'd like to be able to make movement morphs on the clothing mesh, like bending and lifting a cape or mantle etc. I was thinking that it could be done by rigging a piece of cloth with bones or maybe do something in blender. Sometimes movement morphs are already included in the product but I'd like to learn to do it myself. Do you know how to do something like that or perhaps have an idea on where to find info on this?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, that is a good topic. I’ll see what I do. The easiest thing to get going would be to export the posed version of the character and clothing, then adjust the clothing in Blender, then bring that change back as a morph. Additional rigging might be difficult, I’m not sure if it can be changed once setup (or at least I don’t know how).

    I have a problem where when i import the file to daz i dont keep the textures i had on the blender model

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that happens when you import the OBJ directly. I guess it's because the surface properties in Blender are very different from the ones in DAZ Studio (i.e. the shaders are not compatible). As a workaround, export your geometry from Blender as OBJ file, then apply your changes as a Morph in DAZ Studio, using Morph Loader (under Edit - Object - Morph Loader Pro or Advanced).

  • @pontifex1853
    @pontifex1853 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about with textures?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you export as OBJ, the diffuse texture will come across. Any other surface properties need to be setup in Blender, because the render engines are different. There’s a free tool called Teleblender that attempts to translate the materials for you.

    when you import the character back to daz, will it still be poseable or will it just be a solid object and i would have to make a skeleton over again?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A straight import will result in a static (unposeable) object. However, if you apply the object as a Morph (using Morph Loader), all rigging and surface information is retained and the DAZ object is not changed. That way you only give additional deformation information. This creates a Morph with the changes from Blender. Best of both worlds.
