Danish person here! 👋🏼🇩🇰 I love that you're spreading the message of "hygge". I think it's our way to cope with the cold and darkness.😅 That special feeling (hyggelig) can be felt at an event with people you love or simply when reading a book under a blanket by yourself in candlelight. The fact that we have a name for that very feeling I think makes us more aware and appreciative of the small things (also according to a friend who is an anthropologist and linguist) *edit: Thank you so much (mange tak) for the like, Blondie! ❤️
it's funny that Northern German has a very similar but apparently unrelated word: muggelig (or muckelig) -- the feeling of being tucked in a warm blanket
The Chinese equivalent of this hyggy term in "Dongbeinese" is Mao Dong (猫冬,猫as in躲猫猫,or hide;冬,as in 冬天,winter)literally translates to "hide during winter". It is done by staying inside as much as possible, avoid going out at all... while keeping toasty warm on the heated bed of rural Dongbei 火炕😀 You can try a traditional Dongbei food place with the heated bed, the Dongbei food is perfect for the winter time ❄️
I own an EV - BYD ATTO 3. It's perfectly safe to be inside the car whilst it is charging. In SG, we even switch on the aircon (lowest fan) and enjoy a movie on the "big" 15.6" screen infotainment unit. In SG, it can be very hot or wet, so sometimes, it is best to be inside the car!
Electric vehicles consume power very quickly at -10℃, and their range will be greatly reduced. This is also the reason why electric vehicles are not popular in northern China.
The largest power battery manufacturer in Europe, Northvolt, has just gone bankrupt, delivering a massive blow to Europe’s ambitions to challenge China’s dominance in the EV battery market, particularly affecting German automakers like BMW and VW.
@@daylight7257 Interestingly, Norway has the highest EV market share per capita in the world. In November 2024, over 10,000 EVs were newly registered in Norway, accounting for an impressive 93.6% of all new car registrations.
ok, what i absolutely love about TB is the camera function, where i can point at your poop candle and that listing will show up on TB allowing me to purchase it immediately.
The clips of the winter in Changchun reminds me of my childhood time spent in 哈尔滨,the brutal cold outside makes the indoor warmth more appreciated. Perfect time for a cup of hot coco drink.
You and Derk have such a nice apartment. Oddly enough, we're getting socked with a snowstorm in the next 8-12 hours and that rarely happens where I live. Time to get the flannelette sheets out and the humidifier on. Brrr, I'm already under the electric blanket. Loved the toilet candle 😂
Oh that’s interesting that hygge lighting specifically mentions flickering lights. I’ve never really paid much attention to electric candles, but I got some for Halloween decorations this year. After October was over, I started keeping one of the big electric candles in my room on a whim. At first I thought it would just give a fun vibe, but it’s actually been quite comforting! It’s really nice to have it on when I go to sleep ☺️ And not risk burn the house down with a normal candle lol. The Nordic people have been on to something!
I don’t know if china has cinnamon incense, but it’s soooooo lovely 😍 I first got it during my study abroad in Bhutan, so it absolutely transports me back there every time I smell it lol I’m guessing, but I think it was made with “true” cinnamon rather than cassia. I’ve heard cassia is the most common cinnamon in China, so Chinese cinnamon incense might be a bit different But I still recommend to try it if you find it! It smells kind of like snickerdoodle cookies baking, plus a little peppery note, combined with that musky herbal profile more common in temple incense
Australian who moved to Denmark a few years ago here ... Hygge is mainly held up by Christmas themed things and alcohol Lol also i think weather in China is probably even more harsh
I love how happy and excited you are opening your “presents”! I’ve seen these socks before and wanted to get for my daughters but my teenager stared at me and said it’s so lame 😅 It’s super cute though! What beautiful additions are these to your lovely home. Both of you are so cute together! Love the turkey surprise! And I can’t believe it’s 4-5 months of winter for you?! That’s a long time.
Noooo with the heating on, you are supposed to wear t shirt indoors and eat ice cream. Sometimes you might have to open the window since it’s too hot. And for me personally, the best snacks are tanghulu, roasted chestnut and sweet potatoes. Oh I miss my hometown 😢
14:28, its the CAST IRON POT that gives that sweet potato that taste/texture. Just any other utensil in the oven doesn't do the trick whereas cast iron utensils does.
Iowa USA is very cold. And dark. I find using warm lights like flameless warm candles helps. Also smart plugs that turn the lights on before you get home. Use warm LEDs. it also helps seasonal depression. Also heated blankets.
Just realized due to Australia being in the other hemisphere you’ve switched from summertime Christmas to snow falling winter Christmas time in the northern hemisphere being the norm for you. Wow, I bet it felt odd those first few winters in China!
Wow, that's cold. I'm already complaining here in Holland when it's 5 degree, rainy and windy. What are the cost of electricity and maybe also for the gas/central heating with hotwater (yeah, here in NL we have stadsverwarming), there in your city? Well as you know it's expensive here, also in Germany.
So related when seeing the sweet potato burned your pipe. But I think that is the reason we eat hot sweet potatoes Love the table top fire and puffy teapot.
I believe the door handle thingy is for the front door to your apartment so that you don't freeze your hand when you open the door. you've got heating inside the apartment so you don't really need it indoors. 🤣
Omg, watching you two having to charge your car while waiting outside was insane. Very fun video, a red light treatment lamp would be a great addition to staying warm and getting those mitochondria moving. Stay warm!
I highly recommend reading/listening to Meik Wiking's book "The Little Book of Hygge". I listened to it and it was so enjoyable. Plus, reading is SO hygge!
Loved this video! I love the concept of Hygge & have been eyeing a book by Danielle Kristiansen called “Hygge: The Secrets of the Hygge art towards a Stress-Free & Happier Life.”
I cannot believe I was in the same city as you yesterday randomly! From a guy in Jersey with all your merch who randomly decided to visit Xiamen last week. Would’ve been amazing to get your signature on my hat/shirts!!!! Ahhhhh 😮😮😮😮😮😮
you won't believe the shock I woke up to your notification, as a Dane, seeing "Hygge" in the video notification ❤🎉 edit: lot of fun stuff, the ceramic pillow is cool and tea is definitely a part of hygge - hope you get to enjoy all of those things to their full potential
errr.... my Canadian friends, whenever I go back to China, they will give me all this links from taobao ask me to buy for them... most of the items just like Amy showed in there...gave me headaches. lol

I'm a Norwegian/Newfie descendant & the cold winters are a bite-in-the butt here in Canada with so much of the gray days.
it's funny that Northern German has a very similar but apparently unrelated word: muggelig (or muckelig) -- the feeling of being tucked in a warm blanket
This video is resonating with people born in cold places all over the world LOL I love it
Amy and dirk are seriously PERFECT for each other, those quirky random things you share!!
Such a delightful video with cuteness and corniness! Here’s to cozy winter days in this home.😊
I cannot believe you didn't get a onesie preferably with animal ears on the hood. That's peak comfort.
Omg yes! One of the reasons I look forward to winter so much. 😊
Oooh good idea!
@@BlondieinChina Make sure to get matching ones for Dirk and your baby. You will absolutely farm on socials.
Or an oodie, soooo warm

猫冬 literally translates to "Cat during winter". Cat means hide. Think of cat as a verb. How cute is that
That's a perfect term for it. Homes with keng, basements filled with dabaicai... i miss Donbei winters.

My mother in law is dongbei and she always makes a sauerkraut pork rib dish, and it's so delicious! Dongbei food is one of my favourites! 😊
its so incredibly funny, that Derk is casually talking German to you

In China, E-shopping is top of the earth~
Once I found out Hongkong enjoyed free shipping from Taobao and PDD….i just can’t stop shopping 😂😂😂

The door handle thing is so good because I get static shocked by metals in the winter SO MUCH.
I love watching people open packages for some reason
These items are so fun! The puffy quilted tea cup and pot, the croissant,The turkey😂
crazy how the climate in different parts of a country cause be so different!
The third biggest country in the world is for a reason.
Amy would be a fun mom (still wishing her all the best)! I could see both she and her dad giving the most amusing gifts to any children of hers! 😊
This was really funny and cute, Amy! The sponge bed, 😂that sweet potato pot is amazing!
Amy, you and Derk are so cute together. Thanks for sharing the laughs with us!
of course it’s safe to be inside while it charges
Omg. The toilet candle just cracks me up😂

Love your house❤is so cosy and comfy. Lovely couple

Hi Amy! I really appreciate the subtitles but I do think the mandarin one sometimes have weird translations.
Really enjoy watching this! Love how you try local foods all the time and appreciating it. People in my country(Burma)😊 love Chinese food too!
Those stews look yummy🤤. Your socks and shoes would be a big hit with my 2 daughters. They live for that stuff 😂

Shit on fire🔥🔥🔥 OMG!🤣 and Drek's reaction for that 🥐 door handle is really funny😂😂😂

I like the pot you used for the sweet potato, where you get it please?
so so cute couple and video. I love your apartment aswell !
Funny how you showed getting the hygge pronunciation from a friend in q crowded restaurant, then youtube... But not rosetta stone 🤔
