    Sorry for your loss - funerals aren't easy in these difficult times. I'm delighted to see you starting on another micro layout. I agree with you, I like round and round layouts - one day I'll have a go at a double sided one.

    Please accept my condolences Mike, like you I have lost people dear to me this year.
    So here we go again, an object lesson in how to run 00 gauge in ludicrously small spaces. This gives a whole new way of modelling I love it. Thanks to you guys I'm half way through a 5 x 2 foot industrial with passenger layout. I'm like a kid again! I'm 65 for goodness sake. I am looking forward to watching this one develop. Keep safe.

    Sorry to hear about your Mother in law and Mother. I am pleased to see another Micro layout in the making! :-) You may be pleased to know that the two layouts I purchased from yourself earlier in the year are both going very well. I spent this morning working on the larger one, now called 'Spring Bank'. I am really enjoying the hobby again, thanks to you giving me the encouragement and the two layouts to work on! :-) It's a great hobby, and as you say, it's a brilliant distraction from the unpleasant things going on in life at the moment! Well done, and keep up the excellent work and videos! :-D I really enjoy watching each new one you make!

    Steel track gets a bad rap but I have been using it for 20 years on my layout and I have to say needs less cleaning the nickle silver track and you can use an abrasive to clean it up and there is no issue at all. This includes a sizable amount of Triang Super4 track that is around 60 years old and as good a the day it was made. I live in the West of Ireland and climate here very humid and so with a regular spray of WD40 - our mutual friend - and running the trains regular there is no further issues with corrosion. I love the way this channel tackles the orthodoxy of the hobby. There is too much institutionalization that needs debunking. Well done and great micro layout.

    So sorry to hear about your Mums!! 😥 Blessings to all of You Dears from across the pond in Texas USA. ❤
    Your videos are therapeutic to me as I work-out how I want to do my own layout. (So many exhausting things here: carer for my spouse, new 2nd career and grad school). I'm too old for all this, BUT your videos are relaxing and encouraging. As much as I like shunting, I too find watching a small train on a small loop amazingly satisfying (I've a lovely imagination) 😌💜

    Simple and efficient. I have a similar idea for a run-round-laid-on-the-floor layout. The public office where I work have dozens of old calendars going to the bin every year, I will recover them, cut and glue them to make right size elements where I can put some tracks on, and have a running session in my small lounge in five minutes. You gave me the idea, thanks for it !

    Once again, you’ve eliminated any excuse I’ve had against building a small roundy layout. I have a 2’ x 4’ baseboard down in the shop from a former N scale layout. I could easily put together a similar HO or OO layout. I will follow with interest your method of creating tight curves with flex track. My sincere condolences in the passing of your mother-in-law and your mother’s health issues. My wife and I have been there with all four of our parents. Prayers and best wishes as you navigate this challenging season of life.

I answered a question on a forum about people stressing out about baseboards,apparently you can only use 12mm ply and 3x1 battens for strengthening ;) There you have the back of an old wardrobe,and my baseboards are made from flooring i saved from a bonfire.Stay safe and happy Mike and Doug.

    Very much enjoying your channel here. I'm in the throes of building a pretty good sized M shaped layout and have tried to be budget minded as much as possible. My local hobby shop owner is great at giving advice on such matters and has helped with many ideas. I especially enjoyed the video you made on Just Build IT, paraphrasing of course. That's been my problem all along.......fretting on how to do something and not making a mistake, so it gets put off, sometimes for very long periods. I tend to see the entire layout as a huge time consuming task and not as a whole lot of small bites....the old elephant eating phrase. My hobby shop friend has tried telling me to just get started and the ideas will come as I make progress. :-) Anyway, this video is great as I've been thinking about making something similar for my two grandchildren who live with us and who are crazy about trains. I want to keep their enthusiasm up without playing with grandpa's trains. :-) This video looks to be just the ticket. My only substitute so far would be using extruded styrofoam.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad we could help. Foam is a good substitute, I think keep it simple, just build it and have fun is the best advice. The hobby is obsessed with perfection at any price, which I believe puts people off. Thanks for watching and commenting

    Hiya, I'm looking to make a model railway with these exact proportions, being new to the world of model railways means I have a LOT of these 0-4-0 tanks. These videos will be great help for me and I'm going to watch the whole series. I'm getting the baseboard for it and some track. What radius curve are you using? I could use it myself as I was thinking of getting 1st radius.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's way smaller than 1st radius at 10in radius, 1st radius is 15in. Go for 1st radius if you have the room as it will allow you a much larger range of locos and rolling stock.

    Hi there, really enjoyed watching this. My sons are both keen on model trains. I don’t have the time or space to build a big layout (we ended up taking down the baseboards we made a start on due to size) . This sort of thing could be picked up and slid under a bed. Please could I ask how much flexi track do you need to make one this size? I’ve a quarry/rural layout in mind.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 'overhang' was the reason given by Hornby for designing their mk3 short coach back in 1977 as many of their accessories had set spacing away from the track and a scale mk3 would have fouled these... genius idea .... maybe not, but I guess its worth considering if a monster scale length 75ft coach for smaller layouts, but I'm gonna hazard a guess that even these wouldn't get around this micro layout. Love the weatherboarding upon the re-purposed bungalow come station building, gives it an air of the Lynton & Barnstable which is no bad thing. Have you done budget 009 yet, now that would really suit a micro layout.

      Possibly not, as not all 0-6-0s will, but the older Lima and Hornby bo bo are ok

    You’ve got the track pinned down here, and in the updates there’s ballast mat underneath how did you do that?

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use track screws so it was easy to lift the track, cut ballast mat to shape and relay the track

      @@BudgetModelRailwaysaha! I had a job on lining up the flex track, so I'll lift it in stages and slide it under.
      I couldn't wait to watch a train go round, am trying to take my time.

    I have a challenge for you!! A model layout that can hold 22 yes 22 trains. Are you up for it ? 😃

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why 22? If you mean 22 trains not locos, then I simply would not have the room and I doubt anyone outside the US would. Doesn't sound very Budget

      I thought I’d deleted that message, bugger. Was looking for a way to have 22 locos on a layout, but have now almost worked out how to do it: Your right it’s not budget and it was inappropriate to put this on this page after your loss: As I said I thought I’d deleted it:

      No worries, it is an interesting concept, I could certainly do with being able to store more locos in a fiddle yard, but have no room

      @@BudgetModelRailways I have 22 engines. And was racking my brain how I could fit them onto board. Then you came to mind because you can fit so much into small spaces: So went to your site typed all in and then saw you had not long lost your Dad. So back spaced everything but somehow it went through: Anyway really enjoy your Chanel learned a great deal from you and appreciate it very much. All the best

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be possible to make a multi yard fiddle area especially if you have them as single entries rather than loops. I have a weakness for locomotives so could never fit them all on a layout lol

    My sympathy for current events.Maybe you should read John Cleese's book, 'Families and how to survive them'. I always wondered why you didn't turn the back of 'Market Road' into another layout. Now's your opportunity.
