Compared to Tokyo and Chinese cities you’ve stated, not only is NYC one of the top global centers for business, finance, politics, fashion, art, and culture, it is filled with diversity and people from all over the world, hence why it is often considered The World’s Capital.

Tokyo’s foreign population is under 4% while NYC is over 37%. NYC is referred to as the financial capital of the world because it is the home of the New York Stock Exchange. It is home to the United Nations. There are many things Tokyo does that is better than NYC but it is far from being a more global city than NYC. It’s not about how great the metro is, by that definition almost any city in China is as global as Tokyo.

I was disappointed that I could not climb to the crown as it was being renovated. I remember there being boards and tools everywhere blocking the stairs. Years later, ahhh, it was done and I climbed up to the walkway around the crownand enjoyed the view of where the Atlantic Ocean and the East River met. Being able to see the muddy green of the East River meet the blue of the Atlantic Ocean made quite an impression on this 18 year old.
