Very creative! Thank you!. For those people yelling that epoxy resin is not food safe... I make tumblers that are covered with epoxy. There are different types of epoxy - just make sure (for anything that will touch food or your mouth) that the brand has marking that is FDA compliant and No VOC's. You can add any type of paint in the bottom layers just put top layer as pure epoxy and you're fine. There's also edible paint, mica powder etc... oh, and fumes are bad only while the mixing (starts chemical reaction). Once it's cured- it's safe to use. Thanks, again for an ispirational video!
@@diylilyardor3435 You're welcome! I think what does it is your careful attention to layering and depth. Most people just do one layer with details that go all the way through the piece (which still looks cool, it just doesn't completely sell the stone effect.) Especially cool that you managed to do the same thing in one cure with the amethyst example.
Silicone caulking will stick a silicone matt. Not the end of the world if the caulking mould is solid enough to be reusable. Parchment paper (aka baking paper in some countries) might be a better alternative or acetate sheets
Resin coasters are very popular, but they make poor coasters because they are not absorbent in any way! If you have a glass which has condensation, it will just pool on the resin and make a mess.
I've never worked with resin but I just watched this whole thing, lol! Can't wait to try it out! I love Agate and I love cheese. This is perfect for me. 😊
Wow I had no idea that its so doable, I always wanted to make one but didn't know how. Thank you so much for this tutorial, you're really talented and.
I bought a couple of these from Anthropologie and have been wondering how to make them myself!! Your end results are gorgeous! My mind was blown when I saw that you made the mold with silicone!
Thank you so much! LOL You and me both. I saw them at Anthropologie too. Was totally inspired by them but ,dang they cost so much. OH yes love the silicone trick and how easy it is to customize it. :D
Wooooowwww these are stunning! Clicked the thumbnail because I was like how the heck did she make these? Watching your tutorial it looks totally doable. Thanks!!!
You could also make your drill holes in the resin after letting it cure for about 20-24 hours. At that stage the resin will be quite firm but soft enough to drill through without cracking.
Be very careful of resin fumes please! Make sure to do it in a well vented place and wear a mask! There’s lots of videos of people not realizing that resin fumes are so toxic and becoming very ill! Love you thank you for your work and creativity! 💛
You're so welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful :D . I didn't seal them. I gifted them to a close friend for decor purposes so sealing wasn't required but, I would definitely recommend it if you plan on using it more.
Yes you can.. just make sure the resin that you are using, is food safe. Although most of them are, some aren't (make sure before purchase, that it is food safe). Art resin is good but not for hot drinks.. if you want it for food and hot drinks, I recommend countertop resin. It is food safe and heat resistant (once dry, of course).
hi! how long did you wait between mixing the resin and making the lines! and after doing the lines, how long did you wait to pour the white resin! I've tried this technique at least 3 times, and my lines desapeared as soon as i poor another color
it can be anywhere between 40 minutes and 3 hours. I know it Sounds like a large space in time but it really depends on how the resin reacts with the paint you add. If the paint doesn't affect the resin much it can take much much longer. The lines need to be tacky enough not to mix in with the fresh resin.
Very cool!!! Although the embossing powered wont last very long. Its washed off all my coaster I made. With the first wash. I had to use a highly pigmented acrylic paint and then spray over with triple thick. Not food safe. I used mine for jewelry and displaying my perfumes
I was thinking- maybe pour out some resin, lightly roll the edges of the coaster in the shallow resin, and let that set? So the embossment will be covered by the food safe resin. I haven't worked with resin before though so I'm not sure if that would work.
I have watched this video over and over again, wrote down step by step what you do. I am using the exact same products as you and I have to say the silicone does NOT come off like you show it to. Are you doing something that you are not showing? I have tried 4x to do this and same result every time. Any suggestions?
Pretty amazing! I have been meaning to do find an alternative ever since I saw the cheese board that was close to $500 by ANNA (used to be Rab Labs)!!!! So chic but not at that price....this is totally doable and hopefully I can make it BIG! Thanks for the idea!!!! xo
thank you : ) OMG $500 That's crazy! That's a high price to pay for some boards. Gosh :( Oooh if you try making them bigger let me know how it goes! Can't wait to hear back. 😊
Resin leaches vapors for two weeks as it cures and food safe means for incidental contact only. You should never cut on the cutting board. Best to only resin the handle where the food will not touch.
ArtResin is safe 72 hours afterwards. This resin does not take 2 weeks to fully cure, only 3 full days. ArtResin is used for cutting boards, as shown on their website.
Really love the creativity, I'm new to the resin creations and I'm excited to start. Just quick question... If I can use any acrylic paint to add colour, would I need liquid ink?
YAY! so happy to hear 🤗! Sorry about the late response 😐🙈. No you don't have to use liquid ink. In fact I tried liquid acrylic and didn't like it as much as the thicker more pigmented paint. It's almost like it's too watery and doesn't blend well with resin.
You really should not use acrylic paint in resin. Acrylic paint is water based and resin does not do well with water, oil or silicone. This is a quick Google search which you can read about the chemical reactions and how it can affect the way it cures. Not to say you can get away with it, but you have to be very careful. Not only the curing can go wrong but the fumes it can create can become very bad for your health. This is exactly why they there are pigments in different textures made specifically for resin. Believe me I learned the hard way and I barely used any acrylic and had a very large piece that required a lot of resin and it did not come out correctly because I added a water based product in it, acrylic. 😕
We tried breaking resin the other day and had to hit it super hard with a hammer to put a dent in it. That said it does scratch pretty easy. Not cutting board material.
I use these boards very lightly. You're right the embossing isn't super duper durable. This was my first time working with it. I do think gold leaf is way more durable. So far with light use it's not bad at all. Sealing with clear resin would help I'm sure but, honestly If I was to do it again I'd prob do gold leaf and seal the gold leaf instead.
Those are absolutley Gorgeous! I think I've found something to do with the acrylic paint I've got sitting around. Did you end up using the whole 16 oz bottle for the project or did you have left over???
Thank you. YEs this would be perfect to use with acrylic paint. No I had some of the resin left after making these two boards. Maybe enough for a small one.
Please ⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ When using this product use protective gloves and respiratory mask and work on a ventilated area. As this can damage your lungs. My husband had a friend who died after using this materials for a while and never use protective gear. Thank you for your attention.
Does anyone know when using this as a cheese board I know its more for decoration than practicality but is it still ok to cut cheese/grapes on or would the knife marks really dent into the resin? I mean I wouldn't use it as a chopping board obviously but if I served cheese on it and people were cutting slices would it ruin/show in the resin? Thank you!
Hi Hellen, I personally wouldn't use is to cut anything on. I would simply use it to display already cut cheese. Just be sure to have a clear layer of resin over colored resin and fully let it cure before using for food contact. I know there's a lot of controversy over whether this art resin is safe for food contact. From what it says on their website it seems to be food safe. I'm not an expert but, the only thing I'm thinking when cutting on it is maybe pieces of resin being chipped off. The idea of that is a bit iffy to me. You can also just have these as coasters :) or cute for decor on a shelf.
Apply a clear layer of resin. After your agate has cured Prop it up on something make sure its level. Mix some resin (don't add any colorant) and pour it over the agate. I think about 4oz total should be enough for a 4-6 inch agate.

Thank you Jo Jo :D
This is gorgeous! I want to make one that is several feet long to use as a sculpture only. I wonder if it would be strong enough at that length.
You can use a feather to create the lines it creates much less risk of ripping the plastic, these turned out beautiful

Can i attach handles to the tray? In the resin while still setting!
I would put a couple dots of silicone in your mold where you want the handles to go so that when it hardens the holes are ready
Thank you 🙏yes will definitely try
If you drill slowly you could drill some screw holes. Just be very slow and careful.
Shayla Fitch thank you dear 😊

once fully cured it should be fine, but always check the labels of your resin to be sure :)

Wow love it! but i'm still confused.. What's the difference between resin with UV light and without UV light? 🤔
Good question! UV resin needs a UV lamp to cure. This resin that I used gets activated to cure by combining two liquids together.

Make sure the silicone is 100% silicone anything less will be difficult to remove but I've used 100% silicone and it comes off very easily
Did you use the exact brand silicone? I've used different brands work different. Some more expensive silicones stick better and are harder to remove.
