Nobody: how can make thermostats more complex? Engineers: we know how to do it. 1970’s disconnect the top radiator hose and replace the thermostat. 2000’s disassemble the whole top of the engine. Remove the bottom of the engine shrouds. Then you can access the thermostat.
Yep, it's a racket all manufactures and dealers have going now. Gotta keep those mechanics feeding their families, so put those common replacement items where dad can't get to them anymore.
They missed some key info. First, book off a day from work if you're not doing this on the weekend. There's the big metal plate underneath you need to remove if you want access to the bottom shroud. Spray penetrating oil liberally on everything well in advance, just pull the battery right out for better access, and the serpentine belt needs to go. While half the engine bay has been decluttered, you might as well clean the throttle body, the MAF sensor, check your spark plugs, the power steering lines, AC lines, the plastic clips going to the heater core and the alternator because it's such a tight space and way more frustrating than Haynes makes it look
Hey great video! When replacing the gasket for the thermostat, is it advisable to add high temperature gasket silicone to the basket before screwing in the thermostat?
I literally can’t see which side of the engine the thermostat is on. You jump from removing fan cover, to disconnecting the hoses, without showing the location.
Super easy, had no problem getting to the thermostat. Only took a couple of hours.
Ah! Pull the hood release lever. That’s where I was going wrong.
good nice answer
@@115Astro lmao
What do you gain by turning the ignition on and having the heat turned to hot if the battery is already disconnected?
Yes, turning up heater should be first step.

Does anyone have a recommendation on what brand of thermostat to buy?
I usually go to Autozone and they will list options and pricing for each once you give them the make, model and year.
Awesome!! Love Haynes...Love the Pathfinder!! J. Scott
Awesome job description 👏
Is the thermostat in the same place on the 2015 Pathfinders?
Brilliant teaching vid.... Brilliant!
Hey great video!

Can y'all please do one on the correct way to change the thermostat on a 2015 V6 Nissan Pathfinder
I literally can’t see which side of the engine the thermostat is on. You jump from removing fan cover, to disconnecting the hoses, without showing the location.
It’s behind the fan, facing the engine it would be between two and three o’clock. It’s easier to remove the fan.
Anyone know where the thermostat located on 2016 nissan pathfinder?
What happens if I remove the thermostat entirely?
What engine is this
A Nissan engine
Haha, yes a Nissan engine of course 😂. But to answer the question it's a VQ40DE
Why wouldn't this work on 2015+ Frontiers? Isn't it exactly the same engine as 2014?
Same 4.0L, should be the same procedure.
What year is this pathfinder?
2005 - 2007
My 09 pathfinder has same motor I followed torque spec w no leaks
I though this was a do it yourself video to many steps i hate Nissans
I agree and that's why I've been a Toyota man since '77.
Omfg all of these bullshit steps just to replace a thermostat is beyond stupid and pointless
