In Indian classical music, Carnatic flute (South Indian, thicker, bamboo notably from Kerala state south) is known as Venu/Pullanguzhal/Kolalu, and the Hindustani flute (North Indian) as Bansuri made of notably Assamese (northern eastern state) bamboo. The word bansuri originated from Baans (bamboo) and Sur (musical note) depending on the pitch, it varies in its size. This is the distinction between them in vocabulary. This is simply because the Indian Civilization is ancient (one of the 4 ancient civilizations of the world). The instruments gradually developed and gained complexity over time. No western instrument is even close to that level of intricacy. Check out other Indian musical instruments like the Sitar, Veena, Santoor, Shehnai, Jal Tarang, Mridangam and hundreds more. That flute is called Bansuri (pronounced BAA(n)-SURI, the 'n-sound' is nasal), and it is a very celebrated instrument in Hindustani classical music. I am a trained Bansuri player. The traditional Bansuri is made from bamboo. Lord Krishna, a Hindu God is considered to be the best Bansuri player who ever walked the earth. Bansuri has an important place in Krishna iconography along with a peacock feather. Its importance grows from there. I think you would be fascinated by Bansuri as much as you are with Tabla. I think u missed the significance that it is played with the "cuticle of the left hand". Its played using the cuticles of the nails - that's extremely painful. If u remember the Amit Trivedi - Choudhary video, this same gentleman had played the sarangi at an extremely fast pace - meaning the cuticles were running so quickly "under" the strings.
Fun (and scary) fact of the sarangi, the stringed instrument, is that it is played with the cuticles rubbing against the string rather than the tip of the fingers. Painful af! 👁️

Flute i=was most likely invented in India. According to historians three can b birthplaces of flutes Egypt, Greece, and India. But the reason why India could b the birthplace are : 1) Of these, the transverse flute (side blown) appeared only in ancient India, while the fipple flutes are found in all three. 2) India controlled all trading routes & was largest exporter. SO most it travelled from India to these places 3) India have ancient texts on music unlike other two
The tablas have that effect because sometimes they have small coins inside them that reverberates when hit and add a fade out effect to the tabla, which explains the melodic aspect of tabla
flute is made up of bamboo. Typically to scales A,B,C,D, etc. they have scales A#,B# and so on. Different flute for different scales. they have 6 holes for resting your finger. Forming the 6 notes and the 7th one is obvious with all closed. Flutes are drilled and the septum in bamboo is removed. There are different lengths. you can find from 6 inches to 28 inches. Smaller ones are used by kids. I have a 12 -15 inch one G#.

Three tablas can cover one octave. The virtue of tabla is the ability to tune it to pitch. The flute is a bamboo flute identified with lord Krishna! Different pitch rated bamboo flutes are available. Th3 string instrument is a North Indian Sarangi that is played like violin. It is a ‘sad’ instrument by its tonal quality!
I don't know if this is really the most popular. I think Requiem for a Dream has more of the wow factor. My personal favourite TIJP videos are the ones for Inception, Titanic and Interstellar. I also like the Star Wars and the Dark Knight ones.
You are actually right...the guy's fingers are not actually "on" the strings because he is playing with his cuticles (part where the nail meets the skin).. it sound and look painful..but practice makes it okay..
The use and influence of the instrument flute (Bansuri) has been recorded in history since the existence of Lord Krishna (God Vishnu's incarnation). By timeline it means thousands of years. Basically it's an Indian invention and then later the West and East used it and made their own versions as well.

Tabla is one of the best percussion instruments, however if you listen to it carefully, you can make a complete range of musical notes with just tabla, which I believe is not quite possible with any other percussive instruments. If you wanna check out tablas range, listen to the Maestro of Indian Classical Tabla. Just check out Ustaad Zakir Hussain. You hv done only one reaction of him. However there are plenty. The sarangi in their “‘Indian Jam Project” dark knight piece is fabulous, if and when you get around to it. And a small vocal section as well is good.
Tablas are definitely tuned. C, C#, D is often used tuning the Tabla. You can tune it to any note though

You are actually right...the guy's fingers are not actually "on" the strings because he is playing with his cuticles (part where the nail meets the skin).. it sound and look painful..but practice makes it okay..

The use and influence of the instrument flute (Bansuri) has been recorded in history since the existence of Lord Krishna (God Vishnu's incarnation). By timeline it means thousands of years. Basically it's an Indian invention and then later the West and East used it and made their own versions as well.
Check out another Artist "Mahesh Raghavan". He is mainly doing carnatic fusions. ( carnatic + electronic music).

Tabla is one of the best percussion instruments, however if you listen to it carefully, you can make a complete range of musical notes with just tabla, which I believe is not quite possible with any other percussive instruments. If you wanna check out tablas range, listen to the Maestro of Indian Classical Tabla. Just check out Ustaad Zakir Hussain. You hv done only one reaction of him. However there are plenty. Check out a few Jugalbandi.
