Sir John Hawkwood, his statue stands in Florence today, the only Englishman with a statue in Florence. I love the story of him passing the Franciscan friars who seen him on horse and said, Peace be amongst you, and he said And may you get no alms, and when asked why he had retorted this he said Peace will ruin me I make my living by war.

Another way to look at it is to say that Armour evolved specifically because of the introduction of ballistics. The "men in shinning armour" are still here. They are called professional soldiers. Instead of wearing Breastplates, they wear NIJ Level 4 Body Armour, if they are lucky and the Government can supply it. The armour didn't disappear. It simply evolved to keep up with the times. Besides which, Armour was redundant a long time before the advent of Gunpowder. A crossbow bolt was powerful enough to puncture breastplates. How do you think Richard 1st died? A Crossbow bolt killed him, and he was in full armour.

They have totally skipped over the people who gave Europe it's renaissance and civilization, the Moors and Saracens.

The Moors were mostly savage killers later relegated to the cold central plains of Andalusia. Europe had advanced civilization and such a view is an exaggeration. The fall of Constantinople led to a great sale of knowledge and fueled the Renaissance. So much was learned from the Arabs - Indian number system, the works of the Greeks, Romans and Persians, astronomy, architecture, Indian metallurgy, medicine, exotic fruit and spices...and on.

@nicholaswestley9851 there were no classical Greek philosophers, those teachings came from the school of Ma'at of Ancient Egypt

@nicholaswestley9851 is wisdom true? Then wisdom is Ma'at because Ma'at is Truth, truth is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. All knowledge is Truth. How do you know you exist? Truth, truth is Consciousness of physical existence, oxygen consciousness. This is what the European could not grasp till today.

Condottieri were Italian captains in command of mercenary companies during the Middle Ages, and of multinational armies during the early modern period.
They notably served Popes and other European monarchs during the Italian Wars of the Renaissance and the European Wars of Religion.
Notable condottieri include Prospero Colonna, Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, Cesare Borgia, the Marquis of Pescara, Andrea Doria, and the Duke of Parma.
