I’m pretty sure once you’ve had a c-section it’s not recommended to have a home birth because there is a high chance of needing another c-section. So it’s smarter for her to have her in the hospital.

Not accurate at all. I had my 1 via c section and then have had 4 following as vaginal deliveries. You don’t have a high chance of having to have a c section just because you’ve had 1 previously

Gideon was a csection. Considering this delivery is a VBAC, and her first full term VBAC, it wouldn’t be very smart to attempt a home birth. Honestly thinking about it, more of their grandchildren have been hospital births.

    • @annabethlovesyou4091
      @annabethlovesyou4091 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes, most of their grandkids have been born in hospitals that’s where Mrs. Duggar had all her 19 kids. Even the ones who tried a home birth usually had to be transported during labor or after birth for some reason or another like Joy I can’t remember the last one to have a home birth. I don’t see home birth as a Duggar tradition.

A lot of people choose home birth too because of negative hospital experiences. Or a fear of not being respected as an autonomous being. Women deserve to have complete sovereignty over their body and should give birth wherever and however they want and be active participants in the decision making process should their first plan need to be modified.

So in an early episode of counting on they go on to explain after they take Johanna to a plastic surgeon for a cut on her face that they have insurance for life because Jim Bob was a state representative in Arkansas. In fact I kind of suspect that might be one of the reasons why he ran for that position. As for the kids I don’t know but I think one of the reasons that the quiver full movement encourages Home birth is because they think that the medical community is being hostile towards them when they say you know maybe don’t have a baby every year

I don’t know why anyone would refer to a home birth as a “Duggar tradition.” I haven’t heard that anyone has been shunned for using modern medicine. And personally, I don’t see chiropractic care as “holistic.” Whether you give birth in stirrups surrounded by medical staff, or in your tub at home, lower back and hip alignment helps.

Sounds like she's attempting a VBAC so being in hospital is a safer option. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I don't understand why homebirth is so frowned upon, I would have loved to be at home if I could have. Especially now with a pandemic, I would hate to be birthing in hospital. Midwives are necessary healthcare practitioners and we should be training more of them.

In my state, if you have a csection, you have to have at least 1 vbac. I started ott having a home birth with my first but needed intervention so went to hospital for C-section, 2nd I had a successful vbac at hospital, and I'm due with my 3rd any day and having a home birth ( hopefully). All with a certified nurse midwife. We are 10 minutes from the hospital and in her 40 years as a midwife has never lost a a mother or baby because of complications at home because she knows when intervention is needed

I find the term "natural childbirth" very offensive and misleading. Just because you give birth in a hospital and have an epidural or pain meds doesn't mean you're still not naturally giving birth. I wonder who came up with that term. It leads women to think there is something "unnatural" or wrong about giving birth with the help of modern medicine. And there is _nothing_ wrong with it. It also tends to encourage some women who gave birth without pain relief to wear it as some badge of honor. And some (not all) of these women act like they are better than women who have epidurals. You're not any better! You just decided to experience pain that isn't necessary. Good for you, but you aren't better or more noble than any other woman.
Have your baby in the way that is best for you and your child, but don't delude yourself into thinking that a painful childbirth with the _choice_ of no relief makes you better than any other woman. It really doesn't. Sorry.

    • @dmallow22

I tend to think of natural birth as a vaginal birth in that it's how nature created our bodies to deliver babies. There is nothing wrong with using meds, hospitals,or c section, etc. The fact is somehow people starting equating natural with better. Birth can have a "natural" course without meaning better it's just what naturally occurs it shouldn't be offensive but I can understand why people could think that. I try to now say vaginal or cesarean, medicated or unmedicated instead of using the term natural for this reason. But truly all natural means is the way God or Biology created it to be for thousand upon thounsands of years not better.

It seems that the Duggar girls are tending to go for Home Births whilst the daughter in laws are going for hospital births (except for Anna but she was the first Duggar-in-law so I’m not surprised if she’s more brainwashed than the rest or if it’s a bi-product of the time she married into the family, back when the Duggar’s were even stricter and all the girls had the same crunchy hair). Jinger went for a hospital birth but she’s far from Jim-Bobs sway. I do think that Jill and Jessa were encouraged by their parents to home birth (as shown by the fact that they laboured at home until they were literally forced to go to the hospital) and I think it must have something to do with frugalness. Michelle wouldn’t have gone for a hospital birth if she had a choice-they started to label her high risk somewhere around the tenth pregnancy

As far as the rest of them, they might have a Christian Mutual Aide type of health insurance, unless someone has a job that provides health insurance?
(I hadn't thought about it in years, but yeah Josie's months long stay in the NICU...I think she was born Dec 2009 but had been due Mar 2010... o.O...had to have cost JB & M a pretty penny back then, so no wonder they signed onto TLC to do 19 Kids.., as a regular show.)

I would not think that Joy would be allowed to have an epidural given that she had a C section last full-term delivery. There is usually a "trial by scar" period during labour where the scar from your C section is 'tested' to see if it will stand up to labour. An epidural would not alert the mother/medical staff to this happening whereas experiencing a big increase in pain would. At least that's how midwives do it in the UK.

The Bates girls seem to have hospital births with epidural and all(accept Alyssa).
Giedeon was a c section after an attempted home birth, Jinger had Felicity at the Hospital with an epidural. Jessa always home births and ends up being rushed to hospital due to bleeding !

I doubt that she was ‘ditching’ the ‘usual Duggar home birth plans” or just felt more comfortable doing a V-bac in a hospital. Since there is always a chance of the uterus tearing or rupturing during a V-bac, even in a hospital, it’s really good to be close to an operating room where they can do an emergent C Section if anything goes wrong.

It's always wild to me to see people get very attached to their birth plans even in the face of emergency. Out of all 5 of my kids only one went to plan it ranged the whole spectrum from no intervention, to changed the life of a training paramedic as I gave birth in the ambulance, all the way to almost died. They really need to learn to prioritize their ideal vision of what's happening versus their best option.

It's terrible when women are shamed for using safe and effective pain management during labor. I mean, if your baby was born and the doctor said it was having an issue and in lots of pain wouldn't you allow them to give your baby safe and effective medicine to help ease that pain if possible? People should do what they want but choosing an epidural does not in any way diminish the beautiful accomplishment of giving birth.

The reason it's such a big deal for Joy Anna and the girls to be having hospital births is it shows they are breaking away from their c*lt mentality. And they'll have to balance negotiations with the controlling parents to keep relations there. Bill Gothard and his material heavily pushed home birth and turned it into a morality/shame thing. Like you could suffer SERIOUS status loss in the hierarchy (IBLP) for not toeing the party line. So good for Joy Anna for working on breaking out, but I also feel for her and the stress she must be under with her parents...I see that look in her eyes, and I wish her all the best.

There is nothing wrong with natural healthcare like chiropractic or giving birth at home if you're not high risk. I respect the Duggars for at least trying. It's also pretty expensive to choose home birth if you have insurance. I was quoted $3000. I chose not too because I was 39, have very little tolerance for pain, and lived in an apartment at the time my son was born. I can't imagine an apartment home birth. I think it's the way to go if you can. I only wish I had seen the chiropractor more throughout my pregnancy.

At this time during the pandemic, I would probably opt for a home birth IF I could and everything was ok and I had a certified mid wife who was able to help me at home. Before the pandemic I would have never considered it but in my state, both people who I know who have had their babies were not allowed to even have their husbands with them immediately after the birth. It’s sad.

It called personal choice for many people. Obviously if they have a high risk pregnancy there is less choice.
I don't think the Duggar's are against hospital birth for most part, I just think home birth from what many say is alot more pleasant.

I love your Duggar updates! So I'm actually curious (I didn't watch 19 and counting) where the Duggar association with home birth came from? We know the majority of them have had hospital births including Michelle having at least some there so was there ever a statement by them to say they only believed in home birth or didn't believe in hospitals? I'm kinda confused about that... I def think Joy Anna will avoid an epidural if possible because she has tried a natural birth before, but since a few Duggar girls have done it maybe she'll be persuaded. I doubt she had an option given the fact that she had an emergency c section and late miscarriage prior. Also side note of my personal opinion I wouldn't really consider going to the chiropractor holistic but maybe that's just me. I feel like a lot of pregnant women go to be aligned and prepared. 🤷‍♀️ I personally don't have insurance but I've always wanted a home birth anyway and am not in any way religious like them. People are different and there's nothing wrong with a home birth or birth center or a hospital birth as long as you get to choose what's best for you and your baby.

I mean, with my daughter, they hit a nerve when they did my epidural. I had a chronic migraine for three months after. It seriously never fully went away, and I got brushed off for the entire three months. I also hated not being able to walk around before the labor got to be too severe. I ended up having a c-section, which... I actually recovered from devoid of pain meds. They gave me opiates, and I have a weird genetic abnormality where they don't alleviate pain at ALL and just get me high... And not a fun high. I hallucinated. I wouldn't take them after I got home. Absolutely no difference in pain, but I was definitely more clear minded. So I definitely wanted to avoid both with my son. Somehow, I managed to only labor for five and a half hours, and sleep through three hours of that. So by the time we got to the hospital, there wasn't TIME to get any pain relief. I had him an hour after getting there. They basically had time to get my name and tell me to push. Lol. I DEFINITELY don't fault someone for choosing pain meds. Labor SUCKS, and if you respond correctly to them, the meds are VERY relieving. Even speaking of practicality instead of comfort, they let you get some rest before pushing! But after the experiences with my daughter vs my son, if we have a third, I'm definitely going to try to go natural again. It sucks at the time, but I've found the recovery is much better for me. So I wouldn't say it's silly or virtue signaling or anything like that to go WITHOUT pain relief.

I found hospital births to be very uncomfortable, unpleasant and invasive. They don't let you do what you want to do. They make you lay on your back and strap monitors to you. I wanted to labor in the bathtub and they wouldn't let me. I opted to have my 4th child at home, but this freaked out my family so we found a birthing center and the experience was amazing. I wouldn't do it any other way.
The Duggars have so much experience giving birth that they don't necessarily need assistance. I'm not saying hospitals are bad. I recommend hospitals if you're inexperienced with birth.
