  • On the night of October 29th, 2023, Amtrak Regional 146, with ACS-64 616 and P42DC 92, performed its electric to diesel locomotive/engine swap on Track 14 at New Haven Union Station. Engine swaps in New Haven are usually performed on Tracks 1-4, but these tracks were out of service at the time due to catenary wire damage. Also unusual for this day's train was the deadhead diesel locomotive (P42DC 92), already in the consist from WAS, being used immediately for the trip from New Haven to Springfield.

Nice video. I like the cinematography with the dim lit and foggy atmosphere. The way the light is scattered gives me the illusion that the entire station and beyond is under a very tall canopy. Any idea why the train stopped a second time just after pulling out? (Brake test maybe?)

Thank you! And you are correct. The engineer was performing a running brake test.

Why did every northeast regional/Vermonter have a P42 trailing second today for some reason? I happened to see a northbound vermonter with a P42 trailing, just today i find out that literally every northbound northeast regional has a P42 trailing second💀💀

Maybe that’s easier. Less of a crash into for the passengers onboard already.
