Specs do not indicate the sound characteristics. The AS 2200 yields subtle but audible differences depending on the type and quality of the recordings. There is a joy of delight when subtle cues are heard which encourages listening to many recordings to see what else was missed due to familiarity. This is the joy of the audio hobby. It encourages more and happy listening experienced. BTW, the feet of the AS1200 are chrome painted cast iron and the AS2200 are chrome painted brass per the literature.
Proud owner of the lil' bro. Driven by a Fiio M11s. Driving a pair of Adam front firing studio monitors.(They are crisp & clear even when quiet) Goldcabel speaker cables, Audioquest Sydney RCA. Dynavox power filter, Audiocrast power cable. (This config is the same HiFi experiment, as our SABA music center was in '90: my ears was 11yrs old..) In my tiny room it is more than enough. I set the EQ: 'lowest third': 0 'middle': -1 'high': -2 dB (I had a Marantz PM6006 + Piega Classic 3.0 (back firing) configuration, it IS sweet @ their new home: a Large ROOM..)
Some folk just can't help themselves and feel the need to tell the world and its dog what gear they have. Like those folk on audio fora that list all their gear as their 'signature' on every post they make. Sad really.
This is a bit of a lazy video, it is supposed to be the differences between the two but all you are really showing is what is the same. Per Yamaha directly the AS2200 is way closer to the AS3200 than the AS1200. First off fully balanced topography is going to sound way better, not just a different type of connector in XLR. Second the preamp which is hugely important is way better in the AS2200 as it is comparable to the AS3200. Also even though these two use the same high quality transformer, the AS2200 uses much bigger capacitors which give more power on tap. There is also a better brass plate under the power supply giving it better noise suppression. The AS1200 and AS2200 will sound much different if you have speakers that are decent quality and are in the $1500+ range, if they are in the 5K range the differences between the two amps will be vast. Just for anyone out there considering a purchase.
At last, someone who understands sound and the individual human ear ! My own secret after wasting many years on silly purchases was to buy the Yamaha R-N1000A ( Can't buy separate Tuners anymore hence that purchase) And a decent set of speakers circa 1400 bucks. The consensus = Great crystal clear sound !

Thanks, don't need XLR !
The a-s2200 preamp section is way better than a-s1200´s. In fact, a-s2200 shares the preamp section with a-s3200.

@@warande65The remote offered on that 3k plus system is really off putting. It looks like the universal remote in the check out line in Walmart.
